Exodus 30:12 - "When you make the sum of the children of Israel according to their number, each one will give the Lord the rescue of his soul, when he tells them; so that there is no plague between them when they tell them." This verse is related because it talks about the importance of giving a ransom when telling the people of Israel to avoid a plague.
2 Samuel 24:1-2-"And the wrath of the Lord again lit against Israel, and incited David against them, saying, Go, numbered Israel and Judah.
