Isaïe, 8

1. Et Yahweh me dit : "Prends une grande tablette, et écris-y en caractères lisibles à tous : Hâtez le pillage ! Butinez vite!"

1. The LORD said to me: Take a large cylinder-seal, and inscribe on it in ordinary letters: "Belonging to Maher-shalal-hash-baz."

2. Et je pris avec moi des témoins dignes de foi, le prêtre et Zacharie, fils de Jébarachie.

2. And I took reliable witnesses, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah, son of Jeberechiah.

3. Et je m'approchai de la prophétesse, et elle conçut et enfanta un fils. Et Yahweh me dit : "Appelle-le Maher-Schalal-Chasch-Baz.

3. Then I went to the prophetess and she conceived and bore a son. The LORD said to me: Name him Maher-shalal-hash-baz,

4. Car avant que l'enfant sache crier : Mon père, ma mère! on portera les richesses de Damas et les dépouilles de Samarie devant le roi d'Assyrie."

7. à cause de cela, voici que le Seigneur va faire venir sur eux les eaux du fleuve, fortes et profondes, le roi d'Assyrie et toute sa puissance. Il s'élèvera partout au-dessus de son lit, et se répandra par-dessus toutes ses rives

7. Therefore the LORD raises against them the waters of the River, great and mighty (the king of Assyria and all his power). It shall rise above all its channels, and overflow all its banks;

8. Il pénétrera en Juda, il débordera, il inondera, il montera jusqu'au cou; et le déploiement de ses ailes couvrira toute l'étendue de ton pays, ô Emmanuel."

8. It shall pass into Judah, and flood it all throughout: up to the neck it shall reach; It shall spread its wings the full width of your land, Immanuel!

9. Poussez des cris de guerre, peuples, et vous serez défaits! prêtez l'oreille, vous toutes, extrémités de la terre! Equipez-vous, et vous serez défaits! Equipez-vous, et vous serez défaits!

9. Know, O peoples, and be appalled! Give ear, all you distant lands! Arm, but be crushed! Arm, but be crushed!

10. Formez des projets, et ils seront anéantis ; donnez des ordres, et ils resteront sans effet ; car Dieu est avec nous!

10. Form a plan, and it shall be thwarted; make a resolve, and it shall not be carried out, for "With us is God!"

11. Car ainsi m'a parlé Yahweh, quand sa main me saisit et qu'il m'avertit de ne pas suivre la voie de ce peuple, en disant:

11. For thus said the LORD to me, taking hold of me and warning me not to walk in the way of this people:

12. "N'appelez pas conjuration tout ce que ce peuple appelle conjuration ne craignez. point ce qu'il craint, et ne vous effrayez pas.

12. Call not alliance what this people calls alliance, and fear not, nor stand in awe of what they fear.

13. Yahweh des armées, c'est lui que vous sanctifierez, lui qui sera votre crainte et votre frayeur.

13. But with the LORD of hosts make your alliance-- for him be your fear and your awe.

14. Et il Sera un sanctuaire; mais aussi une pierre d'achoppement et un rocher de scandale pour les deux maisons d'Israël, un filet et un piège pour les habitants de Jérusalem.

14. Yet he shall be a snare, an obstacle and a stumbling stone to both the houses of Israel, A trap and a snare to those who dwell in Jerusalem;

15. And many among them shall stumble and fall, broken, snared, and captured.

17. J'espère en Yahweh qui cache sa face à la maison de Jacob, et je me confie en lui.

17. For I will trust in the LORD, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob; yes, I will wait for him.

18. Voici que moi et mes enfants que Dieu m'a donnés, nous sommes des signes et des présages en Israël, de la part de Yahweh des armées, qui habite sur la montagne de Sion.

18. Look at me and the children whom the Lord has given me: we are signs and portents in Israel from the LORD of hosts who dwells on Mount Zion.

19. Quand ils vous diront: "Consultez ceux qui évoquent les morts, et les devins qui murmurent et chuchotent," répondez : "Un peuple ne doit-il pas consulter son Dieu? Consultera-t-il les morts pour les vivants?

19. And when they say to you, "Inquire of mediums and fortune-tellers (who chirp and mutter!); should not a people inquire of their gods, apply to the dead on behalf of the living?"--

20. A l'enseignement et au témoignage!" Si le peuple tient un autre langage, il n'y a point pour lui d'attente.

20. then this document will furnish its instruction. That kind of thing they will surely say.

21. Il errera dans le pays, accablé de misère et affamé, et, quand il aura faim, il maudira, dans sa fureur, son roi et son Dieu.

22. Il élèvera ses regards en haut, et les abaissera vers la terre: et voici la détresse, l'obscurité, une sombre angoisse; Il sera rejeté dans les ténèbres.

23. Mais il n'y a plus de ténèbres pour la terre qui a été dans l'angoisse. Comme le premier temps a couvert d'opprobre le pays de Zabulon et le pays de Nephtali, le dernier temps remplira de gloire le chemin de la mer, le pays d'au delà du Jourdain et le district des nations.
