Ezekiel, 7

1. Thus the word of the LORD came to me:

1. The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,

2. Son of man, now say: Thus says the Lord GOD to the land of Israel: An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land!

2. 'Son of man, say, "Lord Yahweh says this to the land of Israel: Finished! The end is coming for the four corners of the country.

3. Now the end is upon you; I will unleash my anger against you and judge you according to your conduct and lay upon you the consequences of all your abominations.

3. This is the end for you; I shall unleash my anger on you, and judge you as your conduct deserves and call you to account for all your loathsome practices.

4. I will not look upon you with pity nor have mercy; I will bring your conduct down upon you, and the consequences of your abominations shall be in your midst; then shall you know that I am the LORD.

4. I shall show you no pity, I shall not spare you; I shall repay you for your conduct and for the loathsome practices in which you persist. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.

5. Thus says the Lord GOD: Disaster upon disaster! See it coming!

5. "The Lord Yahweh says this: Disaster, a unique disaster, is coming.

6. An end is coming, the end is coming upon you! See it coming!

6. The end is coming, the end is coming, it is on the move towards you, it is coming now.

7. The climax has come for you who dwell in the land! The time has come, near is the day: a time of consternation, not of rejoicing.

7. Now it is your turn, you who dwell in this country. Doom is coming, the day is near; no joy now, only tumult, on the mountains.

8. Soon now I will pour out my fury upon you and spend my anger upon you; I will judge you according to your conduct and lay upon you the consequences of all your abominations.

8. Now I shall soon vent my fury on you and sate my anger on you: I shall judge you as your conduct deserves and repay you for all your loathsome practices.

9. I will not look upon you with pity nor have mercy; I will deal with you according to your conduct, and the consequences of your abominations shall be in your midst; then shall you know that it is I, the LORD, who strike.

9. I shall show neither pity nor mercy, but shall repay you for your conduct and the loathsome practices in which you persist. Then you will know that I am Yahweh and that I strike.

10. See, the day of the LORD! See, the end is coming! Lawlessness is in full bloom, insolence flourishes,

10. "Now is the day, your turn has come, it has come, it appears, the sceptre has blossomed, pride is at its peak.

11. violence has risen to support wickedness. It shall not be long in coming, nor shall it delay.

11. Violence has risen to become the scourge of wickedness . . .

12. The time has come, the day dawns. Let not the buyer rejoice nor the seller mourn, for wrath shall be upon all the throng.

12. Doom is coming, the day is near. Neither should buyer rejoice, nor seller regret, for the fury rests on everyone alike.

13. The seller shall not regain what he sold as long as he lives, for wrath shall be upon all the throng. Because of his sins, no one shall preserve his life.

13. The seller will not be able to go back on his bargain; each persists in his sins; they take no defensive measures.

14. They shall sound the trumpet and make everything ready, yet no one shall go to war, for my wrath is upon all the throng.

14. The trumpet sounds, all is ready, but no one goes into battle, since my fury rests on all alike.

15. The sword is outside; pestilence and hunger are within. He that is in the country shall die by the sword; pestilence and famine shall devour those in the city.

15. "Outside, the sword; inside, plague and famine. Whoever is living in the countryside will die by the sword; whoever is living in the city will be devoured by famine and plague.

16. Even those who escape and flee to the mountains like the doves of the valleys--I will put them all to death, each one for his own sins.

16. And those who escape will escape to the mountains and there, like doves of the valleys, I shall slaughter them all, each one for his sin.

17. All their hands shall be limp, and all their knees shall run with water.

17. Every hand will grow limp, every knee turn to water.

18. They shall put on sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; shame shall be on all their faces and baldness on all their heads.

18. They will put on sackcloth, each one trembling. Every face will be ashamed and every head be shaved.

19. They shall fling their silver into the streets, and their gold shall be considered refuse. Their silver and gold cannot save them on the day of the LORD'S wrath. They shall not be allowed to satisfy their craving or fill their bellies, for this has been the occasion of their sin.

19. They will throw their silver away in the streets and their gold they will regard as a pollution; neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of Yahweh's fury. Never again will they have enough to eat, never again will they fill their bellies, since that was the occasion for their guilt.

20. In the beauty of their ornaments they put their pride: they made of them their abominable images (their idols). For this reason I make them refuse.

20. They used to pride themselves on the beauty of their jewellery, out of which they made their loathsome images, their horrors; so now I have made it pollute them.

21. I will hand them over as booty to foreigners, to be spoiled and defiled by the wicked of the earth.

21. I shall hand it over as plunder to foreigners, as loot to the most evil people on earth. They will profane it.

22. I will turn away my face from them, and my treasure shall be profaned: robbers shall enter and profane it.

22. I shall turn my face away from them, while my treasure-house is profaned and robbers will force their way in and profane it.

23. They shall wreak slaughter, for the land is filled with bloodshed and the city full of violence.

23. "Forge yourself a chain; for the country is full of bloody executions and the city full of deeds of violence,

24. I will bring in the worst of the nations, who shall take possession of their houses. I will put an end to their proud strength, and their sanctuaries shall be profaned.

