1. Ensuite il cheminait par les villes et par les bourgs, prêchant et annonçant la bonne nouvelle du royaume de Dieu; et les Douze étaient avec lui,

1. Afterward he journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve

2. ainsi que quelques femmes qui avaient été guéries d'esprits mauvais et de maladies : Marie, surnommée la Magdaléenne, de laquelle étaient sortis sept démons;

2. and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,

3. Jeanne, femme de Khouza intendant d'Hérode, Suzanne et plusieurs autres, qui les assistaient de leurs biens.

3. Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.

4. Comme une foule nombreuse s'amassait et que de toutes les villes on venait vers lui, il dit par parabole :

4. When a large crowd gathered, with people from one town after another journeying to him, he spoke in a parable.

5. " Le semeur sortit pour semer sa semence; et, pendant qu'il semait, du (grain) tomba le long du chemin; il fut foulé aux pieds, et les oiseaux du ciel le mangèrent.

5. "A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path and was trampled, and the birds of the sky ate it up.

6. D'autre tomba sur de la pierre, et, après avoir poussé, se dessécha, parce qu'il n'avait pas d'humidité.

6. Some seed fell on rocky ground, and when it grew, it withered for lack of moisture.

7. D'autre tomba dans les épines, et les épines poussant avec, l'étouffèrent.

7. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew with it and choked it.

8. D'autre tomba dans la bonne terre, et, après avoir poussé, donna du fruit au centuple. " Parlant ainsi, il clamait : " Qui a des oreilles pour entendre, entende ! "

8. And some seed fell on good soil, and when it grew, it produced fruit a hundredfold." After saying this, he called out, "Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear."

9. Ses disciples lui demandèrent ce que signifiait cette parabole :

9. Then his disciples asked him what the meaning of this parable might be.

10. " A vous, leur dit-il, il a été donné de connaître les mystères du royaume de Dieu; mais pour les autres, (c'est) en paraboles, pour que regardant ils ne voient point, et qu'écoutant ils ne comprennent point.

10. He answered, "Knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of God has been granted to you; but to the rest, they are made known through parables so that 'they may look but not see, and hear but not understand.'

11. Voici ce que signifie la parabole : La semence, c'est la parole de Dieu.

11. "This is the meaning of the parable. The seed is the word of God.

12. Ceux qui sont le long du chemin sont creux qui ont entendu; ensuite le diable vient, et il enlève la parole de leur c?ur, de peur qu'ils ne croient et ne se sauvent.

12. Those on the path are the ones who have heard, but the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts that they may not believe and be saved.

13. Ceux qui sont sur de la pierre sont ceux qui, en entendant la parole, l'accueillent avec joie; mais ils n'ont point de racine : ils croient pour un temps, et ils se retirent à l'heure de l'épreuve.

13. Those on rocky ground are the ones who, when they hear, receive the word with joy, but they have no root; they believe only for a time and fall away in time of trial.

14. Ce qui est tombé dans les épines, ce sont ceux qui ont entendu, mais vont et se laissent étouffer par les sollicitudes, les richesses et les plaisirs de la vie, et ils n'arrivent point à maturité.

14. As for the seed that fell among thorns, they are the ones who have heard, but as they go along, they are choked by the anxieties and riches and pleasures of life, and they fail to produce mature fruit.

15. Ce qui est tombé dans la bonne terre, ce sont ceux qui, après avoir entendu la parole avec un c?ur noble et bon, la gardent et portent du fruit grâce à la constance.

15. But as for the seed that fell on rich soil, they are the ones who, when they have heard the word, embrace it with a generous and good heart, and bear fruit through perseverance.

16. Personne, après avoir allumé une lampe, ne la couvre d'un vase ou ne la met sous un lit; mais on la met sur un chandelier, afin que ceux qui entrent voient la lumière.

16. "No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed; rather, he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light.

17. Car il n'y a rien de caché qui ne soit manifesté, ni rien de secret qui ne finisse par être connu et ne vienne au grand jour.

17. For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light.

18. Prenez donc garde à la manière dont vous écoutez; car on donnera à celui qui a, et à celui qui n'a pas, même ce qu'il croit avoir lui sera enlevé. "

18. Take care, then, how you hear. To anyone who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he seems to have will be taken away."

