Ezekiel, 20

1. In the seventh year, on the tenth day of the fifth month, some of the elders of Israel came to consult Yahweh and were sitting with me,

1. Im fünften Monat des siebten Jahres kamen am zehnten Tag des Monats einige von den Ältesten Israels, um den Herrn zu befragen. Sie setzten sich vor mir nieder.

2. when the word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,

2. Da erging das Wort des Herrn an mich:

3. 'Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel. Say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: Have you come to consult me? As I live, I will not be consulted by you -- declares the Lord Yahweh."

3. Menschensohn, rede mit den Ältesten Israels und sag zu ihnen: So spricht Gott, der Herr: Seid ihr gekommen, um mich zu befragen? So wahr ich lebe, ich lasse mich von euch nicht befragen - Spruch Gottes, des Herrn.

4. 'Are you ready to judge them? Are you ready to judge them, son of man? Confront them with the loathsome practices of their ancestors.

4. Willst du nicht über sie Gericht halten, Menschensohn, willst nicht du Gericht halten? Mach ihnen die Gräueltaten ihrer Väter bewusst

5. Say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: On the day when I chose Israel, when I pledged my word to the House of Jacob, I made myself known to them in Egypt; I pledged my word to them and said: I am Yahweh your God.

5. und sag zu ihnen: So spricht Gott, der Herr: An dem Tag, als ich Israel erwählt habe, erhob ich meine Hand, (um) den Nachkommen des Hauses Jakob (einen Eid zu leisten). Ich offenbarte mich ihnen in Ägypten. Ich erhob meine Hand (zum Schwur) und sprach: Ich bin der Herr, euer Gott.

6. That day I pledged them my word that I would bring them out of Egypt to a country which I had reconnoitred for them, a country flowing with milk and honey, and the loveliest of them all.

6. An jenem Tag erhob ich meine Hand (zum Schwur), dass ich sie aus Ägypten herausführe in ein Land, das ich für sie erkundete, in dem Milch und Honig fließen, ein Schmuckstück unter allen Ländern.

7. And I said to them: Each of you must reject the horrors which attract you; do not pollute yourselves with the foul idols of Egypt; I am Yahweh your God.

7. Und ich sagte zu ihnen: Ihr alle, werft die Götzen weg, an denen eure Augen hängen. Macht euch nicht unrein durch die Gräueltaten Ägyptens! Ich bin der Herr, euer Gott.

8. But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me. Not one of them rejected the horrors which attracted them; they did not give up the foul idols of Egypt. I then resolved to vent my fury on them, to sate my anger on them in Egypt.

8. Sie aber widersetzten sich mir und wollten nicht auf mich hören. Keiner warf die Götzen weg, an denen seine Augen hingen, und sie sagten sich nicht los von den Götzen Ägyptens. Da sagte ich: Ich will meinen Zorn über sie ausgießen und meinen Grimm an ihnen auslassen, mitten in Ägypten.

9. But respect for my own name kept me from letting it be profaned in the eyes of the nations among whom they were living, and before whom I had made myself known to them and promised to bring them out of Egypt.

9. Aber dann handelte ich um meines Namens willen anders; ich wollte ihn nicht entweihen vor den Augen der Völker, in deren Mitte sie lebten und vor deren Augen ich mich ihnen offenbarte, als ich sie aus Ägypten herausführte.

10. So I brought them out of Egypt and led them into the desert.

10. Ich führte sie aus Ägypten heraus, brachte sie in die Wüste

11. I gave them my laws and taught them my judgements, in whose observance people find life.

11. und gab ihnen meine Gesetze. Ich gab ihnen meine Rechtsvorschriften bekannt, die der Mensch befolgen muss, damit er durch sie am Leben bleibt.

12. And I also gave them my Sabbaths as a sign between me and them, so that they might know that I, Yahweh, am the one who sanctifies them.

12. Auch meine Sabbat-Tage gab ich ihnen zum Zeichen (des Bundes) zwischen mir und ihnen. Daran sollte man erkennen, dass ich, der Herr, Israel heilige.

