Jéremie, 43

1. Dès que Jérémie eut achevé de dire à tout le peuple toutes les paroles de Yahweh, leur Dieu, toutes ces paroles que Yahweh, leur Dieu, l'avait chargé de leur dire,

1. When Jeremiah finished speaking to the people all these words of the LORD, their God, with which the LORD had sent him to them,

2. Azarias, fils d'Osaïas, Johanan, fils de Caréa, et tous ces hommes orgueilleux dirent à Jérémie: "Tu dis des mensonges; Yahweh, notre Dieu, ne t'a pas envoyé pour nous dire: N'entrez point en Egypte pour y habiter.

2. Azariah, son of Hoshaiah, Johanan, son of Kareah, and all the insolent men shouted to Jeremiah: "You lie; it was not the LORD, our God, who sent you to tell us not to go to Egypt to settle.

3. Mais c'est Baruch, fils de Nérias, qui t'excite contre nous, afin de nous livrer aux mains des Chaldéens pour nous faire mourir et pour nous faire trans-porter à Babylone.

3. It is Baruch, son of Neriah, who stirs you up against us, to hand us over to the Chaldeans to be killed or exiled to Babylon."

4. Ainsi Johanan, fils de Caréa, tous les chefs de troupes et tout le peuple n'obéirent pas à la voix de Yahweh qui leur ordonnait de de-meurer au pays de Juda.

4. Johanan, son of Kareah, and the rest of the leaders and the people did not obey the LORD'S command to stay in the land of Judah.

5. Mais Joha-nan, fils de Caréa, et tous les chefs de troupes prirent tout le reste de Juda, ceux qui étaient revenus de toutes les nations où ils avaient été dispersés, pour habiter le pays de Juda,

5. Instead, Johanan, son of Kareah, and all the army leaders took along the whole remnant of Judah that had been dispersed among the nations and had returned thence to dwell again in the land of Judah:

6. hommes, fem-mes et enfants, les filles du roi et toutes les personnes que Nabuzardan, chef des gardes, avait laissés avec Godolias, fils d'Ahicam, fils de Saphan, ainsi que Jé-rémie, le prophète, et Baruch, fils de Nérias.

6. men, women, and children, the princesses and everyone whom Nebuzaradan, captain of the bodyguard, had entrusted to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan; also Jeremiah, the prophet, and Baruch, son of Neriah.

7. Ils entrèrent en Egypte, car ils n'obéirent pas i la voix de Yahweh, et ils vinrent jusqu'à Taphnès.

7. Against the LORD'S command they went to Egypt, and arrived at Tahpanhes. . . .

8. La parole de Yahweh fut adressée à Jérémie à Taphnès, en ces termes:

8. This word of the LORD came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes:

9. Prends dans ta main de grosses pier-res et cache-les, en présence des hom-mes de Juda, dans le ciment de la plate--forme en briques qui est à l'entrée de la maison du Pharaon à Taphnès,

9. Take with you large stones and sink them in mortar in the brickyard at the entrance to the royal building in Tahpanhes, while the men of Judah look on,

10. et dis-leur: Je vais envoyer chercher Nabu-chodonosor, roi de Babylone, mon servi-teur, et je placerai son trône sur ces pierres que j'ai déposées; il étendra son tapis sur elles.

10. and then say to them: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: I will send for my servant Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and bring him here. He will set his throne upon these stones which I, Jeremiah, have sunk, and stretch his canopy over them.

11. Il viendra et frappera le pays d'Egypte; ceux qui sont pour la mort, iront à la mort; ceux qui sont pour la captivité, en captivité, et ceux qui sont pour l'épée, à l'épée.

11. He shall come and strike the land of Egypt: with death, whoever is marked for death; with exile, everyone destined for exile; with the sword, all who are intended for the sword.

12. Et je mettrai le feu aux maisons des dieux d'Egypte; il les brûlera et les emmène-ra; il s'enveloppera du pays d'Egypte, comme un berger s'enveloppe de son vê-tement, et il en sortira paisiblement.

12. He shall set fire to the temples of Egypt's gods, and burn the gods or carry them off. As a shepherd delouses his cloak, he shall delouse the land of Egypt and depart victorious.

13. Il brisera les colonnes de la maison du Soleil qui est dans le pays d'Egypte, et il brûlera les maisons des dieux d'Egypte.

13. He shall smash the obelisks of the temple of the sun in the land of Egypt and destroy with fire the temples of the Egyptian gods.
