The new covenant is governed by the Spirit, while the old covenant was governed by the letter of the law.

This verse is quoted in Hebrews 8:8-12 to show that the new covenant established by Jesus Christ was prophesied by the prophet Jeremiah. Through it, those who are called can receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