13. The House of Israel, however, rebelled against me in the desert; they refused to keep my laws, they scorned my judgements, in whose observance people find life, and they grossly profaned my Sabbaths. I then resolved to vent my fury on them in the desert and destroy them.

13. Aber das Haus Israel widersetzte sich mir in der Wüste. Sie lebten nicht nach meinen Gesetzen und wiesen meine Rechtsvorschriften zurück, die der Mensch befolgen muss, damit er durch sie am Leben bleibt. Auch meine Sabbat-Tage entweihten sie völlig. Da sagte ich: Ich will in der Wüste über sie meinen Zorn ausgießen und sie vernichten.

14. But respect for my own name kept me from letting it be profaned in the eyes of the nations, before whom I had brought them out.

14. Aber ich handelte anders um meines Namens willen; ich wollte ihn nicht entweihen vor den Völkern, vor deren Augen ich sie (aus Ägypten) herausgeführt hatte.

15. Even so, I pledged them my word in the desert that I would not lead them to the country which I had given them, a country flowing with milk and honey, and the loveliest of them all,

15. Doch in der Wüste erhob ich meine Hand (zum Schwur), dass ich sie nicht in das Land bringe, das ich für sie bestimmt hatte, in das Land, wo Milch und Honig fließen, das Schmuckstück unter allen Ländern.

16. since they had scorned my judgements, had refused to keep my laws and had profaned my Sabbaths, their hearts being attached to foul idols.

16. Denn sie wiesen meine Rechtsvorschriften zurück, sie lebten nicht nach meinen Gesetzen und entweihten meine Sabbat-Tage, weil ihr Herz hinter den Götzen her war.

17. In spite of this, I took pity on them; I refrained from destroying them and did not make an end of them in the desert.

17. Aber mein Auge zeigte Mitleid mit ihnen: Ich rottete sie nicht völlig aus in der Wüste.

18. "I said to their children in the desert: Do not follow the laws of your ancestors, do not practise their judgements, do not defile yourselves with their foul idols.

18. Zu ihren Söhnen sagte ich in der Wüste: Lebt nicht nach den Gesetzen eurer Väter, achtet nicht auf ihre Rechtsvorschriften und macht euch nicht unrein an ihren Götzen!

19. I am Yahweh your God. Keep my laws, respect my judgements and practise them.

19. Ich bin der Herr, euer Gott. Lebt nach meinen Gesetzen, achtet auf meine Rechtsvorschriften und befolgt sie!

20. Keep my Sabbaths holy; let them be a sign between me and you, so that people may know that I am Yahweh your God.

20. Haltet meine Sabbat-Tage heilig; sie sollen das Zeichen (des Bundes) zwischen mir und euch sein. Daran wird man erkennen, dass ich, der Herr, euer Gott bin.

21. Their children, however, rebelled against me; they refused to keep my laws, they did not respect or practise my judgements, which must be practised by all who want to live; they profaned my Sabbaths. I then resolved to vent my fury on them, to sate my anger on them in the desert.

21. Aber die Söhne widersetzten sich mir. Sie lebten nicht nach meinen Gesetzen und sie beachteten und befolgten meine Rechtsvorschriften nicht, die der Mensch befolgen muss, damit er durch sie am Leben bleibt. Meine Sabbat-Tage entweihten sie. Da sagte ich: Ich werde in der Wüste meinen Zorn über sie ausgießen und meinen Grimm an ihnen auslassen.

22. But I restrained my hand; respect for my own name kept me from letting it be profaned in the eyes of the nations, before whom I had brought them out.

22. Aber ich zog meine Hand zurück und handelte anders, um meines Namens willen; ich wollte ihn nicht vor all den Völkern entweihen, vor deren Augen ich sie (aus Ägypten) herausgeführt hatte.

