2 Kings, 2

1. This is what happened when Yahweh took Elijah up to heaven in the whirlwind: Elijah and Elisha set out from Gilgal,

1. An dem Tag, da der Herr Elija im Wirbelsturm in den Himmel aufnehmen wollte, ging Elija mit Elischa von Gilgal weg.

2. and Elijah said to Elisha, 'You stay here, for Yahweh is only sending me to Bethel.' But Elisha replied, 'As Yahweh lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you!' and they went down to Bethel.

2. Er sagte zu Elischa: Bleib hier; denn der Herr hat mich nach Bet-El gesandt. Doch Elischa erwiderte: So wahr der Herr lebt und so wahr du lebst: Ich verlasse dich nicht. So gingen sie nach Bet-El.

3. The brotherhood of prophets living at Bethel came out to meet Elisha and said, 'Do you know that Yahweh will carry your lord and master away today?' 'Yes, I know,' he said, 'be quiet.'

3. Dort kamen die Prophetenjünger, die in Bet-El waren, zu Elischa heraus und sagten zu ihm: Weißt du, dass der Herr heute deinen Meister über dein Haupt hinweg aufnehmen wird? Er antwortete: Auch ich weiß es. Seid still!

4. Elijah said, 'Elisha, you stay here, Yahweh is only sending me to Jericho.' But he replied, 'As Yahweh lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you!' and they went on to Jericho.

4. Elija aber sagte zu ihm: Bleib hier, Elischa; denn der Herr hat mich nach Jericho gesandt. Elischa erwiderte: So wahr der Herr lebt und so wahr du lebst: Ich verlasse dich nicht. So kamen sie nach Jericho.

5. The brotherhood of prophets living at Jericho went up to Elisha and said, 'Do you know that Yahweh will carry your lord and master away today?' 'Yes, I know,' he said, 'be quiet.'

5. Dort traten die Prophetenjünger, die in Jericho waren, an Elischa heran und sagten zu ihm: Weißt du, dass der Herr heute deinen Meister über dein Haupt hinweg aufnehmen wird? Er antwortete ihnen: Auch ich weiß es. Seid still!

6. Elijah said, 'Elisha, you stay here, Yahweh is only sending me to the Jordan.' But he replied, 'As Yahweh lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you!' And they went on together.

6. Elija aber bat ihn: Bleib hier; denn der Herr hat mich an den Jordan gesandt. Elischa erwiderte: So wahr der Herr lebt und so wahr du lebst: Ich verlasse dich nicht. So gingen beide miteinander.

7. Fifty of the brotherhood of prophets followed them, halting some distance away as the two of them stood beside the Jordan.

7. Fünfzig Prophetenjünger folgten ihnen und blieben dann seitwärts in einiger Entfernung stehen. Die beiden traten an den Jordan.

8. Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water; and the water divided to left and right, and the two of them crossed over dry-shod.

8. Hier nahm Elija seinen Mantel, rollte ihn zusammen und schlug mit ihm auf das Wasser. Dieses teilte sich nach beiden Seiten und sie schritten trockenen Fußes hindurch.

9. When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, 'Make your request. What can I do for you before I am snatched away from you?' Elisha answered, 'Let me inherit a double share of your spirit.'

9. Als sie drüben angekommen waren, sagte Elija zu Elischa: Sprich eine Bitte aus, die ich dir erfüllen soll, bevor ich von dir weggenommen werde. Elischa antwortete: Möchten mir doch zwei Anteile deines Geistes zufallen.

10. 'Your request is difficult,' Elijah said. 'If you see me while I am being snatched away from you, it will be as you ask; if not, it will not be so.'

10. Elija entgegnete: Du hast etwas Schweres erbeten. Wenn du siehst, wie ich von dir weggenommen werde, wird es dir zuteil werden. Sonst aber wird es nicht geschehen.

11. Now as they walked on, talking as they went, a chariot of fire appeared and horses of fire coming between the two of them; and Elijah went up to heaven in the whirlwind.

11. Während sie miteinander gingen und redeten, erschien ein feuriger Wagen mit feurigen Pferden und trennte beide voneinander. Elija fuhr im Wirbelsturm zum Himmel empor.

12. Elisha saw it, and shouted, 'My father! My father! Chariot of Israel and its chargers!' Then he lost sight of him, and taking hold of his own clothes he tore them in half.

