Ecclesiasticus, 51

1. They compassed me on every side, and there was no one that would help me. I looked for the succour of men, and there was none.

1. Ti loderò, o Signore e re, e ti canterò, o mio salvatore, loderò il tuo nome,

2.

2. perché mi sei stato riparo e aiuto, salvando il mio corpo dalla perdizione, dal laccio di una lingua che sparge calunnie e dalle labbra di quanti agiscono con menzogna. Dinanzi ai miei assalitori sei stato il mio aiuto; io sono salvo,

3.

3. per la tua grande misericordia e per il tuo nome, dai lacci tesi per ingoiarmi, dalla mano di quanti insidiavano alla mia vita, dalle molte tribolazioni che ho avuto,

4.

4. dal rogo che doveva soffocarmi dintorno, dal fuoco che io non avevo acceso,

5.

5. dal ventre degl'inferi tanto profondo, dalla lingua impura e dalla parola bugiarda,

6.

6. dal dardo di una lingua ingiusta. La mia anima si è avvicinata alla morte e la mia vita si è abbassata sino ai confini degl'inferi;

7.

7. ero circondato da tutti i lati e non c'era aiuto, aspettavo un sostegno degli uomini, ma non c'era.

8.

8. Mi sono ricordato della tua pietà, o Signore, dei benefici che ci hai da sempre elargito, perché tu liberi quelli che confidano in te, li salvi dalla mano dei perversi.

9.

9. Ho innalzato dalla terra la mia supplica, ho pregato per la liberazione dalla morte.

10.

10. Allora ho gridato: "Signore, tu sei mio padre, tu sei il campione della mia salvezza, non abbandonarmi nella tribolazione quando sono senza aiuto di fronte all'arroganza. Canterò il tuo nome senza fine, ti ringrazierò con la lode".

11. I remembered thy mercy, O Lord, and thy works, which are from the beginning of the world.

11. La mia preghiera è stata esaudita. Mi hai salvato dalla perdizione, mi hai liberato nel momento del pericolo;

12. How thou deliverest them that wait for thee, O Lord, and savest them out of the hands of the nations.

12. perciò ti loderò e ti canterò, benedirò il nome del Signore.

13. Thou hast exalted my dwelling place upon the earth and I have prayed for death to pass away.

13. Quand'ero ancora giovane, prima che viaggiassi, ho chiesto apertamente la sapienza nella preghiera.

14. I called upon the Lord, the father of my Lord, that he would not leave me in the day of my trouble, and in the time of the proud without help.

14. Davanti al tempio l'ho implorata e fino all'ultimo la cercherò.

15. I will praise thy name continually, and will praise it with thanksgiving, and my prayer was heard.

15. Sbocciata come uva che s'imbruna, il mio cuore s'è rallegrato in essa. Il mio piede ha camminato diritto, dalla giovinezza ha seguito le sue tracce.

16. And thou hast saved me from destruction, and hast delivered me from the evil time.

16. Ho teso appena il mio orecchio e l'ho ricevuta, ho trovato per me molta istruzione.

17. Therefore I will give thanks, and praise thee, and bless the name of the Lord.

17. Per essa ho fatto dei progressi, a chi mi ha dato la sapienza io renderò gloria.

18. When I was yet young, before I wandered about, I sought for wisdom openly in my prayer.

18. Mi sono deciso a metterla in pratica, ho desiderato il bene, perciò non sarò confuso.

19. I prayed for her before the temple, and unto the very end I will seek after her, and she flourished as a grape soon ripe.

19. Ho impegnato tutte le mie forze per la sapienza e sono stato esatto nella pratica della legge. Tendevo in alto le mie mani e deploravo la mia ignoranza.

20. My heart delighted in her, my foot walked in the right way, from my youth up I sought after her.

20. Ho proteso la mia anima verso la sapienza e l'ho trovata conservando la purezza. Con essa ho acquistato intelligenza fin dall'inizio, perciò non sarò abbandonato.

21. I bowed down my ear a little, and received her.

21. Il mio intimo s'è sconvolto per cercarla, ma dopo ho fatto un grande acquisto.

22. I found much wisdom in myself, and I profited much therein.

22. Il Signore mi ha dato in compenso una lingua, e con essa lo loderò.

23. To him that giveth me wisdom, will I give glory.

23. Avvicinatevi a me, o ignoranti, fermatevi nella mia casa per istruirvi.

24. For I have determined to follow her: I have had a zeal for good, and shall not be confounded.

24. Perché volerne rimanere privi, quando ne siete ancora tanto assetati?

25. My soul hath wrestled for her, and in doing it I have been confirmed.

25. Ho aperto la mia bocca per dire: "Potete acquistarla senza denaro;

26. I stretched forth my hands on high, and I bewailed my ignorance of her.

26. sottomettete il collo al suo giogo, accogliete l'istruzione: è facile trovarla".

27. I directed my soul to her, and in knowledge I found her.

27. I vostri occhi vedono che io ho faticato poco e ho trovato per me molto riposo.

28. I possessed my heart with her from the beginning: therefore I shall not be forsaken.

28. Se l'istruzione vi costa molto argento, con essa acquisterete molto oro.

29. My entrails were troubled in seeking her: therefore shall I possess a good possession.

29. Possiate rallegrarvi nella misericordia del Signore, senza avere vergogna per la sua lode.

30. The Lord hath given me a tongue for my reward: and with it I will praise him.

30. Compite la vostra opera in tempo giusto, e a suo tempo vi darà la sua mercede.

31. Draw near to me, ye unlearned, and gather yourselves together into the house of discipline.

31.

32. Why are ye slow? and what do you say of these things? your souls are exceeding thirsty.

32.

33. I have opened my mouth, and have spoken: buy her for yourselves without silver,

33.

34. And submit your neck to the yoke, and let your soul receive discipline: for she is near at hand to be found.

34.

35. Behold with your eyes how I have laboured a little, and have found much rest to myself.

35.

36. Receive ye discipline as a great sum of money, and possess abundance of gold by her.

36.

37. Let your soul rejoice in his mercy, and you shall not be confounded in his praise.

37.

38. Work your work before the time, and he will give you your reward in his time.
