Deutéronome, 29

1. Voici les paroles de l'alliance que Yahweh ordonna àMoïse de conclure avec les enfants d'Israël au pays deMoab, outre l'alliance qu'il avait conclue avec eux en Horeb.

1. Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, "You have seen all that the LORD did in the land of Egypt before your very eyes to Pharaoh and all his servants and to all his land;

2. Moïse convoqua tout Israël et leur dit «Vousavez vu tout ce que Yahweh a fait sous vos yeux, dans le paysd'Egypte, à Pharaon, à tous ses serviteurs età tout son pays,

2. the great testings your own eyes have seen, and those great signs and wonders.

3. les grandes épreuves que tes yeux ont vues, ces signeset ces grands prodiges.

3. But not even at the present day has the LORD yet given you a mind to understand, or eyes to see, or ears to hear.

4. Mais Yahweh ne vous a pas donné, jusqu'à ce jour,un coeur qui comprenne, des yeux qui voient, des oreilles quientendent.

4. 'I led you for forty years in the desert. Your clothes did not fall from you in tatters nor your sandals from your feet;

5. Je vous ai conduits pendant quarante ans dans le désert;vos vêtements ne sont pas usés sur vous, et tachaussure ne s'est pas usée à ton pied;

5. bread was not your food, nor wine or beer your drink. Thus you should know that I, the LORD, am your God.'

6. vous n'avez pas mangé de pain, et vous n'avez bu ni vinni cervoise, afin que vous puissiez connaître que je suisYahweh, votre Dieu.

6. When we came to this place, Sihon, king of Heshbon, and Og, king of Bashan, came out to engage us in battle, but we defeated them

7. Vous êtes ainsi arrivés dans ce lieu.Séhon, roi de Hésebon, et Og, roi de Basan, sontsortis à notre rencontre, pour nous combattre, et nous lesavons battus.

7. and took over their land, which we then gave as a heritage to the Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh.

8. Nous avons pris leur pays, et nous l'avons donné enpropriété aux Rubénites, aux Gadites età la moitié de la tribu des Manassites.

8. Keep the terms of this covenant, therefore, and fulfill them, that you may succeed in whatever you do.

9. Observez donc les paroles de cette alliance et mettez-les enpratique, afin de réussir dans tout ce que vous ferez.

9. "You are all now standing before the LORD, your God--your chiefs and judges, your elders and officials, and all of the men of Israel,

10. Vous vous présentez tous aujourd'hui devant Yahweh,votre Dieu,vos chefs, vos tribus, vos anciens, vos officiers,tous les hommes d'Israël,

10. together with your wives and children and the aliens who live in your camp, down to those who hew wood and draw water for you--

11. vos enfants, vos femmes et l'étranger qui est au milieude ton camp, depuis celui qui coupe ton bois jusqu'à celuiqui puise ton eau:

11. that you may enter into the covenant of the LORD, your God, which he concluded with you today under this sanction of a curse;

12. tu te présentes pour entrer dans l'alliance de Yahweh,ton Dieu, et dans son serment, alliance que Yahweh, ton Dieu,conclut en ce jour avec toi,

12. so that he may now establish you as his people and he may be your God, as he promised you and as he swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

13. pour t'établir aujourd'hui comme son peuple etêtre lui-même ton Dieu, comme il te l'a dit et commeil l'a juré à tes pères, Abraham, Isaac etJacob.

13. But it is not with you alone that I am making this covenant, under this sanction of a curse;

14. Ce n'est point avec vous seuls que je conclus cette alliance,et que je fais ce serment;

14. it is just as much with those who are not here among us today as it is with those of us who are now here present before the LORD, our God.

15. mais c'est avec quiconque se tient ici aujourd'hui avec nousdevant Yahweh, notre Dieu, et avec quiconque n'est pas ici avecnous en ce jour.

15. "You know in what surroundings we lived in the land of Egypt and what we passed by in the nations we traversed,

16. Vous savez, en effet, comment nous avons habité dans lepays d'Egypte, et comment nous avons passé au milieu desnations parmi lesquelles vous avez passé:

16. and you saw the loathsome idols of wood and stone, of gold and silver, that they possess.

17. vous avez vu leurs abominations et leur idoles, bois etpierre, argent et or, qui sont chez elles.