12. Elischa sah es und rief laut: Mein Vater, mein Vater! Wagen Israels und sein Lenker! Als er ihn nicht mehr sah, fasste er sein Gewand und riss es mitten entzwei.

13. He picked up Elijah's cloak which had fallen, and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.

13. Dann hob er den Mantel auf, der Elija entfallen war, kehrte um und trat an das Ufer des Jordan.

14. He took Elijah's cloak and struck the water. 'Where is Yahweh, the God of Elijah?' he cried. As he struck the water it divided to right and left, and Elisha crossed over.

14. Er nahm den Mantel, der Elija entfallen war, schlug mit ihm auf das Wasser und rief: Wo ist der Herr, der Gott des Elija? Als er auf das Wasser schlug, teilte es sich nach beiden Seiten und Elischa ging hinüber.

15. The brotherhood of prophets saw him in the distance, and said, 'The spirit of Elijah has come to rest on Elisha'; they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

15. Die Prophetenjünger von Jericho, die in der Nähe standen, sahen ihn und sagten: Der Geist des Elija ruht auf Elischa. Sie kamen ihm entgegen und warfen sich vor ihm zur Erde nieder.

16. 'Look,' they said, 'your servants have fifty strong men with them, let them go and look for your master; the Spirit of Yahweh may have taken him up and thrown him down on a mountain or into a valley.' 'Send no one,' he replied.

16. Dann sagten sie zu ihm: Unter deinen Knechten sind fünfzig starke Männer. Sie sollen auf die Suche nach deinem Meister gehen. Der Geist des Herrn könnte ihn fortgetragen und auf einem der Berge oder in einem der Täler niedergesetzt haben. Doch Elischa entgegnete: Schickt niemand!

17. But they so shamed him with their insistence that he consented. So they sent fifty men who searched for three days without finding him.

17. Als sie aber heftig darauf bestanden, sagte er: Schickt sie also hin! Sie schickten fünfzig Mann aus und diese suchten drei Tage lang. Da sie ihn nicht fanden,

18. They then came back to Elisha who had stayed in Jericho; he said, 'Didn't I tell you not to go?'

18. kehrten sie zu Elischa zurück. Er hielt sich noch in Jericho auf und sagte zu ihnen: Habe ich euch nicht gesagt: Ihr sollt nicht hingehen?

19. The people of the city said to Elisha, 'The city is pleasant to live in, as my lord indeed can see, but the water is foul and the country suffers from miscarriages.'

19. Die Männer der Stadt sagten zu Elischa: Unser Herr sieht, dass man in dieser Stadt gut wohnen kann; nur das Wasser ist ungesund und in der Gegend gibt es viele Fehlgeburten.

20. 'Bring me a new bowl,' he said, 'and put some salt in it.' They brought it to him.

20. Elischa befahl: Bringt mir eine neue Schüssel und schüttet Salz hinein! Man brachte sie ihm

21. Then he went to the source of the water, threw salt into it and said, 'Yahweh says this, "I make this water wholesome: neither death nor miscarriage shall come from it any more." '

21. und er ging zur Wasserquelle und warf das Salz hinein mit den Worten: So spricht der Herr: Ich mache dieses Wasser gesund. Es wird keinen Tod und keine Fehlgeburt mehr verursachen.

22. And the water became wholesome, as it is today, exactly as Elisha had said it would.

22. Daher ist das Wasser bis zum heutigen Tag gesund, wie es Elischa vorausgesagt hatte.

23. From there he went up to Bethel, and while he was on the road, some small boys came out of the town and jeered at him. 'Hurry up, baldy!' they shouted. 'Come on up, baldy!'

23. Von dort ging er nach Bet-El. Während er den Weg hinaufstieg, kamen junge Burschen aus der Stadt und verspotteten ihn: Sie riefen ihm zu: Kahlkopf, komm herauf! Kahlkopf, komm herauf!

24. He turned round and looked at them; and he cursed them in the name of Yahweh. And two bears came out of the forest and savaged forty-two of the boys.

24. Er wandte sich um, sah sie an und verfluchte sie im Namen des Herrn. Da kamen zwei Bären aus dem Wald und zerrissen zweiundvierzig junge Leute.

25. From there he went on to Mount Carmel and then returned to Samaria.

25. Von dort ging er zum Berg Karmel und kehrte dann nach Samaria zurück.
