Wisdom of Solomon, 6

1. Hear therefore, O ye kings, and understand; learn, ye that be judges of the ends of the earth.

1. Kuulkaa siis, te kuninkaat, ja ymmärtäkää, oppikaa, te maan äärten tuomarit,

2. Give ear, ye that rule the people, and glory in the multitude of nations.

2. ottakaa korviinne, te joukkojen hallitsijat, te, jotka ylpeilitte kansojen paljoudesta.

3. For power is given you of the Lord, and sovereignty from the Highest, who shall try your works, and search out your counsels.

3. Sillä Herran antama on teidän hallituksenne, ja Korkeimmalta on teidän kuningasvaltanne; hän myös koettelee teidän tekonne ja tutkii teidän aivoituksenne.

4. Because, being ministers of his kingdom, ye have not judged aright, nor kept the law, nor walked after the counsel of God;

4. Sillä vaikka te olette hänen valtakuntansa palvelijoita, niin te ette ole oikein tuominneet ettekä noudattaneet lakia, ette vaeltaneet Jumalan tahdon mukaan.

5. Horribly and speedily shall he come upon you: for a sharp judgment shall be to them that be in high places.

5. Hirmuisena ja äkisti hän nousee teitä vastaan, sillä ankara tuomio kohtaa päällysmiehiä.

6. For mercy will soon pardon the meanest: but mighty men shall be mightily tormented.

6. Sillä halpa-arvoinen saa armosta anteeksi, mutta voimallisia koetellaan voimallisesti.

7. For he which is Lord over all shall fear no man's person, neither shall he stand in awe of any man's greatness: for he hath made the small and great, and careth for all alike.

7. Sillä kaikkien hallitsija ei väistä ketään eikä suuruutta kavahda. Sillä hän itse on tehnyt pienen ja suuren, ja yhtäläisesti hän pitää huolen kaikista.

8. But a sore trial shall come upon the mighty.

8. Mutta mahtavien osaksi tulee ankara tutkimus.

9. Unto you therefore, O kings, do I speak, that ye may learn wisdom, and not fall away.

9. Teille siis, oi hallitsijat, minä osoitan sanani, että oppisitte viisautta ettekä lankeaisi.

10. For they that keep holiness holily shall be judged holy: and they that have learned such things shall find what to answer.

10. Sillä jotka pyhinä pitävät pyhät asiat, ne pyhinä pidetään, ja jotka ovat saaneet opetusta niissä, ne löytävät puolustuksen.

11. Wherefore set your affection upon my words; desire them, and ye shall be instructed.

11. Halatkaa siis minun sanojani, janotkaa niitä, niin te tulette opetetuiksi.

12. Wisdom is glorious, and never fadeth away: yea, she is easily seen of them that love her, and found of such as seek her.

12. Loistava ja kuihtumaton on viisaus, ja jotka sitä rakastavat, ne sen helposti havaitsevat;

13. She preventeth them that desire her, in making herself first known unto them.

13. ennenkuin sitä halajavaiset sitä hakea ehtivät, se jo tekee itsensä heille tunnetuksi.

14. Whoso seeketh her early shall have no great travail: for he shall find her sitting at his doors.

14. Joka sitä varhain etsii, sen ei tarvitse vaivaa nähdä, sillä hän löytää sen istumassa ovellansa.

15. To think therefore upon her is perfection of wisdom: and whoso watcheth for her shall quickly be without care.

15. Sen mietiskeleminen on ymmärryksen huippu, ja joka sen tähden valvoo, se pääsee pian huolista.

16. For she goeth about seeking such as are worthy of her, sheweth herself favourably unto them in the ways, and meeteth them in every thought.

16. Sillä se itse kulkee ympäri ja etsii niitä, jotka ovat arvolliset sen saamaan, ja mielellään se ilmestyy heille heidän poluillansa ja tulee heitä vastaan jokaisessa heidän ajatuksessaan.

17. For the very true beginning of her is the desire of discipline; and the care of discipline is love;

17. Sillä sen alku on oppimisen totinen kaipuu;

18. And love is the keeping of her laws; and the giving heed unto her laws is the assurance of incorruption;

18. mutta oppimisen harrastus on rakkautta siihen, rakkaus taas on sen käskyjen noudattamista, ja käskyjen pitäminen takaa katoamattomuuden,

19. And incorruption maketh us near unto God:

19. mutta katoamattomuus vaikuttaa Jumalan läheisyydessä olemisen;

20. Therefore the desire of wisdom bringeth to a kingdom.

20. niin siis viisauden kaipuu vie ylös kuninkuuteen.

21. If your delight be then in thrones and sceptres, O ye kings of the people, honour wisdom, that ye may reign for evermore.

21. Jos te siis iloitsette valtaistuimista ja valtikoista, te kansojen hallitsijat, niin kunnioittakaa viisautta, että saisitte hallita iankaikkisesti.

22. As for wisdom, what she is, and how she came up, I will tell you, and will not hide mysteries from you: but will seek her out from the beginning of her nativity, and bring the knowledge of her into light, and will not pass over the truth.

22. Mutta mitä viisaus on, ja mitenkä se on syntynyt, sen minä tahdon ilmoittaa enkä salaa teiltä sen salaisuuksia, vaan tutkin sitä sen syntymästä alkaen ja saatan julki tiedon siitä. Minä en mitenkään kulje totuuden ohitse

23. Neither will I go with consuming envy; for such a man shall have no fellowship with wisdom.

23. enkä tee matkaa kalvavan kateuden seurassa, sillä se ei sovi viisauden kanssa yhteen.

24. But the multitude of the wise is the welfare of the world: and a wise king is the upholding of the people.

24. Viisaitten paljous on maailman pelastus, ja ymmärtäväinen kuningas on kansan menestys.

25. Receive therefore instruction through my words, and it shall do you good.

25. Ottakaa siis oppia minun sanoistani, ja te saatte hyötyä siitä.
