2 Chroniques, 17

1. Josaphat, fils d'Asa, régna à sa place.

1. His son Jehoshaphat succeeded him as king and strengthened his hold against Israel.

2. Il se fortifia contre Israël : il mit des troupes dans toutes les villes fortes de Juda, et il mit des garnisons dans le pays de Juda et dans les villes d'Ephraïm dont Asa, son père, s'était emparé.

2. He placed armed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and put garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim which his father Asa had taken.

3. Yahweh fut avec Josaphat, parce qu'il marcha dans les premières voies du David, son père, et qu'il ne rechercha point les Baals;

3. The LORD was with Jehoshaphat, for he walked in the ways his father had pursued in the beginning, and he did not consult the Baals.

4. mais il rechercha le Dieu de son père et suivit ses commandements, sans imiter les actions d'Israël.

4. Rather, he sought the God of his father and observed his commands, and not the practices of Israel.

5. Yahweh affermit le royaume entre ses mains; tout Juda apportait des présents à Josaphat, et il eut en abondance des richesses et de la gloire.

5. As a result, the LORD made his kingdom secure, and all Judah gave Jehoshaphat gifts, so that he enjoyed great wealth and glory.

6. Son courage grandit dans les voies de Yahweh, et il fit encore disparaître de Juda les hauts lieux et les aschéras.

6. Thus he was encouraged to follow the LORD'S ways, and again he removed the high places and the sacred poles from Judah.

7. La troisième année de son règne, il envoya ses chefs, Ben-Haïl, Obdias, Zacharias, Nathanaël et Michéas, enseigner dans les villes de Juda,

7. In the third year of his reign he sent his leading men, Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.

8. et avec eux les lévites Séméïas, Nathanias, Zabadias, Asaël, Sémiramoth, Jonathan, Adonias, Thobias, Thobadonias, et, avec ces lévites, !es prêtres Elisama et Joram.

8. With them he sent the Levites Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah and Tobijah, together with the priests Elishama and Jehoram.

9. Ils enseignèrent dans Juda, ayant avec eux le livre de la loi de Yahweh ; ils parcoururent toutes les villes de Juda, et ils enseignèrent parmi le peuple.

9. They taught in Judah, having with them the book containing the law of the LORD; they traveled through all the cities of Judah and taught among the people.

10. La terreur de Yahweh s'empara de tous !es royaumes des pays qui environnaient Juda, et ils ne firent pas la guerre à Josaphat.

10. Now the fear of the LORD was upon all the kingdoms of the countries surrounding Judah, so that they did not war against Jehoshaphat.

11. Des philistins apportèrent à Josaphat des présents et un tribut en argent ; les Arabes aussi lui amenèrent du bétail, sept mille sept cents béliers et sept mille sept cents boucs.

11. Some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and a tribute of silver; and the Arabs also brought him a flock of seven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.

12. Josaphat était en voie de s'élever au plus haut degré de grandeur. Il bâtit en Juda des forteresses et des villes pour servir de magasins;

12. Jehoshaphat grew steadily greater. He built strongholds and store cities in Judah.

13. et il avait beaucoup de provisions dans les villes de Juda, et des guerriers, hommes vaillants dans Jérusalem.

13. He carried out many works in the cities of Judah, and he had soldiers, valiant warriors, in Jerusalem.

14. Voici leur dénombrement, selon leurs familles. De Juda, chefs de milliers : Adna, le chef, et avec lui, trois cent mille vaillants hommes ;

14. This was their mustering according to their ancestral houses. Of Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him three hundred thousand valiant warriors.

15. à ses côtés, Johanan, !e chef, et avec lui,. deux cent quatre-vingt mille hommes;

15. Next to him, Jehohanan the commander, and with him two hundred eighty thousand.

16. et à ses côtés, Amasias fils de Zécri, qui s'était volontairement consacré à Yahweh, et avec lui, deux cent mille vaillants hommes.

16. Next to him, Amasiah, son of Zichri, who offered himself to the LORD, and with him two hundred thousand valiant warriors.

17. - De Benjamin : Eliada, homme vaillant, et avec lui, deux cent mille hommes armés de l'arc et du bouclier ;

17. From Benjamin: Eliada, a valiant warrior, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and buckler.

18. et à ses côtés, Jozabad, et avec lui, cent quatre-vingt mille hommes armés pour la guerre.

18. Next to him, Jozabad, and with him one hundred and eighty thousand equipped for war.

19. -- Tels sont ceux qui étaient au service du roi, outre ceux que le roi avait placés dans les villes fortes, dans tout le territoire de Juda.

19. These were at the service of the king; in addition were those whom the king had placed in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.
