Jeremías, 29

1. Este es el tenor de la carta que envió el profeta Jeremías desde Jeursalén al resto de los ancianos de la deportación, a los sacerdotes, profetas y pueblo en general, que había deportado Nabucodonosor desde Jerusalén a Babilonia

1. Now these [are] the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

2. - después de salir de Jerusalén el rey Jeconías y la Gran Dama, los eunucos, los jefes de Judá y Jerusalén, los herreros y cerrajeros -,

2. (After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)

3. por mediación de Elasá, hijo de Safán, y de Guemarías, hijo de Jilquías, a quienes Sedecías, rey de Judá, envió a Babilonia, donde Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia:

3. By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,

4. «Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel, a toda la deportación que deporté de Jerusalén a Babilonia:

4. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;

5. Edificad casas y habitadlas; plantad huertos y comed su fruto;

5. Build ye houses, and dwell [in them]; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

6. tomad mujeres y engendrad hijos e hijas; casad a vuestros hijos y dad vuestras hijas a maridos para que den a luz hijos e hijas, y medrad allí y no mengüéis;

6. Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.

7. procurad el bien de la ciudad a donde os he deportado y orad por ella a Yahveh, porque su bien será el vuestro.

7. And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

8. Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el dios de Israel: No os embauquen los profetas que hay entre vosotros ni vuestros adivinos, y no hagáis caso de vuestros soñadores que sueñan por cuenta propia,

8. For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that [be] in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

9. porque falsamente os profetizan en mi Nombre. Yo no los he enviado - oráculo de Yahveh -.

9. For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.

10. «Pues así dice Yahveh: Al filo de cumplírsele a Babilonia setenta años, yo os visitaré y confirmaré sobre vosotros mi favorable promesa de volveros a este lugar;

10. For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

11. que bien me sé los pensamientos que pienso sobre vosotros - oráculo de Yahveh - pensamientos de paz, y no de desgracia, de daros un porvenir de esperanza.

11. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

12. Me invocaréis y vendréis a rogarme, y yo os escucharé.

12. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

13. Me buscaréis y me encontraréis cuando me solicitéis de todo corazón;

13. And ye shall seek me, and find [me], when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

14. me dejaré encontrar de vosotros (- oráculo de Yahveh -; devolveré vuestros cautivos, os recogeré de todas las naciones y lugares a donde os arrojé - oráculo de Yahveh - y os haré tornar al sitio de donde os hice que fueseis desterrados).

14. And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

15. «En cuanto a eso que decís: "Nos ha suscitado Yahveh profetas en Babilonia",

15. Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;

16. así dice Yahveh del rey que se sienta sobre el solio de David y de todo el pueblo que se asienta en esta ciudad, los hermanos vuestros que no salieron con vosotros al destierro;

16. [Know] that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, [and] of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

17. así dice Yahveh Sebaot: He aquí que yo suelto contra ellos la espada, el hambre y la peste, y los pondré como aquellos higos reventados,, tan malos que no se podían comer.

17. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

18. Los perseguiré con la espada, el hambre y la peste, y los convertiré en espantajo para todos los reinos de la tierra: maldición, pasmo, rechifla y oprobio entre todas las naciones a donde los arroje,

18. And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:

19. por cuanto que no oyeron las palabras - oráculo de Yahveh - que les envié por mis siervos los profetas asiduamente; pero no oísteis - oráculo de Yahveh -.

19. Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending [them]; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.

20. Vosotros, pues, oíd la palabra de Yahveh, todos los deportados que envié de Jerusalén a Babilonia.

20. Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:

21. «Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel, sobre Ajab, hijo de Colaías, y sobre Sedecías, hijo de Maasías, que os profetizan falsamente en mi Nombre: He aquí que yo los pongo en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia; él los herirá ante vuestros ojos,

21. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

22. y de ellos tomarán esta maldición todos los deportados de Judá que se encuentran en Babilonia: "Vuélvate Yahveh como a Sedecías y como a Ajab, a quienes asó al fuego el rey de Babilonia",

22. And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which [are] in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

23. porque obraron con fatuidad en Jerusalén, cometieron adulterio con las mujeres de sus prójimos y fingieron pronunciar en mi Nombre palabras que yo no les mandé. Yo soy sabedor y testigo - oráculo de Yahveh -.»

23. Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and [am] a witness, saith the LORD.

24. Semaías el najlamita despachó en su propio nombre cartas (a todo el pueblo que hay en Jerusalén) a Sofonías, hijo del sacerdote Maasías (y a todos los sacerdotes), diciendo:

24. [Thus] shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

25. «Yahveh te ha puesto por sacerdote en vez del sacerdote Yehoyadá como inspector en la Casa de Yahveh de todos los locos y seudoprofetas: tú debes meterlos en los cepos y en el calabozo.

25. Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that [are] at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

26. Pues entonces, ¿por qué no has sancionado a Jeremías de Anatot que se os hace pasar por profeta?

26. The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man [that is] mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.

27. Porque, en efecto, nos ha enviado a Babilonia un mensaje diciendo: "Es para largo. Edificad casas y habitadlas; plantad huertos y comed su fruto"»

27. Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?

28. El sacerdote Sofonías leyó esta carta a oídos del profeta Jeremías.

28. For therefore he sent unto us [in] Babylon, saying, This [captivity is] long: build ye houses, and dwell [in them]; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

29. Entonces fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh a Jeremías en estos términos:

29. And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

30. «Envía este mensaje a todos los deportados: Así dice Yahveh respecto a Semaías el najlamita, por haberos profetizado sin haberle yo enviado, inspirándoos una falsa seguridad.

30. Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

31. Sí, por cierto, así dice Yahveh: He aquí que yo voy a visitar a Semaías el najlamita y a su descendencia. No habrá en ella ninguno que se siente en medio de este pueblo ni que vea el bien que yo haga a mi pueblo - oráculo de Yahveh - porque predicó la desobediencia a Yahveh.»

31. Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:

32.

32. Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.