24. so I shall bring the cruellest of the nations to seize their houses. I shall put an end to the pride of their e'lite, and their sanctuary will be profaned.

25. When anguish comes they shall seek peace, but there will be none.

25. Terror is on the way: they will look for peace and there will be none.

26. There shall be disaster after disaster, rumor after rumor. Prophetic vision shall fade; instruction shall be lacking to the priest, and counsel to the elders,

26. Disaster will follow on disaster, rumour on rumour; they will pester the prophet for a vision; the priest will be at a loss over the law and the elders on how to advise.

27. while the prince shall be enveloped in terror, and the hands of the common people shall tremble. I will deal with them according to their conduct, and according to their judgments I will judge them; thus they shall know that I am the LORD.

27. The king will go into mourning, the prince be plunged in grief, the hands of the country people tremble. I shall treat them as their conduct deserves, and judge them as their own verdicts merit. Then they will know that I am Yahweh!" '

7:1-4 - Il giudizio di Dio è imminente e non sarà revocato. Il messaggio di Ezechiele sottolinea che la misericordia di Dio è stata ripetutamente respinta e che ora il giudizio sarà irrevocabile per il popolo d'Israele (vedi anche Amos 8:11-12 e Matteo 24:36-39).

7:5-9 - La giustizia di Dio si riverserà su tutta la terra, colpendo sia i ricchi che i poveri, e non ci sarà scampo. L'imparzialità del giudizio di Dio rivela la Sua santità e la necessità di vivere secondo la Sua volontà (vedi anche Romani 2:6-11 e Apocalisse 6:10-11).

7:10-13 - Il giudizio di Dio sarà una punizione inevitabile. Israele subirà la rovina in ogni ambito della vita e il popolo si renderà conto troppo tardi che il giudizio è giunto. Il messaggio sottolinea la necessità di prestare attenzione agli avvertimenti di Dio prima che sia troppo tardi (vedi anche Amos 5:18-20 ed Ebrei 10:31).

7:14-18 - Nel mezzo del giudizio, le forze nemiche circonderanno Israele. Il popolo cercherà aiuto, ma non potrà fuggire, perché la distruzione sarà totale. La mancanza di preparazione spirituale e morale porterà alla calamità (vedi anche Isaia 24:1-3 e Geremia 6:14).

7:19-27 - La sofferenza sarà così grande che il popolo vorrà fuggire dalla distruzione, ma non troverà salvezza. Le ricchezze non salveranno e la disperazione prevarrà. Questo brano sottolinea l'inutilità dei beni materiali di fronte al giudizio di Dio (vedi anche Luca 12:16-21 e Matteo 16:26).

Versi relativi a Ezekiel, 7:

Ezechiele capitolo 7 proclama la fine imminente di Israele. Come descrive Dio questo giudizio finale? Questo testo urgente annuncia l'arrivo del giorno del Signore, descrivendo nei dettagli la distruzione imminente e i suoi effetti devastanti. Il capitolo sottolinea l'inevitabilità e la portata del giudizio divino, evidenziando l'inutilità delle ricchezze e l'assenza di vie di fuga. La giustizia di Dio si manifesta in risposta alla malvagità del popolo. Rifletti con noi su cinque passaggi biblici che chiariscono i temi del giudizio e delle conseguenze presentati in questo capitolo allarmante.

Amos 8:2: "Cosa vedi, Amos?’, chiese. «Un cesto di frutta matura», risposi. Allora il Signore mi disse: «È venuta la fine per il mio popolo Israele; Non ti risparmierò più."" - Come in Ezechiele 7, Amos usa l'immagine della "fine" che arriva per Israele, indicando il giudizio imminente.

Lamentazioni 1:20: "Vedi, Signore, quanto sono angosciato! Sono angosciato! Il mio cuore è turbato dentro di me, perché sono stato molto ribelle. Fuori la spada prende vita; Dentro la casa regna la morte." - Questo passaggio delle Lamentazioni riflette il tipo di angoscia e di giudizio descritti in Ezechiele 7.

Sofonia 1:18: "Né il loro argento né il loro oro potranno salvarli nel giorno dell'ira del Signore. Nel fuoco del suo zelo tutto il mondo sarà consumato, poiché egli metterà improvvisamente fine a tutti coloro che vivono sulla terra." - Sofonia descrive un giorno di giudizio simile a quello descritto in Ezechiele 7, dove le ricchezze non possono salvare.

Isaia 13:6: "Lamentatevi, perché il giorno del Signore è vicino; viene come distruzione da parte dell’Onnipotente." - Isaia usa la frase "il giorno del Signore", che riecheggia il tema del giudizio imminente in Ezechiele 7.

Apocalisse 6:15-17: "Allora i re della terra, i principi, i generali, i ricchi, i potenti e tutti gli altri, schiavi e liberi, si nascosero nelle caverne e tra le rocce dei monti. Gridarono alle montagne e alle rocce: 'Cadete su di noi e nascondeteci dal volto di Colui che siede sul trono e dall'ira dell'Agnello! Poiché è giunto il gran giorno della loro ira; e chi può sopportarlo?'" - Questa visione apocalittica riflette il tipo di terrore e giudizio descritti in Ezechiele 7.
