Prophetia Ezechielis, 20

1. Et factum est in anno sep timo, in quinto mense, in de cima mensis, venerunt viri de senioribus Israel, ut interrogarent Dominum, et sederunt coram me.

1. In the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before me.

3. “Fili hominis, loquere senioribus Israel et dices ad eos: Haec dicit Dominus Deus: Num ad interrogandum me vos venistis? Vivo ego, quia non respondebo vobis, ait Dominus Deus.

3. "Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD, Is it to inquire of me that you come? As I live, says the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you.

4. Numquid iudicabis eos, numquid iudicabis, fili hominis? Abominationes patrum eorum ostende eis.

4. Will you judge them, son of man, will you judge them? Then let them know the abominations of their fathers,

5. Et dices ad eos: Haec dicit Dominus Deus: In die qua elegi Israel et levavi manum meam pro stirpe domus Iacob et apparui eis in terra Aegypti et levavi manum meam pro eis dicens: Ego Dominus Deus vester;

5. and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: On the day when I chose Israel, I swore to the seed of the house of Jacob, making myself known to them in the land of Egypt, I swore to them, saying, I am the LORD your God.

6. in die illa levavi manum meam pro eis, ut educerem eos de terra Aegypti in terram, quam provideram eis fluentem lacte et melle, quae est egregia inter omnes terras.

6. On that day I swore to them that I would bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most glorious of all lands.

7. Et dixi ad eos: Unusquisque abominationes oculorum suorum abiciat, et in idolis Aegypti nolite pollui: ego Dominus Deus vester.

7. And I said to them, Cast away the detestable things your eyes feast on, every one of you, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the LORD your God.

8. Et irritaverunt me nolueruntque me audire; unusquisque abominationes oculorum suorum non proiecit, nec idola Aegypti reliquerunt. Et dixi, ut effunderem indignationem meam super eos et consummarem iram meam in eis in medio terrae Aegypti.

8. But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me; they did not every man cast away the detestable things their eyes feasted on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. "Then I thought I would pour out my wrath upon them and spend my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

9. Et feci propter nomen meum, ut non violaretur coram gentibus, in quarum medio erant, et inter quas apparui eis, ut educerem eos de terra Aegypti.

9. But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations among whom they dwelt, in whose sight I made myself known to them in bringing them out of the land of Egypt.

10. Eduxi ergo eos de terra Aegypti et duxi in desertum.

10. So I led them out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.

11. Et dedi eis praecepta mea et iudicia mea ostendi eis, quae faciat homo et vivat in eis.

11. I gave them my statutes and showed them my ordinances, by whose observance man shall live.

12. Insuper et sabbata mea dedi eis, ut essent signum inter me et eos, et scirent quia ego Dominus sanctificans eos.

12. Moreover I gave them my sabbaths, as a sign between me and them, that they might know that I the LORD sanctify them.

13. Et irritaverunt me domus Israel in deserto: in praeceptis meis non ambulaverunt et iudicia mea proiecerunt, quae faciens homo vivet in eis, et sabbata mea violaverunt vehementer. Dixi ergo, ut effunderem furorem meum super eos in deserto et consumerem eos.

13. But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness; they did not walk in my statutes but rejected my ordinances, by whose observance man shall live; and my sabbaths they greatly profaned. "Then I thought I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to make a full end of them.

14. Et feci propter nomen meum, ne violaretur coram gentibus, de quibus eduxi eos in conspectu earum.

14. But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out.

15. Attamen ego levavi quoque manum meam super eos in deserto, ne inducerem eos in terram, quam dedi eis fluentem lacte et melle, praecipuam terrarum omnium;

15. Moreover I swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most glorious of all lands,

16. quia iudicia mea proiecerunt et in praeceptis meis non ambulaverunt et sabbata mea violaverunt, post idola enim sua cor eorum gradiebatur.

16. because they rejected my ordinances and did not walk in my statutes, and profaned my sabbaths; for their heart went after their idols.

17. Et pepercit oculus meus super eos, ut non interficerem eos; nec consumpsi eos in deserto.

17. Nevertheless my eye spared them, and I did not destroy them or make a full end of them in the wilderness.

18. Dixi autem ad filios eorum in solitudine: In praeceptis patrum vestrorum nolite incedere nec iudicia eorum custodiatis nec in idolis eorum polluamini.

18. "And I said to their children in the wilderness, Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, nor observe their ordinances, nor defile yourselves with their idols.

19. Ego Dominus Deus vester. In praeceptis meis ambulate et iudicia mea custodite et facite ea

19. I the LORD am your God; walk in my statutes, and be careful to observe my ordinances,

20. et sabbata mea sanctificate, ut sint signum inter me et vos, et sciatur quia ego Dominus Deus vester.

20. and hallow my sabbaths that they may be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I the LORD am your God.

21. Et exacerbaverunt me filii; in praeceptis meis non ambulaverunt et iudicia mea non custodierunt, ut facerent ea, quae cum fecerit homo, vivet in eis, et sabbata mea violaverunt. Et comminatus sum, ut effunderem furorem meum super eos et consummarem iram meam in eis in deserto.

