Matthieu, 20

1. Car le royaume des cieux est semblableà un maître de maison qui sortit de grand matin afin d'embaucher desouvriers pour sa vigne.

1. "The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard.

2. Etant convenu avec les ouvriersd'un denier par jour, il les envoya à sa vigne.

2. After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard.

3. Il sortit vers la troisièmeheure, en vit d'autres qui se tenaient sur la place sans rien faire,

3. Going out about nine o'clock, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace,

4. et leur dit : " Allez, vous aussi,à ma vigne, et je vous donnerai ce qui sera juste. "

4. and he said to them, 'You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.'

5. Et ils y allèrent. Il sortitencore vers la sixième et la neuvième heure, et fit la même chose.

5. So they went off. (And) he went out again around noon, and around three o'clock, and did likewise.

6. Etant sorti vers la onzième(heure), il en trouva d'autres qui stationnaient, et il leur dit : " Pourquoi stationnez-vousici toute la journée sans rien faire? "

6. Going out about five o'clock, he found others standing around, and said to them, 'Why do you stand here idle all day?'

7. Ils lui disent : " C'est que personnene nous a embauchés. " Il leur dit : " Allez, vous aussi, à la vigne. "

7. They answered, 'Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, 'You too go into my vineyard.'

8. Le soir venu, le maîtrede la vigne dit à son intendant : " Appelle les ouvriers et paie-leur le salaire, en commençantpar les derniers jusqu'aux premiers. "

8. When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Summon the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first.'

9. Ceux de la onzième heurevinrent et reçurent chacun un denier. 10 Quand vinrent les premiers, ilspensèrent qu'ils recevraient davantage; mais ils reçurent, eux aussi, chacunun denier.

9. When those who had started about five o'clock came, each received the usual daily wage.

10. So when the first came, they thought that they would receive more, but each of them also got the usual wage.

11. En le recevant, ils murmuraientcontre le maître de maison, disant :

11. And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner,

12. " Ces derniers n'ont travailléqu'une heure, et tu les as traités comme nous, qui avons porté le poids du jouret la chaleur. "

12. saying, 'These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who bore the day's burden and the heat.'

13. Mais lui, s'adressant àl'un d'eux, répondit : " Ami, je ne te fais point d'injustice : n'es-tu pas convenu avec moi d'undenier?

13. He said to one of them in reply, 'My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage?

14. Prends ce qui te revient, etva-t'en. Je veux donner à ce dernier autant qu'à toi.

14. Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you?

15. Ne m'est-il pas permis de faireen mes affaires ce que je veux? Ou ton ?il sera-t-il mauvais parce que, moi,je suis bon?

15. (Or) am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?'

16. Ainsi les derniers seront premiers,et les premiers derniers. "

16. Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last."

17. Comme Jésus allait monterà Jérusalem, il prit à part les Douze et leur diten chemin :

17. As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve (disciples) aside by themselves, and said to them on the way,

18. " Voici que nous montons àJérusalem, et le Fils de l'homme sera livré aux grands prêtres et aux scribes,et ils le condamneront à mort,

18. "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death,

19. et ils le livreront aux Gentilspour être bafoué, flagellé et crucifié; et il ressuscitera le troisièmejour. " 20 Alors la mère des filsde Zébédée s'approcha de lui avec ses fils et se prosterna pour lui faire une demande;

19. and hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day."

20. of the sons of Zebedee approached him with her sons and did him homage, wishing to ask him for something.

21. Il lui dit : " Que voulez-vous?" Elle lui dit : " Ordonnez que mes deux fils, que voici, siègent l'un àvotre droite, l'autre à votre gauche, dans votre royaume. "

21. He said to her, "What do you wish?" She answered him, "Command that these two sons of mine sit, one at your right and the other at your left, in your kingdom."

22. Jésus répondit: " Vous ne savez pas ce que vous demandez. Pouvez-vous boire le calice que, moi, je doisboire? ? Nous le pouvons, " lui dirent-ils.

22. Jesus said in reply, "You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?" They said to him, "We can."

23. Il leur dit : " Vous boirez,en effet, mon calice; quant à siéger à ma droite ouà ma gauche, il ne m'appartient pasde l'accorder; c'est pour ceux pour qui mon Père l'a préparé."

23. He replied, "My cup you will indeed drink, but to sit at my right and at my left (, this) is not mine to give but is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father."

24. Ayant entendu cela, les dix autress'indignèrent contre les deux frères.

24. When the ten heard this, they became indignant at the two brothers.

25. Mais Jésus les appelaet dit : " Vous savez que les chefs des nations leur commandent en maîtres, etque les grands exercent leur empire sur elles.

25. But Jesus summoned them and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and the great ones make their authority over them felt.

26. Il n'en sera pas ainsi parmivous; au contraire, celui qui voudra devenir grand, parmi vous, se fera votre serviteur;

26. But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant;

27. et celui qui voudra, parmi vous,être premier, se fera votre esclave.

27. whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave.

28. C'est ainsi que le Fils de l'hommeest venu, non pour être servi, mais pour servir et donner sa vie en rançonpour beaucoup. "

28. Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."

29. Comme ils sortaient de Jéricho,une foule nombreuse le suivit.

29. As they left Jericho, a great crowd followed him.

30. Et voici que deux aveugles, assissur le bord du chemin, entendant dire que Jésus passait, se mirentà crier : " Seigneur, ayez pitié de nous, fils de David !"

30. Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, "(Lord,) Son of David, have pity on us!"

31. La foule les gourmanda pour lesfaire taire; mais eux crièrent plus fort, disant : " Seigneur, ayez pitié denous, fils de David ! "

31. The crowd warned them to be silent, but they called out all the more, "Lord, Son of David, have pity on us!"

32. Jésus, s'étantarrêté, les appela et dit : " Que voulez-vous que je vousfasse? ?

32. Jesus stopped and called them and said, "What do you want me to do for you?"

33. Seigneur, lui dirent-ils, quenos yeux s'ouvrent ! "

33. They answered him, "Lord, let our eyes be opened."

34. Emu de compassion, Jésustoucha leurs yeux, et aussitôt ils recouvrèrent la vue, et ils le suivirent.

34. Moved with pity, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight, and followed him.
