1 Samuel, 5

8. So they summoned all the Philistine lords and inquired of them, "What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?" The men of Gath replied, "Let them move the ark of the God of Israel on to us."

1 Samuel 5 describes the capture of the ark of the covenant by the Philistines and the problems they faced as a result of taking the sacred object of Israel. The chapter highlights the superiority of the God of Israel over the gods of the Philistines and how he manifested himself in judgment against pagan idols. Exodus 20:3-5: "Thou shalt not have other gods before me. Thou shalt not make any idol, no image of anything in heaven, on earth, or in the waters under the earth. You cannot drink from the chalice of the Lord and the chalice of demons. cannot participate in the table of the Lord and the table of demons. Or will we cause jealousy in the Lord? We are stronger than Him? " This verse emphasizes the importance of not mixing worship with God with pagan practices or worship with idols.
