Isaïe, 42

1. Voici mon serviteur, que je soutiens, mon élu, en qui mon âme se complaît; j'ai mis mon esprit sur lui ; il répandra la justice parmi les nations.

1. Here is my servant whom I uphold, my chosen one with whom I am pleased, Upon whom I have put my spirit; he shall bring forth justice to the nations,

2. Il ne criera point, il ne parlera pas haut, il ne fera pas entendre sa voix dans les rues.

2. Not crying out, not shouting, not making his voice heard in the street.

3. Il ne brisera pas le roseau froissé, et n'éteindra pas la mèche prête à mourir. Il annoncera la justice en vérité ;

3. A bruised reed he shall not break, and a smoldering wick he shall not quench,

4. il ne faiblira point et ne ce laissera point abattre; jusqu'à ce qu'il ait établi la justice sur la terre, et les îles seront dans l'attente de sa loi.

4. Until he establishes justice on the earth; the coastlands will wait for his teaching.

5. Ainsi parle le Dieu Yahweh, qui a créé les cieux et les a déployés, qui a étendu la terre et ses productions, qui donne la respiration au peuple qui l'habite; et le souffle à ceux qui la parcourent

5. Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spreads out the earth with its crops, Who gives breath to its people and spirit to those who walk on it:

6. Moi, Yahweh, je t'ai appelé dans la justice; et je t'ai pris par la main; je te garde et je fais de toi l'alliance du peuple; la lumière des nations ;

6. I, the LORD, have called you for the victory of justice, I have grasped you by the hand; I formed you, and set you as a covenant of the people, a light for the nations,

7. Pour ouvrir les yeux des aveugles; pour faire sortir de prison les captifs, du cachot ceux qui sont assis dans les ténèbres.

7. To open the eyes of the blind, to bring out prisoners from confinement, and from the dungeon, those who live in darkness.

8. Je suis Yahweh; c'est là mon nom, et je ne donnerai pas ma gloire à un autre, ni mon honneur aux idoles,

8. I am the LORD, this is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to idols.

9. Voici que les premières choses sont arrivées, et j'en annonce de nouvelles; avant qu'elles éclosent, je vous les fais entendre.

9. See, the earlier things have come to pass, new ones I now foretell; Before they spring into being, I announce them to you.

10. Chantez à Yahweh un cantique nouveau ; Chantez sa louange aux extrémités de la terre, vous qui naviguez sur la mer et qui la peuplez, vous, îles, et vos habitants !

10. Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise from the end of the earth: Let the sea and what fills it resound, the coastlands, and those who dwell in them.

11. Que le désert et ses villes élèvent la voix, les campements habités par Cédar ! Que les habitants de Séla tressaillent d'allégresse ; que du sommet des montagnes, ils poussent des cris de joie !

11. Let the steppe and its cities cry out, the villages where Kedar dwells; Let the inhabitants of Sela exult, and shout from the top of the mountains.

12. Qu'ils rendent gloire à Yahweh, qu'ils publient sa louange dans les îles!

12. Let them give glory to the LORD, and utter his praise in the coastlands.

13. Car Yahweh sort comme un héros ; comme un guerrier, il réveille son ardeur il pousse le cri de guerre, un cri éclatant ; il déploie sa force contre ses ennemis.

13. The LORD goes forth like a hero, like a warrior he stirs up his ardor; He shouts out his battle cry, against his enemies he shows his might:

14. Longtemps je me suis tu, j'ai gardé le silence, je me suis contenu ; comme la femme qui enfante, je gémis, je soupire et je suis haletant.

14. I have looked away, and kept silence, I have said nothing, holding myself in; But now, I cry out as a woman in labor, gasping and panting.

15. Je désolerai les montagnes et les collines, et je dessècherai toute leur verdure ; je changerai les fleuves en îles, et je mettrai les lacs à sec.

15. I will lay waste mountains and hills, all their herbage I will dry up; I will turn the rivers into marshes, and the marshes I will dry up.

16. Je conduirai les aveugles par un chemin qu'ils ne connaissent pas, je les mènerai par des sentiers qu'ils ignorent ; je changerai devant eux les ténèbres en lumière, et les lieux montueux en plaine. Ces paroles, je les accomplirai; et je n'y manquerai point.

16. I will lead the blind on their journey; by paths unknown I will guide them. I will turn darkness into light before them, and make crooked ways straight. These things I do for them, and I will not forsake them.

17. Ils reculeront, ils seront couverts de honte; ceux qui se confient dans les idoles, qui disent aux images fondues "Vous êtes nos dieux !"

17. They shall be turned back in utter shame who trust in idols; Who say to molten images, "You are our gods."

18. Sourds, entendez; aveugles, ouvrez les yeux pour voir !

18. You who are deaf, listen, you who are blind, look and see!

19. Qui est aveugle, sinon mon serviteur; et sourd comme mon messager que j'envoie? Qui est aveugle comme celui dont j'avais fait mon ami, aveugle comme le serviteur de Yahweh?

19. Who is blind but my servant, or deaf like the messenger I send?

20. Tu as vu beaucoup de choses, et tu n'as rien retenu; il a eu ses oreilles ouvertes, et il n'a rien entendu.

20. You see many things without taking note; your ears are open, but without hearing.

21. Yahweh a daigné, à cause de sa justice, donner une loi grande et magnifique.

21. Though it pleased the LORD in his justice to make his law great and glorious,

22. Et voilà ce peuple pillé et dépouillé ! On les a tous enchaînés dans des cavernes, Ils ont été enfermés dans des cachots ; Ils sont au pillage, et personne qui les délivre; dépouillés, et personne qui dise : "Restitue !"

22. This is a people despoiled and plundered, all of them trapped in holes, hidden away in prisons. They are taken as booty, with no one to rescue them, as spoil, with no one to demand their return.

23. Qui de vous prêtera l'oreille à ces choses, y prendra garde et écoutera désormais?

23. Who of you gives ear to this? Who listens and pays heed for the time to come?

24. Qui a livré Jacob au pillage, et Israël aux spoliateurs? N'est-ce pas Yahweh, lui contre qui nous avons péché, lui dont ils n'ont pas voulu suivre les voies, et dont ils n'ont pas écouté la loi?

24. Who was it that gave Jacob to be plundered, Israel to the despoilers? Was it not the LORD, against whom we have sinned? In his ways they refused to walk, his law they disobeyed.

25. Il a versé sur eux le feu de son courroux, et les fureurs de la guerre; elle s'est allumée tout autour de lui, et il n'a pas compris; elle l'a consumé, et il n'y a point pris garde !

25. So he poured out wrath upon them, his anger, and the fury of battle; It blazed round about them, yet they did not realize, it burned them, but they took it not to heart.
