1. Finally, brothers, pray for us that the Lord's message may spread quickly, and be received with honour as it was among you;

1. Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed on and triumph, as it did among you,

2. and pray that we may be preserved from bigoted and evil people, for not everyone has faith.

2. and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for not all have faith.

3. You can rely on the Lord, who will give you strength and guard you from the evil One,

3. But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from evil.

4. and we, in the Lord, have every confidence in you, that you are doing and will go on doing all that we tell you.

4. And we have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will do the things which we command.

5. May the Lord turn your hearts towards the love of God and the perseverance of Christ.

5. May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.

6. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we urge you, brothers, to keep away from any of the brothers who lives an undisciplined life, not in accordance with the tradition you received from us.

6. Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is living in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us.

7. You know how you should take us as your model: we were not undisciplined when we were with you,

7. For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us; we were not idle when we were with you,

8. nor did we ever accept food from anyone without paying for it; no, we worked with unsparing energy, night and day, so as not to be a burden on any of you.

8. we did not eat any one's bread without paying, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you.

9. This was not because we had no right to be, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to imitate.

9. It was not because we have not that right, but to give you in our conduct an example to imitate.

10. We urged you when we were with you not to let anyone eat who refused to work.

10. For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: If any one will not work, let him not eat.

11. Now we hear that there are some of you who are living lives without any discipline, doing no work themselves but interfering with other people's.

11. For we hear that some of you are living in idleness, mere busybodies, not doing any work.

12. In the Lord Jesus Christ, we urge and call on people of this kind to go on quietly working and earning the food that they eat.

12. Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work in quietness and to earn their own living.

13. My brothers, never slacken in doing what is right.

13. Brethren, do not be weary in well-doing.

14. If anyone refuses to obey what I have written in this letter, take note of him and have nothing to do with him, so that he will be ashamed of himself,

14. If any one refuses to obey what we say in this letter, note that man, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed.

15. though you are not to treat him as an enemy, but to correct him as a brother.

15. Do not look on him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.

16. May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with you all.

16. Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in all ways. The Lord be with you all.

17. This greeting is in my own hand-PAUL. It is the mark of genuineness in every letter; this is my own writing.

17. I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. This is the mark in every letter of mine; it is the way I write.

18. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

18. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
