Galatians, 1

1. Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)

1. Paavali, apostoli, virkansa saanut, ei ihmisiltä eikä ihmisen kautta, vaan Jeesuksen Kristuksen kautta ja Isän Jumalan, joka on hänet kuolleista herättänyt,

2. And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:

2. ja kaikki veljet, jotka ovat minun kanssani, Galatian seurakunnille.

3. Grace [be] to you and peace from God the Father, and [from] our Lord Jesus Christ,

3. Armo teille ja rauha Jumalalta, meidän Isältämme, ja Herralta Jeesukselta Kristukselta,

4. Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

4. joka antoi itsensä alttiiksi meidän syntiemme tähden, pelastaaksensa meidät nykyisestä pahasta maailmanajasta meidän Jumalamme ja Isämme tahdon mukaan!

5. To whom [be] glory for ever and ever. Amen.

5. Hänen olkoon kunnia aina ja iankaikkisesti! Amen.

6. I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

6. Minua kummastuttaa, että te niin äkkiä käännytte hänestä, joka on kutsunut teidät Kristuksen armossa, pois toisenlaiseen evankeliumiin,

7. Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

7. joka kuitenkaan ei ole mikään toinen; on vain eräitä, jotka hämmentävät teitä ja tahtovat vääristellä Kristuksen evankeliumin.

8. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

8. Mutta vaikka me, tai vaikka enkeli taivaasta julistaisi teille evankeliumia, joka on vastoin sitä, minkä me olemme teille julistaneet, hän olkoon kirottu.

9. As we said before, so say I now again, If any [man] preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

9. Niinkuin ennenkin olemme sanoneet, niin sanon nytkin taas: jos joku julistaa teille evankeliumia, joka on vastoin sitä, minkä te olette saaneet, hän olkoon kirottu.

10. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

10. Ihmistenkö suosiota minä nyt etsin vai Jumalan? Tai ihmisillekö pyydän olla mieliksi? Jos minä vielä tahtoisin olla ihmisille mieliksi, en olisi Kristuksen palvelija.

11. But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.

11. Sillä minä teen teille tiettäväksi, veljet, että minun julistamani evankeliumi ei ole ihmisten mukaista;

12. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught [it], but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

12. enkä minä olekaan sitä ihmisiltä saanut, eikä sitä ole minulle opetettu, vaan Jeesus Kristus on sen minulle ilmoittanut.

13. For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:

13. Olettehan kuulleet minun entisestä vaelluksestani juutalaisuudessa, että minä ylenmäärin vainosin Jumalan seurakuntaa ja sitä hävitin

14. And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.

14. ja että edistyin juutalaisuudessa pitemmälle kuin monet samanikäiset heimossani ja ylen innokkaasti kiivailin isieni perinnäissääntöjen puolesta.

15. But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called [me] by his grace,

15. Mutta kun hän, joka äitini kohdusta saakka on minut erottanut ja kutsunut armonsa kautta, näki hyväksi

16. To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:

16. ilmaista minussa Poikansa, että minä julistaisin evankeliumia hänestä pakanain seassa, niin minä heti alunpitäenkään en kysynyt neuvoa lihalta ja vereltä,

17. Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.

17. enkä lähtenyt ylös Jerusalemiin niiden luo, jotka ennen minua olivat apostoleja, vaan menin pois Arabiaan ja palasin taas takaisin Damaskoon.

18. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.

18. Sitten, kolmen vuoden kuluttua, minä menin ylös Jerusalemiin tutustuakseni Keefaaseen ja jäin hänen tykönsä viideksitoista päiväksi.

19. But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother.

19. Mutta muita apostoleja minä en nähnyt; näin ainoastaan Jaakobin, Herran veljen.

20. Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.

20. Ja minä kirjoitan teille, katso, Jumalan kasvojen edessä minä sanon, etten valhettele.

21. Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;

21. Sitten menin Syyrian ja Kilikian paikkakuntiin.

22. And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:

22. Mutta olin kasvoiltani tuntematon Juudean seurakunnille, jotka ovat Kristuksessa.

23. But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.

23. Heidän kuuloonsa oli vain tullut: "Meidän entinen vainoojamme julistaa nyt sitä uskoa, jota hän ennen hävitti";

24. And they glorified God in me.

24. ja he ylistivät Jumalaa minun tähteni.
