In Exodus 7, God begins to show His power before Pharaoh and the Egyptian people through Moses and Aaron, sending several pests over Egypt to free the Hebrews from slavery. Some topics covered include God's authority over the Egyptian gods, the hardening of the Pharaoh's heart and the liberation of the Hebrews from slavery. Below are five verses related to these themes:
Exodus 7:5 - "And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord, when he extend my hand over Egypt, and take the children of Israel out of them." In this verse, God declares His power and authority over the Egyptian gods and the people, showing that He is the only true God.
Exodus 7:13 - "And the heart of Pharaoh hardened, and did not hear them, as the Lord had said." This verse illustrates Pharaoh's resistance to the message of Moses and Aaron and how God allowed his heart to harness to fulfill his will.
Exodus 7:17-"Thus saith the Lord," Thou shalt know that I am the Lord; behold, I have this rod in my hand I will wound the waters in the river, and become blood. " Here, God announces the first plague we will send over Egypt, transforming the waters of the Nile River into blood.
Exodus 7:22 - "Then the wizards of Egypt did the same with their enchantments; and the heart of Pharaoh hardened, and did not hear them, as the Lord had said." This verse shows how the Egyptian wizards managed to replicate the transformation of water into blood through their own enchantments, but Pharaoh was not convinced to release the Hebrews.
Exodus 7:25 - "And seven days passed after the Lord wounded the river." This verse marks the end of the first plague, and shows how God's pests were progressively getting worse and lasting longer, intensifying the pressure on Pharaoh to release the Hebrews.