23. Once again, however, I pledged them my word that I would scatter them throughout the nations and disperse them in foreign countries,

23. Doch ich erhob in der Wüste meine Hand (zum Schwur), dass ich sie unter die Völker zerstreuen und in alle Länder vertreiben werde,

24. because they had not followed my judgements but had rejected my laws and profaned my Sabbaths, their eyes being fastened on the foul idols of their ancestors.

24. weil sie meine Rechtsvorschriften nicht befolgten, meine Gesetze ablehnten und meine Sabbat-Tage entweihten und weil ihre Augen hinter den Götzen ihrer Väter her waren.

25. And for this reason I gave them laws that were not good and judgements by which they could never live;

25. Auch gab ich ihnen Gesetze, die nicht gut waren, und Rechtsvorschriften, die es ihnen unmöglich machten, am Leben zu bleiben.

26. and I polluted them with their own offerings, making them sacrifice every first-born son in order to fill them with revulsion, so that they would know that I am Yahweh."

26. Ich machte sie unrein durch ihre Opfergaben; sie ließen nämlich alle Erstgeborenen durch das Feuer gehen. Ich wollte ihnen Entsetzen einjagen; denn sie sollten erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin.

27. 'For this reason, son of man, speak to the House of Israel. Say to them, "The Lord Yahweh says this: Here is another way by which your ancestors outraged me by their infidelity.

27. Darum sprich zum Haus Israel, Menschensohn, und sag zu ihnen: So spricht Gott, der Herr: Eure Väter haben mich auch dadurch verhöhnt, dass sie mir untreu wurden.

28. Once I had brought them into the country which I had pledged my word to give them, they then saw all sorts of high hills, all kinds of leafy trees, and there they performed their sacrifices and made offerings that provoked my anger; there they set out their pleasing smell and poured their libations.

28. Als ich sie in das Land gebracht hatte - ich hatte ja meine Hand erhoben (und geschworen), es ihnen zu geben -, schlachteten sie, sobald sie irgendeinen hohen Hügel und einen dichtbelaubten Baum sahen, dort ihre Opfer; dort brachten sie ihre ärgerlichen Gaben dar, legten ihre duftenden Spenden nieder, um mich zu beruhigen, und gossen dort ihre Trankopfer aus.

29. I then said to them: What is this high place where you go? And they gave, and still give it, the name of Bamah."

29. Da sagte ich zu ihnen: Was ist das schon, die Höhe, zu der ihr kommt? - Deshalb wird ein solcher Platz bis zum heutigen Tag Kulthöhe genannt.

30. 'So, say to the House of Israel, "The Lord Yahweh says this: If you are polluting yourselves as your ancestors did by fornicating with their horrors-

30. Darum sag zum Haus Israel: So spricht Gott, der Herr: Wie schon eure Väter, so macht auch ihr euch unrein und lauft in eurer Untreue ihren Götzen nach.

31. for by offering your gifts and by burning your children as sacrifices, you have been polluting yourselves with all your foul idols to this very day -- shall I let myself be consulted by you, House of Israel? As I live -- declares Lord Yahweh -- I shall not let myself be consulted by you.

31. Wenn ihr eure Gaben darbringt, eure Söhne durch das Feuer gehen lasst, wenn ihr euch bis zum heutigen Tag immer wieder unrein macht mit all euren Götzen, soll ich mich dann von euch befragen lassen, ihr vom Haus Israel? So wahr ich lebe - Spruch Gottes, des Herrn -, ich lasse mich von euch nicht befragen.

32. And what you sometimes imagine will never be so, when you say: We shall be like the peoples, the tribes of foreign lands, worshipping wood and stone.

32. Niemals soll geschehen, was euch eingefallen ist, als ihr sagtet: Wir wollen wie die anderen Völker sein, wie die Völkerstämme in anderen Ländern, und wollen Holz und Stein verehren.

33. As I live I swear it -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- I am the one who will reign over you, with a strong hand and outstretched arm, once my fury is sated.

33. So wahr ich lebe - Spruch Gottes, des Herrn: Ich will mit starker Hand und hoch erhobenem Arm über euch als König herrschen und dabei meinen Zorn über euch ausgießen.

