1. Moïse parla aux enfants d'Israël selon tout ce que Yahweh lui avait ordonné:

1. Moses then gave the Israelites these instructions, just as the LORD had ordered him.

2. Moïse parla aux chefs des tribus des enfants d'Israël, en disant: «Voici ce que Yahweh ordonne:

2. Moses said to the heads of the Israelite tribes, "This is what the LORD has commanded:

3. Si un homme fait un voeu à Yahweh ou s'il fait un serment pour s'imposer à soi-même un engagement, il ne violera point sa parole; tout ce qui est sorti de sa bouche, il le fera.

3. When a man makes a vow to the LORD or binds himself under oath to a pledge of abstinence, he shall not violate his word, but must fulfill exactly the promise he has uttered.

4. Si une femme, encore jeune fille dans la maison de son père, fait un voeu à Yahweh et se lie par un engagement,

4. "When a woman, while still a maiden in her father's house, makes a vow to the LORD, or binds herself to a pledge,

5. et que son père apprenne son voeu et l'engagement qu'elle s'est imposé à elle-même, et que son père garde le silence envers elle, tous ses voeux qu'elle aura faits et tout engagement qu'elle s'est imposé à elle-même seront valables;

5. if her father learns of her vow or the pledge to which she bound herself and says nothing to her about it, then any vow or any pledge she has made remains valid.

6. mais si, le jour où il en a connaissance, son père la désavoue, tous ses voeux et tous les engagements qu'elle s'est imposé à elle-même seront sans valeur; et Yahweh lui pardonnera, parce que son père l'a désavouée.

6. But if on the day he learns of it her father expresses to her his disapproval, then any vow or any pledge she has made becomes null and void; and the LORD releases her from it, since her father has expressed to her his disapproval.

7. Si elle se marie, et que pèsent sur elle ses voeux ou une parole imprudemment sortie de ses lèvres par laquelle elle s'est imposé à elle-même un engagement, et si son mari, l'apprenant, garde le silence envers elle le jour où il l'apprendra,

7. "If she marries while under a vow or under a rash pledge to which she bound herself,

8. ses voeux seront valables, ainsi que ses engagements qu'elle s'est imposé à elle-même;

8. and her husband learns of it, yet says nothing to her that day about it, then the vow or pledge she had made remains valid.

9. mais si, le jour où il l'apprend, son mari la désavoue, il rend nuls son voeu qui pèse sur elle et la parole imprudemment sortie de ses lèvres par laquelle elle s'est imposé à elle-même un engagement; et Yahweh lui pardonnera.

9. But if on the day he learns of it her husband expresses to her his disapproval, he thereby annuls the vow she had made or the rash pledge to which she had bound herself, and the LORD releases her from it.

10. le voeu d'une femme veuve ou répudiée, tout engagement qu'elle s'est imposé à elle-même, seront valables pour elle.

10. The vow of a widow or of a divorced woman, or any pledge to which such a woman binds herself, is valid.

11. Si c'est dans la maison de son mari qu'une femme a fait un voeu ou s'est imposé à elle-même un engagement par un serment,

11. "If it is in her husband's house that she makes a vow or binds herself under oath to a pledge,

12. et que son mari, l'apprenant, garde le silence envers elle et ne la désavoue pas, tous ses voeux seront valables, ainsi que tous les engagements qu'elle s'est imposé à elle-même;

12. and her husband learns of it yet says nothing to express to her his disapproval, then any vow or any pledge she has made remains valid.

13. mais si, le jour où il l'apprend, son mari les annule, tout ce qui est sorti de ses lèvres, voeux ou engagements, sera sans valeur: son mari les a annulés; et Yahweh lui pardonnera.

13. But if on the day he learns of them her husband annuls them, then whatever she has expressly promised in her vow or in her pledge becomes null and void; since her husband has annulled them, the LORD releases her from them.

14. Tout voeu et tout serment par lequel elle s'engage à affliger son âme, son mari peut les ratifier et son mari peut les annuler.

14. "Any vow or any pledge that she makes under oath to mortify herself, her husband can either allow to remain valid or render null and void.

15. Si son mari garde d'un jour à l'autre le silence envers elle, il ratifie ainsi tous ses voeux ou tous ses engagements qui pèsent sur elle; il les ratifie, parce qu'il a gardé le silence envers elle le jour où il l'a appris.

15. But if her husband, day after day, says nothing at all to her about them, he thereby allows as valid any vow or any pledge she has made; he has allowed them to remain valid, because on the day he learned of them he said nothing to her about them.

16. S'il les annule après le jour où il l'a appris, il portera l'iniquité de sa femme.»

16. If, however, he countermands them some time after he first learned of them, he is responsible for her guilt."

17. Telles sont les lois que Yahweh prescrivit à Moïse, entre un mari et sa femme, entre un père et sa fille, lorsqu'elle est jeune encore et dans la maison de son père.

17. These are the statutes which the LORD prescribed through Moses concerning the relationship between a husband and his wife, as well as between a father and his daughter while she is still a maiden in her father's house.