19. Sa mère et ses frères vinrent le trouver, mais ils ne pouvaient l'aborder à cause de la foule.

19. Then his mother and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd.

20. On lui annonça : " Votre mère et vos frères se tiennent dehors, et ils désirent vous voir. "

20. He was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you."

21. Il leur répondit : " Ma mère et mes frères sont ceux qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et qui la mettent en pratique. "

21. He said to them in reply, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it."

22. Or, un jour, il monta en barque avec ses disciples et leur dit : " Passons à l'autre rive du lac. " Et ils gagnèrent le large.

22. One day he got into a boat with his disciples and said to them, "Let us cross to the other side of the lake." So they set sail,

23. Pendant qu'ils naviguaient, il s'endormit. Et un tourbillon de vent s'étant abattu sur le lac, ils étaient envahis par l'eau et se trouvaient en péril.

23. and while they were sailing he fell asleep. A squall blew over the lake, and they were taking in water and were in danger.

24. S'approchant, ils le réveillèrent en disant : " Maître ! Maître ! nous périssons ! " Il se réveilla et commanda avec force au vent et à la houle de l'eau, et le calme se fit.

24. They came and woke him saying, "Master, master, we are perishing!" He awakened, rebuked the wind and the waves, and they subsided and there was a calm.

25. Puis il leur dit : " Où est votre foi? " Saisis de crainte et d'étonnement, ils se dirent les uns aux autres : " Quel est donc celui-ci, qu'il commande même au vent et à l'eau, et qu'ils lui obéissent? "

25. Then he asked them, "Where is your faith?" But they were filled with awe and amazed and said to one another, "Who then is this, who commands even the winds and the sea, and they obey him?"

26. Ils abordèrent au pays des Gergéséniens, qui est vis-à-vis de la Galilée.

26. Then they sailed to the territory of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.

27. Lorsqu'il fut débarqué à terre, vint à sa rencontre un homme de la ville, qui était possédé par des démons, qui depuis longtemps ne portait aucun vêtement et qui ne demeurait pas dans une maison, mais dans les tombeaux.

27. When he came ashore a man from the town who was possessed by demons met him. For a long time he had not worn clothes; he did not live in a house, but lived among the tombs.

28. Ayant aperçu Jésus, il poussa des cris, tomba à ses pieds et dit d'une voix forte : " Qu'avons-nous affaire ensemble, Jésus, Fils du Dieu très-haut? De grâce, ne me tourmentez point. "

28. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him; in a loud voice he shouted, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me!"

29. C'est qu'il ordonnait à l'esprit impur de sortir de cet homme. Bien des fois en effet il s'en était emparé, et on le tenait lié avec des chaînes et des entraves, bien gardé, mais, rompant les liens, il était poussé par le démon dans les lieux déserts.

29. For he had ordered the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (It had taken hold of him many times, and he used to be bound with chains and shackles as a restraint, but he would break his bonds and be driven by the demon into deserted places.)

30. Jésus lui demanda : " Quel est ton nom? " Il dit : " Légion, " car beaucoup de démons étaient entrés en lui.

30. Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" He replied, "Legion," because many demons had entered him.

31. Et ils le priaient de ne pas leur enjoindre de s'en aller dans l'abîme.

31. And they pleaded with him not to order them to depart to the abyss.

32. Or, il y avait là un assez grand troupeau de porcs qui paissaient sur la montagne; et ils lui firent cette prière : qu'il leur permît d'entrer en eux; et il le leur permit.

32. A herd of many swine was feeding there on the hillside, and they pleaded with him to allow them to enter those swine; and he let them.

33. Sortant de l'homme, les démons entrèrent dans les porcs; et le troupeau, prenant sa course, se précipita par les pentes escarpées dans le lac, et s'y noya.

33. The demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned.

34. Ceux qui le gardaient, à la vue de ce qui venait d'arriver, s'enfuirent, et ils racontèrent (la chose) dans la ville et dans la campagne.

34. When the swineherds saw what had happened, they ran away and reported the incident in the town and throughout the countryside.

35. Ils sortirent pour voir ce qui était arrivé : ils vinrent à Jésus et trouvèrent l'homme de qui les démons étaient sortis, assis aux pieds de Jésus, vêtu et dans son bon sens; ils furent saisis de frayeur.

35. People came out to see what had happened and, when they approached Jesus, they discovered the man from whom the demons had come out sitting at his feet. He was clothed and in his right mind, and they were seized with fear.

