Ezequiel, 1

1. El año treinta, el día quinto del cuarto mes, encontrándome entre los desterrados, a orillas del río Quebar, se abrió el cielo y contemplé visiones divinas.

1. On the fifth day of the fourth month of the thirtieth year when I was with the exiles by the river Kebar, the heavens opened and I had visions from Yahweh.

2. On the fifth of the month (it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiakin)

3. la palabra de Yavé fue dirigida al sacerdote Ezequiel, hijo de Buzi, en el país de los caldeos, a orillas del río Quebar. Yavé puso su mano sobre mí.

3. the word of Yahweh came to Ezekiel, son of Buzi, the priest, in the land of the Chaldeans by the banks of the Kebar. There the hand of Yahweh was upon me.

4. Yo miré: un viento huracanado venía del norte. Vi una gran nube: En medio de ella un fuego ardiente irradiaba luz, y el centro era como de metal incandescente.

4. I looked: a windstorm came from the north bringing a great cloud. A fiery light inside it lit up all around it, while at the center there was something like a glowing metal.

5. En medio del fuego había cuatro seres vivos con forma humana.

5. In the center were what appeared to be four creatures with the same form;

6. Sin embargo, cada uno tenía cuatro caras y cuatro alas.

6. but each had four faces and four wings.

7. Sus piernas eran rectas, con pezuñas como las de buey; brillaban como bronce pulido.

7. Their legs were straight and their feet were like those of a calf, shining like polished bronze.

8. Under their wings (on their four sides) they had human hands. The wings of one

9. se tocaban unas con otras. Al andar no se volvían a ningún lado: iban derecho siguiendo una de sus caras.

9. touched those of the other. Their faces did not turn as they advanced, because they were able to go forward in any of the four directions of their faces.

10. Vistos de frente, los cuatro seres tenían aspecto humano, pero la cara derecha de su cuerpo era cara de león, y su cara izquierda, cara de toro. Los cuatro tenían tambiénuna cara de águila.

10. I saw they had human faces; but each one also had the face of a lion on the right, and on the left the face of an ox, and all four had the face of an eagle.

11. Sus alas estaban desplegadas hacia arriba; cada uno tenía dos alas que se juntaban con las de sus compañeros, y dos alas que le cubrían el cuerpo.

11. Their wings were spread upwards. Each had two wings meeting those of its neighbor and two covering its body; having four faces they could advance in any of the four directions.

12. Cada uno de ellos iba derecho siguiendo una de sus caras, iban hacia donde el espíritu los empujaba y al caminar no se daban vuelta.

12. Wherever the spirit would go, they went without turning as they advanced.

13. Entre los seres había como carbones ardientes: se diría que había un baile de antorchas entre esos seres; el fuego iluminaba, y del fuego surgían relámpagos.

13. Between these creatures could be seen glowing coals like torches moving between them. The fire blazed and flashed from thunderbolts.

14. Esos seres iban y venían como el relámpago.

14. The creatures ran to and fro like thunderbolts.

15. Al mirar bien a esos seres, vi que, en el suelo, había una rueda al lado de cada uno de ellos.

15. While I looked at the creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each of them,

16. Esas ruedas centelleaban como piedras preciosas, y las cuatro tenían la misma forma. Cada rueda era doble: parecía como dos ruedas entrecruzadas.

16. glittering as if made of chrysolite. The four wheels had the same shape: indeed each was double - two wheels placed crosswise,

17. De ese modo podían avanzar en las cuatro direcciones, sin tener que dar vuelta.

17. so they could follow any of the four directions without turning as they went.

18. Tenían una llanta muy grande y de aspecto aterrador, porque las cuatro tenían ojos por todo el derredor.

18. Their rims were lofty and looked terrifying, and the four of them were covered with eyes all the way round.

19. Cuando los seres avanzaban, las ruedas avanzaban al lado de ellos; cuando los seres se elevaban desde la tierra, las ruedas también se elevaban.

19. When the creatures moved forward the wheels moved along beside them and when the creatures rose from the ground the wheels rose, too.

20. Los seres iban adonde el Espíritu quería, y las ruedas también iban allá porque el espíritu que estaba en los seres estaba también en las ruedas.

20. Wherever the spirit was to go, there the creatures went and the wheels went with them for the spirit of the creatures was also in the wheels.

21. Cuando ellos avanzaban, éstas avanzaban; cuando se detenían, se detenían éstas; cuando se elevaban desde la tierra, las ruedas igual se elevaban, porque el espíritu del ser estaba también en cada una de las ruedas.

21. When the creatures moved forward they did, too, stopping when they stopped, rising above the ground when they did, for the spirit of the creatures was in the wheels.

22. Por encima de los seres se veía una como plataforma de cristal resplandeciente;

22. Over the heads of the creatures was a kind of platform; it looked like crystal.

23. bajo la plataforma sus alas se erguían paralelas unas a otras .

23. Under the platform their wings were straight, one parallel to the other. (Each creature had two that covered its body).

24. Oí entonces el ruido de sus alas, como el ruido de aguas caudalosas, como la voz del Dios Todopoderoso. Cuando caminaban se sentía un ruido como de tempestad, como el estruendo de una multitud; cuando se detenían replegaban sus alas.

24. I heard the noise of their wings when they moved, similar to the roar of many waters, similar to the voice of the Most High, the noise of a multitude or of a camp. When they were not moving they lowered their wings.

25. Un ruido se oía desde la plataforma que estaba encima de sus cabezas.

25. I heard a noise above the platform over their heads.

26. Sobre ésta se veía como una piedra de zafiro en forma de trono y, en esta forma de trono, a un ser que tenía una apariencia humana en su parte superior.

26. Above it was a throne resembling a sapphire and high on this throne was a figure similar to that of a man. Then I saw a light as of glowing bronze as if fire enveloped him

27. Lo vi como rodeado de metal incandescente, sumergido en el fuego que proyectaba luz.

27. from his waist upwards. And from his waist downwards it was as if fire gave radiance around him.

28. La luz que lo rodeaba tenía el aspecto del arcoiris que se ve en las nubes en los días de lluvia. Esa visión era una imagen de la Gloria de Yavé, cuando lo vi me tiré de bruces al suelo; oí entonces una voz que me habló.

28. The surrounding light was like a rainbow in the clouds after a day of rain. This vision was the likeness of Yahweh's Glory. On seeing it I fell on my face and then I heard a voice speaking.
