Jeremiah, 5

17. And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, [which] thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.

Jeremiah 5 is a chapter in which the prophet Jeremiah accuses the people of Judah of being unfaithful to God and disobeying his commandments, resulting in divine punishment. The chapter talks about the lack of justice and honesty, the pride and arrogance of the people, corruption and idolatry. Below are five verses related to these themes:

Proverbs 10:9: "He who walks in integrity is safe, but who perverts his ways will be known." The verse talks about the importance of honesty and integrity, something that the people of Judah were neglecting.

Micah 6:8: "He has declared you, O man, what is good, and what the Lord requires from you: May justice, and love mercy, and humbly Andes with your God." This verse emphasizes the importance of justice and humility before God, something that the people of Judah were ignoring.

Jeremiah 7:5-6: "But if you have to improve your ways and your works; you are very practicing justice between man and his neighbor, if you do not oppress the foreigner, neither the orphan, nor to the widow, nor spill, nor pour out Innocent blood in this place, nor walking after other gods to your own evil, then I will make you dwell in this place, on the earth that I gave to you and your parents forever. " This verse highlights the importance of social justice, compassion and exclusive worship of God.

Jeremiah 6:13-14: "For from the smallest of them to the largest, each one gives himself to greed; and from the prophet to the priest, each one practices falsehood. And heal the wound of my people lightly, saying: Peace , peace; when there is no peace. " This verse denounces the corruption of both religious leaders and the people in general.

Jeremiah 2:11: "Did you change any nation to their gods, even if they were not gods? But my people exchanged their glory for what is of no use." This verse highlights the idolatry of the people of Judah, who has abandoned the true God to worship worthless idols.