34. With a strong hand and outstretched arm, once my fury is sated, I shall bring you back from the peoples and gather you again from the countries throughout which you have been scattered.

34. Ich will euch mit starker Hand und hoch erhobenem Arm aus den Völkern herausführen und aus den Ländern, in die ihr zerstreut seid, sammeln und dabei meinen Zorn über euch ausgießen.

35. I shall lead you into the desert of the nations and there I shall judge you face to face.

35. Ich bringe euch in die Wüste der Völker; dort trete ich euch von Angesicht zu Angesicht als Richter gegenüber.

36. As I judged your ancestors in the desert of Egypt, so will I judge you -- declares the Lord Yahweh.

36. Wie ich mit euren Vätern in der Wüste Ägyptens ins Gericht gegangen bin, so will ich auch mit euch ins Gericht gehen - Spruch Gottes, des Herrn.

37. I shall make you pass under the crook, bring you to respect the covenant

37. Ich lasse euch unter dem Hirtenstab an mir vorbeiziehen und zähle euch ab.

38. and rid you of the rebels who have revolted against me; I shall bring them out of the country where they are staying, but they will not enter the country of Israel, and you will know that I am Yahweh.

38. Die Abtrünnigen und alle, die sich gegen mich auflehnten, sondere ich von euch ab. Ich führe sie zwar aus dem Land, in dem sie als Fremde leben, heraus, in das Land Israel aber werden sie nicht kommen; dann werdet ihr erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin.

39. House of Israel, Lord Yahweh says this: Go on, all of you, worship your foul idols, but later we shall see if you don't listen to me! Then you will stop profaning my holy name with your offerings and your foul idols.

39. Ihr aber vom Haus Israel - so spricht Gott, der Herr -, geht doch alle und dient euren Götzen! Doch später werdet ihr auf mich hören und meinen heiligen Namen nicht mehr mit euren Opfergaben und mit euren Götzen entweihen.

40. For on my holy mountain, on the high mountain of Israel -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- is where the whole House of Israel, everyone in the country, will worship me. There I shall accept and there expect your presents, your choicest offering and all your consecrated gifts.

40. Denn auf meinem heiligen Berg, auf dem hohen Berg Israels - Spruch Gottes, des Herrn -, dort im Land wird mir das ganze Haus Israel dienen. Dort will ich sie gnädig annehmen und dort fordere ich eure Abgaben und Erstlingsopfer mit all euren heiligen Gaben.

41. I shall welcome you like a pleasing smell when I bring you back from the peoples and gather you from the countries throughout which you have been scattered, and through you I shall display my holiness for all the nations to see;

41. Beim beruhigenden Duft eurer Opfer will ich euch gnädig annehmen. Wenn ich euch aus den Völkern herausführe und aus den Ländern sammle, in die ihr zerstreut seid, werde ich mich vor den Augen der Völker an euch als heilig erweisen.

42. and you will know that I am Yahweh, when I bring you back to the soil of Israel, to the country which I pledged my word to give to your ancestors.

42. Ihr sollt erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin, wenn ich euch in das Land Israel bringe; denn ich habe meine Hand erhoben (zum Schwur), dieses Land euren Vätern zu geben.

43. There you will remember your past behaviour and all the actions by which you have defiled yourselves, and you will loathe yourselves for all the wrongs which you have committed.

43. Dort werdet ihr euch an euer Verhalten und an all eure Taten erinnern, durch die ihr euch unrein gemacht habt, und es wird euch ekeln vor euch selbst wegen all der bösen Taten, die ihr begangen habt.

44. And you will know that I am Yahweh, when I treat you as respect for my own name requires, and not as your wicked behaviour and corrupt actions deserve, House of Israel -- declares the Lord Yahweh." '

44. Ihr werdet erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin, wenn ich um meines Namens willen so an euch handle und nicht nach eurem verkehrten Verhalten und nach euren verwerflichen Taten, ihr vom Haus Israel - Spruch Gottes, des Herrn.