36. Ceux qui avaient vu leur racontèrent comment avait été guéri celui qui avait été possédé du démon.

36. Those who witnessed it told them how the possessed man had been saved.

37. Et toute la gent du territoire des Gergéséniens lui demanda de s'éloigner d'eux, car ils étaient saisis d'une grande crainte. Et lui monta en barque pour s'en retourner.

37. The entire population of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them because they were seized with great fear. So he got into a boat and returned.

38. L'homme de qui les démons étaient sortis lui demandait la grâce de rester avec lui, mais il le congédia en disant :

38. The man from whom the demons had come out begged to remain with him, but he sent him away, saying,

39. " Retourne dans ta maison, et fais le récit de tout ce que Dieu a fait pour toi. " Et il s'en alla et publia par toute la ville tout ce que Jésus avait fait pour lui.

39. "Return home and recount what God has done for you." The man went off and proclaimed throughout the whole town what Jesus had done for him.

40. Jésus, à son retour, fut accueilli par le foule, car tous l'attendaient.

40. When Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him.

41. Et voici que vint un homme, nommé Jaïre, qui était chef de la synagogue; tombant aux pieds de Jésus, il le suppliait d'entrer dans sa maison,

41. And a man named Jairus, an official of the synagogue, came forward. He fell at the feet of Jesus and begged him to come to his house,

42. parce qu'il avait une fille unique, d'environ douze ans, qui se mourait.

42. because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. As he went, the crowds almost crushed him.

43. Comme il s'y rendait, les foules l'étouffaient. Or une femme qui avait un flux de sang depuis douze ans et qui, après avoir dépensé tout son bien en médecins, n'avait pu être guérie par aucun,

43. And a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years, who (had spent her whole livelihood on doctors and) was unable to be cured by anyone,

44. s'approcha par derrière et toucha la houppe de son vêtement; et à l'instant son flux de sang s'arrêta.

44. came up behind him and touched the tassel on his cloak. Immediately her bleeding stopped.

45. Et Jésus dit : " Qui m'a touché? " Tous s'en défendant, Pierre dit : " Maître, la foule vous entoure et vous presse ! "

45. Jesus then asked, "Who touched me?" While all were denying it, Peter said, "Master, the crowds are pushing and pressing in upon you."

46. Mais Jésus dit : " Quelqu'un m'a touché, car j'ai senti qu'une vertu était sortie de moi. "

46. But Jesus said, "Someone has touched me; for I know that power has gone out from me."

47. Se voyant découverte, la femme vint toute tremblante se jeter à ses pieds, et elle raconta devant tout le peuple pour quel motif elle l'avait touché, et comment elle avait été guérie à l'instant.

47. When the woman realized that she had not escaped notice, she came forward trembling. Falling down before him, she explained in the presence of all the people why she had touched him and how she had been healed immediately.

48. Il lui dit : " Ma fille, ta foi t'a guérie; va en paix. "

48. He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you; go in peace."

49. Il parlait encore, lorsque quelqu'un de chez le chef de synagogue vient dire : " Ta fille est morte, n'importune plus le Maître. "

49. While he was still speaking, someone from the synagogue official's house arrived and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer."

50. Jésus, qui avait entendu, s'adressa à lui : " Ne crains pas, crois seulement et elle sera guérie. "

50. On hearing this, Jesus answered him, "Do not be afraid; just have faith and she will be saved."

51. Arrivé à la maison, il ne laissa personne entrer avec lui, si ce n'est Pierre, Jean et Jacques, et le père de l'enfant et la mère.

51. When he arrived at the house he allowed no one to enter with him except Peter and John and James, and the child's father and mother.

52. Or tous pleuraient et se lamentaient sur elle. Il dit : " Ne pleurez point; elle n'est pas morte, mais elle dort. "

52. All were weeping and mourning for her, when he said, "Do not weep any longer, for she is not dead, but sleeping."

53. Et ils se moquaient de lui, sachant bien qu'elle était morte.

53. And they ridiculed him, because they knew that she was dead.

54. Mais lui, la prenant par la main, dit à haute voix : " Enfant, lève-toi ! "

54. But he took her by the hand and called to her, "Child, arise!"

55. Et son esprit revint, et elle se leva à l'instant; et Jésus ordonna de lui donner à manger.

55. Her breath returned and she immediately arose. He then directed that she should be given something to eat.

56. Ses parents furent frappés de stupeur, et il leur recommanda de ne dire à personne ce qui était arrivé.

56. Her parents were astounded, and he instructed them to tell no one what had happened.
