Exodus 32 describes the infidelity of the people of Israel in making a golden calf to worship, while Moses was on Mount Sinai receiving God's commandments. Deuteronomy 9:16-17: "And I saw that you had sin against the Lord your God; you had made a calf of casting; you soon turned away from the way that the Lord had commanded you.
