Jeremiah, 26

1. At the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh,

1. Im Anfang der Regierung Jojakims, des Sohnes Joschijas, des Königs von Juda, erging vom Herrn dieses Wort:

2. 'Yahweh says this, "Stand in the court of the Temple of Yahweh. To all the people from the towns of Judah who come to worship in the Temple of Yahweh you will say everything I have ordered you to say, not omitting one syllable.

2. So spricht der Herr: Stell dich in den Vorhof des Hauses des Herrn und sag zu den Leuten, die aus allen Städten Judas kommen, um im Haus des Herrn anzubeten, alles, was ich dir ihnen zu verkünden aufgetragen habe; kein Wort sollst du weglassen.

3. Perhaps they will listen and each turn from his evil way: if so, I shall relent and not bring the disaster on them which I intend because of their misdeeds."

3. Vielleicht hören sie und kehren um, jeder von seinem bösen Weg, sodass mich das Unheil reut, das ich ihnen wegen ihrer schlechten Taten zugedacht habe.

4. Say to them, "Yahweh says this: If you will not listen to me and follow my Law which I have given you,

4. Sag also zu ihnen: So spricht der Herr: Wenn ihr nicht auf mein Wort hört und meiner Weisung nicht folgt, die ich euch gegeben habe,

5. and pay attention to the words of my servants the prophets whom I have never tired of sending to you, although you never have paid attention,

5. wenn ihr nicht auf die Worte meiner Knechte, der Propheten, hört, die ich immer wieder zu euch sende, obwohl ihr nicht hört,

6. I shall treat this Temple as I treated Shiloh, and make this city a curse for all the nations of the world." '

6. dann verfahre ich mit diesem Haus wie mit Schilo und mache diese Stadt zu einem Fluch bei allen Völkern der Erde.

7. The priests and prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah say these words in the Temple of Yahweh.

7. Die Priester, die Propheten und das ganze Volk hörten, wie Jeremia diese Worte vor dem Haus des Herrn vortrug.

8. When Jeremiah had finished saying everything that Yahweh had ordered him to say to all the people, the priests and prophets and all the people seized hold of him and said, 'You will die for this!

8. Als Jeremia alles gesagt hatte, was er im Auftrag des Herrn vor dem ganzen Volk zu verkünden hatte, ergriffen ihn die Priester, die Propheten und alles Volk und schrien: Jetzt musst du sterben.

9. Why have you made this prophecy in Yahweh's name, "This Temple will become like Shiloh, and this city become an uninhabited ruin"?' And the people all crowded in on Jeremiah in the Temple of Yahweh.

9. Warum weissagst du im Namen des Herrn: Wie Schilo wird es diesem Haus gehen und diese Stadt wird verwüstet und entvölkert werden? Das ganze Volk rottete sich beim Haus des Herrn um Jeremia zusammen.

10. Hearing of this, the chief men of Judah came up from the royal palace to the Temple of Yahweh and took their seats at the entry of the New Gate of the Temple of Yahweh.

10. Als die Beamten Judas von diesen Vorgängen hörten, gingen sie vom Königspalast zum Haus des Herrn hinauf und setzten sich am Eingang des Neuen Tempeltors nieder.

11. The priests and prophets then said to the chief men and all the people, 'This man deserves to die, since he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.'

11. Die Priester und Propheten sagten zu den Beamten und zum ganzen Volk: Dieser Mann hat den Tod verdient; denn er hat gegen diese Stadt geweissagt, wie ihr mit eigenen Ohren gehört habt.

12. Jeremiah, however, replied to all the chief men and all the people as follows, 'Yahweh himself sent me to prophesy against this Temple and this city all the things you have heard.

12. Jeremia aber erwiderte allen Beamten und dem ganzen Volk: Der Herr hat mich gesandt, damit ich als Prophet gegen dieses Haus und diese Stadt alle Worte verkünde, die ihr gehört habt.

13. So now amend your behaviour and actions, listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, and Yahweh will relent about the disaster that he has decreed for you.

