Haggai, 1

1. On the first day of the sixth month in the second year of King Darius, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai to the governor of Judah, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, and to the high priest Joshua, son of Jehozadak:

1. In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of Yahweh was addressed through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel governor of Judah and to Joshua son of Jehozadak the high priest as follows,

2. Thus says the LORD of hosts: This people says: "Not now has the time come to rebuild the house of the LORD."

2. 'Yahweh Sabaoth says this, "This people says: The time has not yet come to rebuild the Temple of Yahweh." '

3. (Then this word of the LORD came through Haggai, the prophet:)

4. Is it time for you to dwell in your own paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?

4. 'Is this a time for you to live in your panelled houses, when this House lies in ruins?

5. Now thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways!

5. So now, Yahweh Sabaoth says this, "Think carefully about your behaviour.

6. You have sown much, but have brought in little; you have eaten, but have not been satisfied; You have drunk, but have not been exhilarated; have clothed yourselves, but not been warmed; And he who earned wages earned them for a bag with holes in it.

6. You have sown much and harvested little; you eat but never have enough, drink but never have your fill, put on clothes but feel no warmth. The wage-earner gets his wages only to put them in a bag with a hole in it."

7. Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways!

7. Yahweh Sabaoth says this, "Think carefully about your behaviour.

8. Go up into the hill country; bring timber, and build the house That I may take pleasure in it and receive my glory, says the LORD.

8. Go up into the hills, fetch timber and rebuild the House; and I shall take pleasure in it and manifest my glory there -- Yahweh says.

9. You expected much, but it came to little; and what you brought home, I blew away. For what cause? says the LORD of hosts. Because my house lies in ruins, while each of you hurries to his own house.

9. The abundance you expected proved to be little. When you brought the harvest in, I blasted it. And why? - Yahweh Sabaoth declares. Because while my House lies in ruins, each of you is busy with his own house.

10. Therefore the heavens withheld from you their dew, and the earth her crops.

10. That is why the sky has withheld the rain and the earth withheld its yield.

11. And I called for a drought upon the land and upon the mountains; Upon the grain, and upon the wine, and upon the oil, and upon all that the ground brings forth; Upon men and upon beasts, and upon all that is produced by hand.

11. I have called down drought on land and hills, on grain, on new wine, on olive oil and on all the produce of the ground, on humans and animals and all your labours." '

12. Then Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, and the high priest Joshua, son of Jehozadak, and all the remnant of the people listened to the voice of the LORD, their God, and to the words of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD, their God, had sent him, and the people feared because of the LORD.

12. Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jehozadak the high priest and the entire remnant of the people, paid attention to the voice of Yahweh their God and to the words of the prophet Haggai, which Yahweh their God had sent him to deliver. And the people were filled with fear before Yahweh.

13. And the LORD'S messenger, Haggai, proclaimed to the people as the message of the LORD: I am with you, says the LORD.

13. Haggai, the messenger of Yahweh, then passed on Yahweh's message to the people, 'I am with you -- declares Yahweh.'

14. Then the LORD stirred up the spirit of the governor of Judah, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, and the spirit of the high priest Joshua, son of Jehozadak, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, so that they came and set to work on the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,

14. And Yahweh roused the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel governor of Judah, the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak the high priest and the spirit of the entire remnant of the people; they came and set to work in the Temple of Yahweh Sabaoth, their God.

1:1-2 - Il profeta Aggeo inizia il suo messaggio con un'esortazione diretta al popolo, sottolineando la priorità della ricostruzione del tempio. La negligenza della casa di Dio è messa in contrasto con la preoccupazione del popolo per le proprie abitazioni, evidenziando la loro mancanza di impegno spirituale (cfr. anche Matteo 6:33 ed Esdra 3:1-2).

1:3-6 - Aggeo invita il popolo a riflettere sulle proprie difficoltà, che sono conseguenza della loro mancanza di dedizione a Dio. Egli sottolinea che le loro azioni vengono frustrate perché non danno priorità all'opera di Dio, ma cercano solo il proprio benessere (vedere anche Matteo 6:19-21 ed Ecclesiaste 5:10).

1:7-8 - Il profeta esorta il popolo a riflettere sulle proprie vie e a obbedire al comando di Dio di ricostruire il tempio. Costruire la casa di Dio è visto come un mezzo per riportare benedizione e prosperità al popolo (vedi anche 1 Corinzi 3:16-17 e Malachia 3:10).

1:12-15 - Il popolo risponde positivamente al messaggio di Aggeo, dando inizio alla ricostruzione del tempio. L'obbedienza di Israele si traduce in un risveglio spirituale e in un rinnovato impegno verso Dio, dimostrando che la vera prosperità deriva dalla fedeltà a Lui (vedi anche Esdra 3:10-13 e Neemia 2:17).

01:15 - Il capitolo si conclude con la menzione del 24° giorno del mese, che simboleggia l'inizio della ricostruzione del tempio. La data segna un nuovo inizio, a simboleggiare che quando il popolo si rivolge a Dio, anche Lui si rivolge a loro con benedizioni (vedi anche Zaccaria 1:3 e Giacomo 4:8).

Versi relativi a Haggai, 1:

Aggeo capitolo 1 confronta le persone sulle loro priorità. Perché è urgente ricostruire il tempio? Questo testo impegnativo trasmette la parola di Dio al governatore Zorobabele e al sommo sacerdote Giosuè, rimproverando il popolo per aver trascurato la casa di Dio. Il capitolo rivela come questa negligenza abbia provocato difficoltà economiche e richiede un’azione immediata. Aggeo 1 esplora temi come l'obbedienza, l'amministrazione e la centralità dell'adorazione di Dio.