21. But the children rebelled against me; they did not walk in my statutes, and were not careful to observe my ordinances, by whose observance man shall live; they profaned my sabbaths. "Then I thought I would pour out my wrath upon them and spend my anger against them in the wilderness.

22. Averti autem manum meam et feci propter nomen meum, ut non violaretur coram gentibus, de quibus eduxi eos in oculis earum.

22. But I withheld my hand, and acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out.

23. Iterum levavi manum meam in eos in solitudine, ut dispergerem illos in nationes et ventilarem in terras,

23. Moreover I swore to them in the wilderness that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them through the countries,

24. eo quod iudicia mea non fecissent et praecepta mea reprobassent et sabbata mea violassent et post idola patrum suorum fuissent oculi eorum.

24. because they had not executed my ordinances, but had rejected my statutes and profaned my sabbaths, and their eyes were set on their fathers' idols.

25. Ergo et ego dedi eis praecepta non bona et iudicia, in quibus non vivent;

25. Moreover I gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances by which they could not have life;

26. et pollui eos in muneribus suis, cum offerrent omne, quod aperit vulvam, ut horrorem eis incuterem, et sciant quia ego Dominus.

26. and I defiled them through their very gifts in making them offer by fire all their first-born, that I might horrify them; I did it that they might know that I am the LORD.

27. Quam ob rem loquere ad domum Israel, fili hominis, et dices ad eos: Haec dicit Dominus Deus: Adhuc et in hoc blasphemaverunt me patres vestri, cum sprevissent me contemnentes,

27. "Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: In this again your fathers blasphemed me, by dealing treacherously with me.

28. et induxissem eos in terram, super quam levavi manum meam, ut darem eis. Viderunt omnem collem excelsum et omne lignum nemorosum et immolaverunt ibi victimas suas et dederunt ibi irritationem oblationis suae et posuerunt ibi odorem suavitatis suae et libaverunt libationes suas.

28. For when I had brought them into the land which I swore to give them, then wherever they saw any high hill or any leafy tree, there they offered their sacrifices and presented the provocation of their offering; there they sent up their soothing odors, and there they poured out their drink offerings.

29. Et dixi ad eos: Quid est excelsum, ad quod vos ingredimini? Et vocatum est nomen eius Excelsum usque ad hanc diem.

29. (I said to them, What is the high place to which you go? So its name is called Bamah to this day.)

30. Propterea dic ad domum Israel: Haec dicit Dominus Deus: Certe in via patrum vestrorum vos polluimini et post offendicula eorum vos fornicamini

30. Wherefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord GOD: Will you defile yourselves after the manner of your fathers and go astray after their detestable things?

31. et in oblatione donorum vestrorum, cum traducitis filios vestros per ignem; vos polluimini in omnibus idolis vestris usque hodie, et ego respondebo vobis, domus Israel? Vivo ego, dicit Dominus Deus, quia non respondebo vobis.

31. When you offer your gifts and sacrifice your sons by fire, you defile yourselves with all your idols to this day. And shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, says the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you.

32. Neque cogitatio mentis vestrae fiet dicentium: “Erimus sicut gentes et sicut cognationes terrarum, ut colamus ligna et lapides”.

32. "What is in your mind shall never happen -- the thought, `Let us be like the nations, like the tribes of the countries, and worship wood and stone.'

33. Vivo ego, dicit Dominus Deus, quoniam in manu forti et brachio extento et in furore effuso regnabo super vos.

33. "As I live, says the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out, I will be king over you.

34. Et educam vos de populis et congregabo vos de terris, in quibus dispersi estis; in manu valida et brachio extento et in furore effuso.

34. I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out;

35. Et adducam vos in desertum populorum et iudicio contendam vobiscum ibi facie ad faciem.

35. and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will enter into judgment with you face to face.

36. Sicut iudicio contendi adversum patres vestros in deserto terrae Aegypti, sic iudicio contendam vobiscum, dicit Dominus Deus,

36. As I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you, says the Lord GOD.

37. et transire vos faciam sub baculo meo et inducam vos in vinculis foederis.

37. I will make you pass under the rod, and I will let you go in by number.

38. Et segregabo de vobis transgressores et impios et de terra incolatus eorum educam eos, et terram Israel non ingredientur, et scietis quia ego Dominus.

38. I will purge out the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against me; I will bring them out of the land where they sojourn, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

39. Et vos, domus Israel, haec dicit Dominus Deus: Singuli post idola vestra ambulate et servite eis. Sed postea nonne audietis me et nomen meum sanctum non polluetis ultra in muneribus vestris et in idolis vestris?

39. "As for you, O house of Israel, thus says the Lord GOD: Go serve every one of you his idols, now and hereafter, if you will not listen to me; but my holy name you shall no more profane with your gifts and your idols.

40. In monte enim sancto meo, in monte excelso Israel, ait Dominus Deus, ibi serviet mihi omnis domus Israel: omnes, inquam, in terra, in qua placebunt mihi; et ibi quaeram donaria vestra et primitias oblationum vestrarum in omnibus sanctificationibus vestris.

