Deuteronomy, 11

2. It is not your children, who have not known it from experience, but you yourselves who must now understand the discipline of the LORD, your God; his majesty, his strong hand and outstretched arm;

Matthew 22:37-39: "Jesus answered, 'Love the Lord, His God of all His heart, all His soul and all His understanding.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is similar to him: 'Love your neighbor as yourself'. " This verse highlights the commandment of loving God above all and loving one's own as itself as a way of obeying God's commandments.
