Deutéronome, 11

1. Tu aimeras Yahweh, ton Dieu, et tu observeras ce qu'il demandede toi, ses lois, ses ordonnances et ses commandements, tous lesjours de ta vie.

1. "Love the LORD, your God, therefore, and always heed his charge: his statutes, decrees and commandments.

2. Reconnaissez aujourd'hui, -- car je ne m'adresse pas àvos enfants, qui ne connaissent pas et qui n'ont pas vu lesleçons de Yahweh,votre Dieu,-- reconnaissez sa grandeur,sa main forte et son bras étendu;

2. It is not your children, who have not known it from experience, but you yourselves who must now understand the discipline of the LORD, your God; his majesty, his strong hand and outstretched arm;

3. ses prodiges et ses oeuvres qu'il a faits au milieu del'Egypte, contre Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, et contre tout sonpays;

3. the signs and deeds he wrought among the Egyptians, on Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and on all his land;

4. ce qu'il a fait à l'armée d'Egypte, à seschevaux et à ses chars, comment il aprécipité sur eux les eaux de la mer Rouge,lorsqu'il vous poursuivaient, et comment Yahweh les adétruits jusqu'à ce jour.

4. what he did to the Egyptian army and to their horses and chariots, engulfing them in the water of the Red Sea as they pursued you, and bringing ruin upon them even to this day;

5. Reconnaissez ce qu'il a fait pour vous dans le désert,jusqu'à votre arrivée en ce lieu;

5. what he did for you in the desert until you arrived in this place;

6. ce qu'il a fait à Dathan et Abiron, fils d'Eliab, filsde Ruben, que la terre, ouvrant sa bouche, engloutit, avec leursmaisons, leurs tentes et toutes les personnes de leur suite, aumilieu de tout Israël.

6. and what he did to the Reubenites Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, when the ground opened its mouth and swallowed them up out of the midst of Israel, with their families and tents and every living thing that belonged to them.

7. Car vos yeux ont vu toutes les grandes oeuvres que Yahweh afaites.

7. With your own eyes you have seen all these great deeds that the LORD has done.

8. Vous observerez donc tous les commandements que je vousprescris aujourd'hui, afin que vous soyez forts, que vous entriezet que vous vous rendiez maîtres du pays où vousallez passer pour en prendre possession,

8. Keep all the commandments, then, which I enjoin on you today, that you may be strong enough to enter in and take possession of the land into which you are crossing,

9. et afin que vous prolongiez vos jours sur la terre que Yahweh ajuré à vous pères de leur donner, àeux et à leur postérité, pays oùcoulent le lait et le miel.

9. and that you may have long life on the land which the LORD swore to your fathers he would give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.

10. Car le pays où tu vas entrer pour le possédern'est pas comme le pays d'Egypte, d'où vous êtessortis, que tu ensemençais et que tu arrosais avec tonpied, comme au jardin potager.

10. "For the land which you are to enter and occupy is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come, where you would sow your seed and then water it by hand, as in a vegetable garden.

11. Mais le pays où vous allez passer pour leposséder est un pays de montagnes et de vallées,qui boit les eaux de la pluie du ciel;

11. No, the land into which you are crossing for conquest is a land of hills and valleys that drinks in rain from the heavens,

12. un pays dont Yahweh, ton Dieu, prend soin, et sur lequelYahweh a continuellement les yeux, depuis le commencement del'année jusqu'à la fin de l'année.

12. a land which the LORD, your God, looks after; his eyes are upon it continually from the beginning of the year to the end.

13. Si vous obéissez à mes commandements que je vousprescris aujourd'hui, aimant Yahweh, votre Dieu, en le servant detout votre coeur et de toute votre âme,

13. If, then, you truly heed my commandments which I enjoin on you today, loving and serving the LORD, your God, with all your heart and all your soul,

14. je donnerai à votre pays la pluie en son temps, lapluie première et celle de la dernière saison, ettu recueilleras ton blé, ton vin nouveau et ton huile;

14. I will give the seasonal rain to your land, the early rain and the late rain, that you may have your grain, wine and oil to gather in;

15. je mettrai aussi de l'herbe dans tes champs pour tonbétail, et tu mangeras et te rassasieras.

15. and I will bring forth grass in your fields for your animals. Thus you may eat your fill.

16. Prenez garde à vous, de peur que votre coeur ne soitséduit, que vous ne vous détourniez et ne serviezd'autres dieux et ne vous prosterniez devant eux.

