The new covenant is governed by the Spirit, while the old covenant was governed by the letter of the law.

This verse is quoted in Hebrews 8:8-12 to show that the new covenant established by Jesus Christ was prophesied by the prophet Jeremiah. This new covenant is superior to the old covenant established with Israel.

Through it, those who are called can receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
