Isaiah, 7

1. In the reign of Ahaz son of Jotham, son of Uzziah king of Judah, Razon king of Aram advanced on Jerusalem with Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel, to attack it; but he was unable to attack it.

1. In der Zeit, als Ahas, der Sohn Jotams, des Sohnes Usijas, König von Juda war, zogen Rezin, der König von Aram, und Pekach, der Sohn Remaljas, der König von Israel, gegen Jerusalem in den Krieg; aber sie konnten die Stadt nicht einnehmen.

2. The House of David was informed: 'Aram has halted in Ephraimite territory.' At this, his heart and his people's hearts shook like forest trees shaking in the wind.

2. Als man dem Haus David meldete: Aram hat sich mit Efraim verbündet!, da zitterte das Herz des Königs und das Herz seines Volkes, wie die Bäume des Waldes im Wind zittern.

3. Yahweh then said to Isaiah, 'Go out with your son Shear-Jashub, and meet Ahaz at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the road to the Fuller's Field,

3. Der Herr aber sagte zu Jesaja: Geh zur Walkerfeldstraße hinaus, zusammen mit deinem Sohn Schear-Jaschub (Ein Rest kehrt um), an das Ende der Wasserleitung des oberen Teiches, um Ahas zu treffen.

4. and say to him, "Pay attention and keep calm. Do not be frightened or demoralised by these two smouldering sticks of firewood, by the fierce anger of Razon, Aram and the son of Remaliah,

4. Sag zu ihm: Bewahre die Ruhe, fürchte dich nicht! Dein Herz soll nicht verzagen wegen dieser beiden Holzscheite, dieser rauchenden Stummel, wegen des glühenden Zorns Rezins von Aram und des Sohnes Remaljas.

5. or because Aram, Ephraim and the son of Remaliah have been plotting against you and saying:

5. Zwar planen Aram, Efraim und der Sohn Remaljas Böses gegen dich und sagen:

6. Let us mount an attack on Judah, destroy it, force it onto our side and install the son of Tabeel there as king.

6. Wir wollen gegen Juda ziehen, es an uns reißen und für uns erobern; dann wollen wir den Sohn Tabeals dort zum König machen.

7. "Lord Yahweh says this: This will not happen, it will never occur,

7. Doch so spricht Gott, der Herr: Das kommt nicht zustande, / das wird nicht geschehen.

8. for the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Razon; another sixty-five years, and Ephraim will cease to be a people.

8. Denn das Haupt von Aram ist Damaskus / und das Haupt von Damaskus ist Rezin. Noch fünfundsechzig Jahre, dann wird Efraim zerschlagen, / es wird aufhören, ein Volk zu sein.

9. The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you will not take your stand on me you will not stand firm." '

9. Das Haupt von Efraim ist Samaria / und das Haupt von Samaria ist der Sohn Remaljas. / Glaubt ihr nicht, so bleibt ihr nicht.

10. Yahweh spoke to Ahaz again and said:

10. Der Herr sprach noch einmal zu Ahas; er sagte:

11. Ask Yahweh your God for a sign, either in the depths of Sheol or in the heights above.

11. Erbitte dir vom Herrn, deinem Gott, ein Zeichen, sei es von unten, aus der Unterwelt, oder von oben, aus der Höhe.

12. But Ahaz said, 'I will not ask. I will not put Yahweh to the test.'

12. Ahas antwortete: Ich will um nichts bitten und den Herrn nicht auf die Probe stellen.

13. He then said: Listen now, House of David: are you not satisfied with trying human patience that you should try my God's patience too?

13. Da sagte Jesaja: Hört her, ihr vom Haus David! Genügt es euch nicht, Menschen zu belästigen? Müßt ihr auch noch meinen Gott belästigen?

14. The Lord will give you a sign in any case: It is this: the young woman is with child and will give birth to a son whom she will call Immanuel.

14. Darum wird euch der Herr von sich aus ein Zeichen geben: Seht, die Jungfrau wird ein Kind empfangen, sie wird einen Sohn gebären und sie wird ihm den Namen Immanuel (Gott mit uns) geben.

15. On curds and honey will he feed until he knows how to refuse the bad and choose the good.

15. Er wird Butter und Honig essen bis zu der Zeit, in der er versteht, das Böse zu verwerfen und das Gute zu wählen.

16. Before the child knows how to refuse the bad and choose the good, the lands whose two kings are frightening you will be deserted.

16. Denn noch bevor das Kind versteht, das Böse zu verwerfen und das Gute zu wählen, wird das Land verödet sein, vor dessen beiden Königen dich das Grauen packt.

17. Yahweh will bring times for you, your people and your ancestral House, such as have not been seen since Ephraim broke away from Judah (the king of Assyria).

17. Der Herr wird Tage kommen lassen über dich und dein Volk und das Haus deines Vaters [durch den König von Assur], wie man sie nicht mehr erlebt hat, seit Efraim von Juda abgefallen ist.

18. When that day comes, Yahweh will whistle up mosquitoes from the distant streams of Egypt and bees from the land of Assyria,

18. An jenem Tag wird der Herr den Fliegen an den Mündungen des Nil in Ägypten pfeifen und den Bienen im Land Assur,

19. and they will all come and settle on the streams in the gullies, in the holes in the rocks, on all the thorn-bushes and on all the water-points.

19. und alle kommen und lassen sich nieder in den Schluchten und Felsspalten, in allen Hecken und an allen Wasserstellen.

20. That day the Lord will shave, with a razor hired from the other side of the River (with the king of Assyria), the head and the hair of the leg, and take off the beard, too.

20. An jenem Tag wird der Herr mit dem Messer, das er jenseits des Eufrat gekauft hat [mit dem König von Assur], euch den Kopf kahl scheren und die Schamhaare abrasieren; auch den Bart schneidet er ab.

21. When that day comes, each man will raise one heifer and two sheep,

21. An jenem Tag wird ein Mann nur eine junge Kuh und ein paar Schafe halten.

22. and because of the abundant milk they give (on curds will he feed) all who are left in the country will feed on curds and honey.

22. Aber sie werden so viel Milch geben, dass man Butter essen kann. Ja, Butter und Honig essen alle, die im Land übrig geblieben sind.

23. When that day comes, wherever there used to be a thousand vines worth a thousand pieces of silver, all will be brambles and thorn-bushes;

23. An jenem Tag wird jedes Grundstück, auf dem jetzt tausend Weinstöcke im Wert von tausend Silberstücken stehen, voll von Dornen und Disteln sein.

24. to be ventured into only with arrows and bow, for the country will be nothing but brambles and thorn-bushes.

24. Nur mit Pfeil und Bogen geht man dorthin; denn das ganze Land ist voll von Dornen und Disteln.

25. No more will you venture on any hillside formerly under the hoe for fear of the brambles and thorn-bushes; it will be fit only for pasturing the cattle, a tramping-ground for sheep.

25. Aus Angst vor den Dornen und Disteln geht man auf keinen von all den Bergen mehr, die man jetzt noch mit der Hacke bearbeitet. Man treibt die Rinder dorthin und lässt die Schafe dort weiden.
