2 Chroniques, 11
1. De retour à Jérusalem, Roboam rassembla la maison de Juda et de Benjamin, cent quatre-vingt mille guerriers d'élite, pour qu'ils combattissent contre Israël, afin de ramener le royaume à Roboam.
1. On his arrival in Jerusalem Rehoboam gathered together the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand seasoned warriors, to have them fight against Israel and restore the kingdom to him.
2. Mais la parole de Yahweh fut adressée à Sémaïas, homme de Dieu, en ces termes :
2. However, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, a man of God:
3. "Parle à Roboam, fils de Salomon, roi de Juda, et à tout Israël en Juda et en Benjamin, en disant :
3. "Say to Rehoboam, son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the Israelites in Judah and Benjamin:
4. Ainsi dit Yahweh: Ne montez pas et ne faites pas la guerre à vos frères! Retournez chacun dans votre maison, car c'est par moi que cette chose est arrivée." Ils écoutèrent les paroles de Yahweh, et ils s'en retournèrent, sans marcher contre Jéroboam.
4. 'Thus says the LORD: You must not march out to fight against your brothers. Let every man return home, for what has occurred I have brought about.'" They obeyed this message of the LORD and gave up the expedition against Jeroboam.
5. Roboam résida à Jérusalem, et il bâtit des villes fortes en Juda.
5. Rehoboam took up residence in Jerusalem and built fortified cities in Judah.

8. Geth, Marésa, Zipli, Aduram,

9. Lachis, Azéca, Saraa,
9. Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,
10. Aïalon et Hébron, villes fortes situées en Juda et en Benjamin.
10. Zorah, Aijalon, and Hebron; these were fortified cities in Judah and Benjamin.
11. Il mit les forteresses en état de défense et il y plaça des commandants, ainsi que des magasins de vivres, d'huile et de vin.
11. Then he strengthened the fortifications and put commanders in them, with supplies of food, oil and wine.
12. Il mit dans chaque ville des boucliers et des lances, et il les rendit très fortes. Juda et Benjamin étaient a lui.
12. In every city were shields and spears, and he made them very strong. Thus Judah and Benjamin remained his.
13. Les prêtres et les lévites qui se trouvaient dans tout Israël vinrent de tous leurs territoires se présenter à Roboam ;
13. Now the priests and Levites throughout Israel presented themselves to him from all parts of their land,
14. car les fils de Lévi abandonnèrent terres pâturages et leurs propriétés, et allaient en Juda et à Jérusalem, parce que Jéroboam avec ses fils les excluait des fonctions sacerdotales en l'honneur de Yahweh,
14. for the Levites left their assigned pasture lands and their holdings and came to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons repudiated them as priests of the LORD.
15. et qu'il avait établi des prêtres pour les hauts lieux, pour les boucs et pour les veaux qu'il avait faits.
15. In their place, he himself appointed priests for the high places and satyrs and calves he had made.
16. A leur suite, ceux de toutes les tribus d'Israël qui appliquaient leur coeur à chercher Yahweh, le Dieu d'Israël, vinrent à Jérusalem pour sacrifier à Yahweh le Dieu de leurs pères.
16. After them, all those of the Israelite tribes who firmly desired to seek the LORD, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
17. Ils donnèrent ainsi de la force au royaume de Juda et affermirent Roboam, fils de Salomon, pendant trois ans; car ils marchèrent pendant trois ans dans la voie de David et de Salomon.
17. Thus they strengthened the kingdom of Judah and made Rehoboam, son of Solomon, prevail for three years; for they walked in the way of David and Solomon three years.
18. Roboam prit pour femme Mahalath, fille de Jérimoth, fils de David, et d'Abihaïl fille d'Eliab, fils d'Isaï.
18. Rehoboam took to himself as wife Mahalath, daughter of Jerimoth, son of David and of Abihail, daughter of Eliab, son of Jesse.
19. Elle lui enfanta des fils : Jéhus, Somoria et Zom.
19. She bore him sons: Jehush, Shemariah and Zaham.
20. Après elle, il prit Maacha. fille d'Absalom, qui lui enfanta Abia, Ethaï, Ziza et Salomith.
20. After her, he married Maacah, daughter of Absalom, who bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza and Shelomith.
21. Roboam aimait Maacha, fille d'Absalom, plus que toutes ses femmes et ses concubines; car il eut dix-huit femmes et soixante concubines, et il engendra vingt-huit fils et soixante filles.
21. Rehoboam loved Maacah, daughter of Absalom, more than all his other wives and concubines; he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he fathered twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.
22. Roboam donna le premier rang à Abia, fils de Maacha, pour qu'il fût chef parmi ses frères, car il voulait le faire roi.
22. Rehoboam constituted Abijah, son of Maacah, commander among his brothers, for he intended to make him king.
23. Il dispersa habilement tous ses fils dans toutes les contrées de Juda et de Benjamin, dans toutes les villes fortes ; il leur fournit des vivres en abondance et demanda pour eux une multitude de femmes.
23. He acted prudently, distributing various of his sons throughout all the districts of Judah and Benjamin, in all the fortified cities; and he furnished them with copious provisions and sought an abundance of wives for them.