17. Let there be, then, no man or woman, no clan or tribe among you, who would now turn away their hearts from the LORD, our God, to go and serve these pagan gods! Let there be no root that would bear such poison and wormwood among you.

18. Qu'il n'y ait donc parmi vous ni homme, ni femme, ni famille,ni tribu, dont le coeur se détourne aujourd'hui de Yahweh,notre Dieu, pour aller servir les dieux de ces nations; qu'il n'yait point parmi vous de racine produisant du poison et del'absinthe.

18. If any such person, upon hearing the words of this curse, should beguile himself into thinking that he can safely persist in his stubbornness of heart, as though to sweep away both the watered soil and the parched ground,

19. Que personne, en entendant les paroles de ce serment, ne seflatte dans son coeur, en disant: «J'aurai la paix, alorsmême que je marcherai dans l'endurcissement de moncoeur,» de sorte que celui qui est assouvi entraînecelui qui a soif.

19. the LORD will never consent to pardon him. Instead, the LORD'S wrath and jealousy will flare up against that man, and every curse mentioned in this book will alight on him. The LORD will blot out his name from under the heavens

20. Yahweh ne consentira pas à pardonner à cethomme; mais alors la colère et la jalousie de Yahwehs'enflammeront contre cet homme, toutes les malédictionsécrites dans ce livre reposeront sur lui, et Yahweheffacera son nom de dessous les cieux.

20. and will single him out from all the tribes of Israel for doom, in keeping with all the curses of the covenant inscribed in this book of the law.

21. Yahweh le séparera, pour le livrer au malheur, detoutes les tribus d'Israël, selon toutes lesmalédictions de l'alliance écrite dans ce livre dela loi.

21. "Future generations, your own descendants who will rise up after you, as well as the foreigners who will come here from far-off lands, when they see the calamities of this land and the ills with which the LORD has smitten it--

22. La génération à venir, vos enfants quinaîtront après vous, et l'étranger quiviendra d'une terre lointaine, -- à la vue des plaies dece pays et de ses maladies, dont Yahweh l'aura frappé,

22. all its soil being nothing but sulphur and salt, a burnt-out waste, unsown and unfruitful, without a blade of grass, destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in his furious wrath--

23. du soufre et du sel, de l'embrasement de toute cette terre,qui ne sera pas ensemencée, ne produira pas de fruits, surlaquelle ne croîtra aucune herbe, comme il arriva aubouleversement de Sodome, de Gomorrhe, d'Adama et de Seboïm,que Yahweh bouleversa dans sa colère et dans safureur,

23. they and all the nations will ask, 'Why has the LORD dealt thus with this land? Why this fierce outburst of wrath?'

24. -- toutes ces nations diront: «Pourquoi Yahweh a-t-ilainsi traité ce pays? D'où vient l'ardeur de cettegrande colère?»

24. And the answer will be, 'Because they forsook the covenant which the LORD, the God of their fathers, had made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,

25. Et l'on dira: «C'est parce qu'ils ont abandonnél'alliance de Yahweh, le Dieu de leurs pères, qu'il avaitconclue avec eux, lorsqu'il les fit sortir du pays d'Egypte;

25. and they went and served other gods and adored them, gods whom they did not know and whom he had not let fall to their lot:

26. ils sont allés servir d'autres dieux et se prosternerdevant eux, des dieux qu'ils ne connaissent pas et que Yahweh neleur avait pas donnés en partage.

26. that is why the LORD was angry with this land and brought on it all the imprecations listed in this book;

27. La colère de Yahweh s'est enflammée contre cepays, et il a fait venir sur lui toutes les malédictionsécrites dans ce livre.

27. in his furious wrath and tremendous anger the LORD uprooted them from their soil and cast them out into a strange land, where they are today.'

28. Yahweh les a arrachés de leur sol avec colère,avec fureur et avec une grande indignation, et il les ajetés sur une autre terre, comme on le voitaujourd'hui.»

28. (Both what is still hidden and what has already been revealed concern us and our descendants forever, that we may carry out all the words of this law.)

29. Les choses cachées sont à Yahweh, notre Dieu;les choses révélées sont pour nous et pournos enfants, à jamais, afin que nous mettions en pratiquetoutes les paroles de cette loi.
