Przypisy:
26:1-5 - The chief priests and elders plot to secretly arrest Jesus. This plan reveals the religious leaders' rejection of the Messiah and the fulfillment of God's will, which is accomplished even through human wickedness (see also John 11:53 and Luke 22:2).
26:36-46 - Jesus' prayer in Gethsemane shows His anguish and submission to the Father's will, despite His suffering. Prayer in times of crisis teaches us to seek divine strength and to trust in God's plans, even when they are difficult (see also Luke 22:41-44 and Philippians 2:8).
26:69-75 - Peter's denial before Jesus' judgment highlights human weakness and the need for vigilance in faith. Even in his failings, Peter is restored by Christ's grace, exemplifying forgiveness and redemption (see also Luke 22:61-62 and John 21:15-19).
Wersety związane z Matthew, 26:
Matthew chapter 26 recounts the dramatic events preceding the crucifixion. How does Jesus face His final hour? The chapter recounts the conspiracy against Jesus, His anointing in Bethany, the Last Supper, the agony in Gethsemane, the betrayal of Judas and the denial of Peter. Jesus institutes the Lord's Supper and is arrested, facing an unfair trial. These events reveal Christ's sacrificial love and human frailty in the face of trials. Contemplate with us five biblical passages that deepen the redemptive themes of this fundamental chapter.
1 Corinthians 11:23-25: "For I received from the Lord what I also gave to you: That the Lord Jesus, on the night in which he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, 'This is my body, which is given for you; do this in memory of me.' In the same way, after supper he took the cup and said: 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this whenever you drink it in memory of me.'" - Paul recounts the institution of the Lord's Supper, echoing the account in Matthew 26:26-28.
Mark 14:36: "And he said: 'Abba, Father, everything is possible for you. Take this cup away from me; however, not what I want, but what you want.'" - This parallel verse reflects Jesus' prayer in Gethsemane, described in Matthew 26:39.
Zechariah 11:12-13: "I told them, 'If you think it's better, pay me; otherwise, don't pay.' Then they paid me thirty pieces of silver. The Lord said to me: 'Throw to the potters this magnificent value with which they valued me!' I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potters in the House of the Lord." - This prophecy is cited in Matthew 27:9-10 as fulfilled in the betrayal of Judas, mentioned in Matthew 26:15.
John 18:10-11: "Simon Peter, who was carrying a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. That servant's name was Malchus. Jesus, however, ordered Peter: 'Put away the sword! Shall I not drink the cup which the Father hath given me?'" - This incident parallels that reported in Matthew 26:51-52, showing Jesus' voluntary surrender.
Isaiah 53:7: "He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; like a lamb that was led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that remains silent before its shearers, he did not open his mouth." - This prophecy is fulfilled in Jesus' silence before his accusers, as described in Matthew 26:62-63.