40. "For on my holy mountain, the mountain height of Israel, says the Lord GOD, there all the house of Israel, all of them, shall serve me in the land; there I will accept them, and there I will require your contributions and the choicest of your gifts, with all your sacred offerings.

41. In odorem suavitatis suscipiam vos, cum eduxero vos de populis et congregavero vos de terris, in quas dispersi estis, et sanctificabor in vobis in oculis nationum.

41. As a pleasing odor I will accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples, and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered; and I will manifest my holiness among you in the sight of the nations.

42. Et scietis quia ego Dominus, cum induxero vos ad terram Israel, in terram, pro qua levavi manum meam, ut darem eam patribus vestris.

42. And you shall know that I am the LORD, when I bring you into the land of Israel, the country which I swore to give to your fathers.

43. Et recordabimini ibi viarum vestrarum et omnium scelerum vestrorum, quibus polluti estis, et displicebitis vobis in conspectu vestro in omnibus malitiis vestris, quas fecistis.

43. And there you shall remember your ways and all the doings with which you have polluted yourselves; and you shall loathe yourselves for all the evils that you have committed.

44. Et scietis quia ego Dominus, cum benefecero vobis propter nomen meum, non secundum vias vestras malas neque secundum scelera vestra pessima, domus Israel”, ait Dominus Deus.

44. And you shall know that I am the LORD, when I deal with you for my name's sake, not according to your evil ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O house of Israel, says the Lord GOD."

45. And the word of the LORD came to me:

46.

46. "Son of man, set your face toward the south, preach against the south, and prophesy against the forest land in the Negeb;

47.

47. say to the forest of the Negeb, Hear the word of the LORD: Thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I will kindle a fire in you, and it shall devour every green tree in you and every dry tree; the blazing flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from south to north shall be scorched by it.

48.

48. All flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it; it shall not be quenched."

49.

49. Then I said, "Ah Lord GOD! they are saying of me, `Is he not a maker of allegories?'"

20:1-9 - Dio ricorda l'infedeltà di Israele fin dall'Egitto, chiamandolo al pentimento. La storia del popolo d'Israele è un ciclo di ribellione, ma Dio offre sempre misericordia e restaurazione (vedi anche Esodo 32:9-14 e Deuteronomio 9:7-12).

20:10-17 - Dio rivela che, nonostante la Sua pazienza, la disobbedienza di Israele porterà al giudizio. L'avvertimento contro l'idolatria e la mancanza di rispetto per la Sua parola è chiaro, e Dio riafferma il Suo desiderio di purificare il Suo popolo (vedi anche Geremia 7:9-10 e Isaia 1:16-20).

20:18-26 - Viene evidenziato il rifiuto di Israele di seguire le vie di Dio, ma Egli promette di ristabilirli e di purificare l'impurità dai loro cuori. Il giudizio sarà un mezzo per portare il popolo al pentimento (vedi anche Ezechiele 36:25-27 e Geremia 31:33-34).

Neemia 9:16-17: "Ma loro, i nostri antenati, erano arroganti; si sono ostinati e non hanno obbedito ai tuoi comandamenti. Si sono rifiutati di ascoltarti e non si sono ricordati dei prodigi che hai compiuto in mezzo a loro. Divennero ostinati e, nella loro ribellione, nominarono un leader per tornare alla loro schiavitù. Ma tu sei un Dio che perdona, un Dio gentile e misericordioso, molto paziente e pieno di amore. Ecco perché non li hai abbandonati." - Questa preghiera di Neemia riecheggia il racconto storico della ribellione e della grazia di Dio di Ezechiele 20.

Atti 7:51-53: "Gente ribelle, ostinata nel cuore e nelle orecchie! Sei proprio come i tuoi antenati: resisti sempre allo Spirito Santo! Quale dei profeti i tuoi antenati non hanno perseguitato? Hanno ucciso coloro che avevano predetto la venuta del Giusto, e ora tu lo hai tradito e ucciso. Tu, che hai ricevuto la Legge per mezzo degli angeli, non l'hai osservata." - Stefano riassume la storia di Israele in modo simile a Ezechiele 20, evidenziando la continua ribellione contro Dio.

Romani 2:28-29: "Non è ebreo chi lo è solo esteriormente, né la circoncisione è quella meramente esteriore e fisica. NO! Un ebreo è uno che lo è interiormente, e la circoncisione è quella effettuata nel cuore, dallo Spirito, e non dalla legge scritta. Per costoro la lode non viene dagli uomini, ma da Dio." - Paolo rilegge il concetto di identità del popolo di Dio, tema che Ezechiele 20 affronta in relazione alla storia di Israele.

Ebrei 4:7-8: "Per questo Dio fissa nuovamente un certo giorno, chiamandolo 'Oggi', quando molto tempo dopo, per mezzo di Davide, disse, come è già stato dichiarato: 'Oggi se udite la sua voce, non indurite i vostri cuori'. Perché se Giosuè avesse dato loro riposo, Dio non avrebbe parlato più tardi di un altro giorno." - L'autore della Lettera agli Ebrei riflette sulla storia di Israele in modo simile a Ezechiele 20, sottolineando l'importanza dell'ascolto e dell'obbedienza a Dio.
