Genesis, 11

1. Now the earth was of one language and of the same speech.

1. Sva je zemlja imala jedan jezik i rijeèi iste.

2. And when they were advancing from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt in it.

2. Ali kako su se ljudi selili s istoka, naiðu na jednu dolinu u zemlji Šinearu i tu se nastane.

3. And each one said to his neighbor, “Come, let us make bricks, and bake them with fire.” And they had bricks instead of stones, and pitch instead of mortar.

3. Jedan drugome reèe: "Hajdemo praviti opeke te ih peæi da otvrdnu!" Opeke im bile mjesto kamena, a paklina im služila za žbuku.

4. And they said: “Come, let us make a city and a tower, so that its height may reach to heaven. And let us make our name famous before we are divided into all the lands.”

4. Onda rekoše: "Hajde da sebi podignemo grad i toranj s vrhom do neba! Pribavimo sebi ime, da se ne raspršimo po svoj zemlji!"

5. Then the Lord descended to see the city and the tower, which the sons of Adam were building.

5. Jahve se spusti da vidi grad i toranj što su ga gradili sinovi èovjeèji.

6. And he said: “Behold, the people are united, and all have one tongue. And since they have begun to do this, they will not desist from their plans, until they have completed their work.

6. Jahve reèe. "Zbilja su jedan narod, s jednim jezikom za sve! Ovo je tek poèetak njihovih nastojanja. Sad im ništa neæe biti neostvarivo što god naume izvesti.

7. Therefore, come, let us descend, and in that place confound their tongue, so that they may not listen, each one to the voice of his neighbor.”

7. Hajde da siðemo i jezik im pobrkamo, da jedan drugome govora ne razumije."

8. And so the Lord divided them from that place into all the lands, and they ceased to build the city.

8. Tako ih Jahve rasu odande po svoj zemlji te ne sazidaše grada.

9. And for this reason, its name was called ‘Babel,’ because in that place the language of the whole earth became confused. And from then on, the Lord scattered them across the face of every region.

9. Stoga mu je ime Babel, jer je ondje Jahve pobrkao govor svima u onom kraju i odande ih je Jahve raspršio po svoj zemlji.

10. These are the generations of Shem. Shem was one hundred years old when he conceived Arphaxad, two years after the great flood.

10. Ovo su potomci Šemovi: Kad je Šemu bilo sto godina - dvije godine poslije Potopa - rodi mu se Arpakšad.

11. And after he conceived Arphaxad, Shem lived for five hundred years, and he conceived sons and daughters.

11. Po roðenju Arpakšadovu Šem je živio petsto godina te mu se rodilo još sinova i kæeri.

12. Next, Arphaxad lived for thirty-five years, and then he conceived Shelah.

12. Kad je Arpakšadu bilo trideset i pet godina, rodi mu se Šelah.

13. And after he conceived Shelah, Arphaxad lived for three hundred and three years, and he conceived sons and daughters.

13. Po roðenju Šelahovu Arpakšad je živio èetiri stotine i tri godine te mu se rodilo još sinova i kæeri.

14. Likewise, Shelah lived for thirty years, and then he conceived Eber.

14. Kad je Šelahu bilo trideset godina, rodi mu se Eber.

15. And after he conceived Eber, Shelah lived for four hundred and three years, and he conceived sons and daughters.

15. Po roðenju Eberovu Šelah je živio èetiri stotine i tri godine te mu se rodilo još sinova i kæeri.

16. Then Eber lived for thirty-four years, and he conceived Peleg.

16. Kad su Eberu bile trideset i èetiri godine, rodi mu se Peleg.

17. And after he conceived Peleg, Eber lived for four hundred and thirty years, and he conceived sons and daughters.

17. Po roðenju Pelegovu Eber je živio èetiri stotine i trideset godina te mu se rodilo još sinova i kæeri.

18. Likewise, Peleg lived for thirty years, and then he conceived Reu.

18. Kad je Pelegu bilo trideset godina, rodi mu se Reu.

19. And after he conceived Reu, Peleg lived for two hundred and nine years, and he conceived sons and daughters.

19. Po roðenju Reuovu Peleg je živio dvjesta i devet godina te mu se rodilo još sinova i kæeri.

20. Then Reu lived for thirty-two years, and then he conceived Serug.

20. Kad su Reuu bile trideset i dvije godine, rodi mu se Serug.

21. Likewise, after he conceived Serug, Reu lived for two hundred and seven years, and he conceived sons and daughters.

21. Po roðenju Serugovu Reu je živio dvjesta i sedam godina te mu se rodilo još sinova i kæeri.

22. In truth, Serug lived for thirty years, and then he conceived Nahor.

22. Kad je Serugu bilo trideset godina, rodi mu se Nahor.

23. And after he conceived Nahor, Serug lived for two hundred years, and he conceived sons and daughters.

23. Po roðenju Nahorovu Serug je živio dvjesta godina te mu se rodilo još sinova i kæeri.

24. And so Nahor lived for twenty-nine years, and then he conceived Terah.

24. Kad je Nahoru bilo dvadeset i devet godina, rodi mu se Terah.

25. And after he conceived Terah, Nahor lived for one hundred and nineteen years, and he conceived sons and daughters.

25. Po roðenju Terahovu Nahor je živio sto i devetnaest godina te mu se rodilo još sinova i kæeri.

26. And Terah lived for seventy years, and then he conceived Abram, and Nahor, and Haran.

26. Kad je Terahu bilo sedamdeset godina, rode mu se: Abram, Nahor i Haran.

27. And these are the generations of Terah. Terah conceived Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Next Haran conceived Lot.

27. Ovo je povijest Terahova. Terahu se rodio Abram, Nahor i Haran; a Haranu se rodio Lot.

28. And Haran died before his father Terah, in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldeans.

28. Haran umrije za života svoga oca Teraha, u svome rodnom kraju, u Uru Kaldejskom.

29. Then Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai. And the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

29. Abram se i Nahor ožene. Abramovoj ženi bijaše ime Saraja, a Nahorovoj Milka; ova je bila kæi Harana, oca Milke i Jiske.

30. But Sarai was barren and had no children.

30. Saraja bijaše nerotkinja - nije imala poroda.

31. And so Terah took his son Abram, and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and he led them away from Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan. And they approached as far as Haran, and they dwelt there.

31. Terah povede svoga sina Abrama, svog unuka Lota, sina Haranova, svoju snahu Saraju, ženu svoga sina Abrama, pa se zaputi s njima iz Ura Kaldejskoga u zemlju kanaansku. Kad stignu do Harana, ondje se nastane.

32. And the days of Terah that passed were two hundred and five years, and then he died in Haran.

32. Dob Terahova dosegnu dvjesta i pet godina; a onda Terah umrije u Haranu.