13. Nun also, bessert euer Verhalten und euer Tun und hört auf die Stimme des Herrn, eures Gottes! Dann wird den Herrn das Unheil reuen, das er euch angedroht hat.

14. For myself, I am, as you see, in your hands. Do whatever you please or think right with me.

14. Ich selbst bin in eurer Hand; macht mit mir, was ihr für gut und recht haltet.

15. But be sure of this, that if you put me to death, you will be bringing innocent blood on yourselves, on this city and on its inhabitants, since Yahweh has truly sent me to you to say all this for you to hear.'

15. Aber das sollt ihr wissen: Wenn ihr mich tötet, bringt ihr unschuldiges Blut über euch, über diese Stadt und ihre Einwohner. Denn der Herr hat mich wirklich zu euch gesandt, damit ich euch alle diese Worte in die Ohren rufe.

16. The chief men and all the people then said to the priests and prophets, 'This man does not deserve to die: he has spoken to us in the name of Yahweh our God.'

16. Da sagten die Beamten und das ganze Volk zu den Priestern und Propheten: Dieser Mann hat den Tod nicht verdient; denn er hat zu uns im Namen des Herrn, unseres Gottes, geredet.

17. And some of the country's elders rose to address all the assembled people.

17. Einige von den Ältesten des Landes standen auf und sagten zu der ganzen Volksversammlung:

18. 'Micah of Moresheth,' they said, 'who prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, had this to say to all the people of Judah, "Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Zion will become ploughland, Jerusalem a heap of rubble and the Temple Mount a wooded height."

18. Micha von Moreschet, der zur Zeit Hiskijas, des Königs von Juda, als Prophet wirkte, hat zum ganzen Volk Juda gesagt: So spricht der Herr der Heere: Zion wird umgepflügt zu Ackerland, Jerusalem wird zum Trümmerhaufen, der Tempelberg zur überwucherten Höhe.

19. 'Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death for this? Did they not rather, fearing Yahweh, plead with him, to such effect that Yahweh relented about the disaster which he had decreed for them? Are we now to burden our souls with such a crime?'

19. Haben ihn etwa Hiskija, der König von Juda, und ganz Juda deshalb hingerichtet? Hat er nicht Gott gefürchtet und den Zorn des Herrn besänftigt, sodass den Herrn das Unheil reute, das er ihnen angedroht hatte? Und wir sollten ein so großes Unrecht tun zu unserem eigenen Schaden?

20. There was another man, too, who used to prophesy in Yahweh's name, Uriah son of Shemaiah, from Kiriath-Jearim. He prophesied exactly the same things against this city and this country as Jeremiah.

20. Damals wirkte noch ein anderer Mann als Prophet im Namen des Herrn, Urija, der Sohn Schemajas, aus Kirjat-Jearim. Er weissagte gegen diese Stadt und dieses Land mit ganz ähnlichen Worten wie Jeremia.

21. When King Jehoiakim with all his officers and all the chief men heard what he said, the king was determined to put him to death. On hearing this, Uriah took fright and, fleeing, escaped to Egypt.

21. Der König Jojakim, alle seine Heerführer und alle Beamten hörten von seinen Reden. Daher suchte der König ihn zu töten. Als Urija davon erfuhr, bekam er Angst, floh und gelangte nach Ägypten.

22. King Jehoiakim, however, sent Elnathan son of Achbor to Egypt with others,

22. Der König Jojakim aber schickte Leute nach Ägypten, nämlich Elnatan, den Sohn Achbors, mit einigen Männern.

23. who brought Uriah back from Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him put to the sword and his body thrown into the common burial ground.

23. Sie holten Urija aus Ägypten und brachten ihn zu König Jojakim; dieser ließ ihn mit dem Schwert erschlagen und seinen Leichnam zu den Gräbern des niedrigen Volkes werfen.

24. But Jeremiah had a protector in Ahikam son of Shaphan, so he was not handed over to the people to be put to death.

24. Ahikam jedoch, der Sohn Schafans, beschützte Jeremia, sodass man ihn nicht dem Volk auslieferte, das ihn töten wollte.