16. But be careful lest your heart be so lured away that you serve other gods and worship them.

17. La colère de Yahweh s'enflammerait contre vous; ilfermerait le ciel, et il n'y aurait point de pluie; la terre nedonnerait pas ses produits et vous péririez promptementdans le bon pays que Yahweh vous donne.

17. For then the wrath of the LORD will flare up against you and he will close up the heavens, so that no rain will fall, and the soil will not yield its crops, and you will soon perish from the good land he is giving you.

18. Mettez donc sur votre coeur et sur votre âme ces parolesque je vous dis. Vous les lierez comme un signe sur vos mains, etelles seront comme des fronteaux entre vos yeux.

18. "Therefore, take these words of mine into your heart and soul. Bind them at your wrist as a sign, and let them be a pendant on your forehead.

19. Vous les enseignerez à vos enfants, et vous leur enparlerez, soit quand tu resteras dans ta maison, ou que tu irasen voyage, soit quand tu te coucheras ou que tu telèveras.

19. Teach them to your children, speaking of them at home and abroad, whether you are busy or at rest.

20. Tu les écriras sur les poteaux de ta maison et sur tesportes:

20. And write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates,

21. afin que vos jours et les jours de vos enfants, dans le paysque Yahweh a juré à vos pères de leurdonner, soient aussi nombreux que les jours des cieux au-dessusde la terre.

21. so that, as long as the heavens are above the earth, you and your children may live on in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers he would give them.

22. Car si vous observez soigneusement tous ces commandements queje vous prescris d'accomplir, aimant Yahweh, votre Dieu, marchantdans toutes ses voies et vous attachant à lui,

22. "For if you are careful to observe all these commandments I enjoin on you, loving the LORD, your God, and following his ways exactly, and holding fast to him,

23. Yahweh chassera toutes ces nations devant vous, et vous vousrendrez maîtres de nations plus grandes et plus puissantesque vous.

23. the LORD will drive all these nations out of your way, and you will dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.

24. Tout lieu que foulera la plante de vos pieds sera àvous; votre frontière s'étendra du désert auLiban, et du fleuve de l'Euphrate jusqu'à la meroccidentale.

24. Every place where you set foot shall be yours: from the desert and from Lebanon, from the Euphrates River to the Western Sea, shall be your territory.

25. Nul ne tiendra devant vous; Yahweh, votre Dieu,répandra devant vous, comme il vous l'a dit, la crainte etl'effroi sur tout le pays où vous mettrez le pied.

25. None shall stand up against you; the LORD, your God, will spread the fear and dread of you through any land where you set foot, as he promised you.

26. Voici que je mets aujourd'hui devant vous unebénédiction et une malédiction:

26. "I set before you here, this day, a blessing and a curse:

27. la bénédiction, si vous obéissez auxcommandements de Yahweh, votre Dieu, que je vous prescrisaujourd'hui;

27. a blessing for obeying the commandments of the LORD, your God, which I enjoin on you today;

28. la malédiction, si vous n'obéissez pas auxcommandements de Yahweh, votre Dieu, et si vous vousdétournez de la voie que je vous prescris en ce jour, pouraller après d'autres dieux que vous n'avez pas connus.

28. a curse if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD, your God, but turn aside from the way I ordain for you today, to follow other gods, whom you have not known.

29. Et lorsque Yahweh, ton Dieu, t'aura fait entrer dans le paysoù tu vas pour en prendre possession, tu prononceras labénédiction sur le mont Garizim, et lamalédiction sur le mont Ebal.

29. When the LORD, your God, brings you into the land which you are to enter and occupy, then you shall pronounce the blessing on Mount Gerizim, the curse on Mount Ebal.

30. Ces montagnes ne sont-elles pas de l'autre côtédu Jourdain, derrière le chemin de l'occident, au pays desChananéens qui habitent dans l'Arabah, vis-à-vis deGalgala, près des térébinthes deMoré?

30. (Are they not beyond the Jordan, on the other side of the western road in the country of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite the Gilgal beside the terebinth of Moreh?)

31. Car vous allez passer le Jourdain pour entrer en possession dupays que Yahweh, votre Dieu, vous donne; vous leposséderez et vous y habiterez.

31. For you are about to cross the Jordan to enter and occupy the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you. When, therefore, you take possession of it and settle there,

32. Vous aurez donc soin d'observer toutes les lois et toutes lesordonnances que je mets aujourd'hui devant vous.»

32. be careful to observe all the statutes and decrees that I set before you today.
