1. Voici les chefs de famille - avec leur généalogie, - de ceux qui montèrent avec moi de Babylone, sous le règne du roi Artaxerxès.

1. This is the list of the family heads who returned with me from Babylon during the reign of King Artaxerxes:

2. Des fils de Phinées, Gersom ; des fils d'Ithamar, Daniel ; des fils de David, Hattus,

2. Of the sons of Phinehas, Gershon; of the sons of Ithamar, Daniel; of the sons of David, Hattush,

3. qui descendait de Séchénias; des fils de Pharos, Zacharie, et avec lui cent cinquante mâles inscrits dans le registre de famille.

3. son of Shecaniah; of the sons of Parosh, Zechariah, and with him one hundred and fifty males were enrolled;

13. des fils d'Adonicam, les derniers, dont voici les noms : Eliphélet, Jéhiel et Samaïas, et avec eux soixante mâles ;

13. of the sons of Adonikam, younger sons, whose names were Eliphelet, Jeiel, and Shemaiah, and with them sixty males;

14. des fils de Béguaï, Uthaï et Zachur, et avec eux soixante-dix mâles.

14. of the sons of Bigvai, Uthai, son of Zakkur, and with him seventy males.

15. Je les rassemblai prés de la rivière qui coule vers Ahava, et nous campâmes là trois jours. Ayant porté mon attention sur le peuple et sur les prêtres, je ne trouvai là aucun des fils de Lévi.

15. I had them assemble by the river that flows toward Ahava, where we made camp for three days. There I perceived that both laymen and priests were present, but I could not discover a single Levite.

16. Alors je fis appeler les chefs Eliézer, Ariel, Séméïas, Elnathan, Jarib, un autre Elnathan, Nathan, Zacharie et Mosollam, ainsi que les docteurs Joïarib et Elnathan.

16. Therefore I sent Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah, and Meshullam, wise leaders,

17. Je les envoyai vers le chef Eddo, à l'endroit appelé Chasphia, et je mis dans leur bouche les paroles qu'ils devaient dire à Eddo et à ses frères les Nathinéens qui étaient à l'endroit appelé Chasphia, afin qu'ils nous amenassent des ministres pour la maison de notre Dieu.

17. with a command for Iddo, the leader in the place Casiphia, instructing them what to say to Iddo and his brethren, and to the temple slaves in Casiphia, in order to procure for us ministers for the house of our God.

18. Et comme la main bienfaisante de notre Dieu était sur nous, ils nous amenèrent un homme intelligent, d'entre les fils de Moholi, fils de Lévi, fils d'Israël, savoir Sarabias, et avec lui ses fils et ses frères au nombre de dix-huit ;

18. They sent to us--for the favoring hand of our God was upon us--a well-instructed man, one of the sons of Mahli, son of Levi, son of Israel, namely Sherebiah, with his sons and brethren, eighteen men.

19. Hasabias, et avec lui Isaie, d'entre les fils de Mérari,

19. They also sent us Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah, sons of Merari, and their brethren and their sons, twenty men.

20. ses frères et leurs fils au nombre de vingt ; et d'entre les Nathinéens, que David et les chefs avaient donnés pour le service des lévites, deux cent vingt Nathinéens, tous nominativement désignés.

20. Of the temple slaves (those whom David and the princes appointed to serve the Levites) there were two hundred and twenty. All these men were enrolled by name.

21. Je publiai là, près de la rivière d'Ahava, un jeûne pour nous affliger devant notre Dieu, afin d'implorer de lui un heureux voyage pour nous, pour nos entants et pour tout ce qui nous appartenait.

21. Then I proclaimed a fast, there by the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God to petition from him a safe journey for ourselves, our children, and all our possessions.

22. Car j'aurais eu honte de demander au roi une escorte et des cavaliers pour nous secourir contre l'ennemi pendant la route, parce que nous avions dit au roi : "La main de notre Dieu est pour leur bien sur tous ceux qui le cherchent, mais sa force et sa colère sont sur tous ceux qui l'abandonnent."

22. For I would have been ashamed to ask the king for troops and horsemen to protect us against enemies along the way, since we had said to the king, "The favoring hand of our God is upon all who seek him, but his mighty wrath is against all who forsake him."

23. Et à cause de cela nous jeûnâmes et nous invoquâmes notre Dieu ; et il nous exauça.

23. So we fasted, and prayed to our God for this, and our petition was granted.

24. Je choisis douze chefs des prêtres, Sarabias et Hasabias, et dix de leurs frères.

24. Next I selected twelve of the priestly leaders along with Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren,

25. Je pesai devant eux l'argent, l'or et les ustensiles, offrande qu'avaient prélevée pour la maison de notre Dieu le roi, ses conseillers et ses chefs, et tous ceux d'Israël qui se trouvaient là,

25. and I weighed out before them the silver and the gold and the utensils offered for the house of our God by the king, his counselors, his officials, and all the Israelites of that region.

26. et je pesai, en les remettant entre leurs mains, six cent cinquante talents d'argent, des ustensiles d'argent de la valeur de cent talents, cent talents d'or,

26. I consigned it to them in these amounts: silver, six hundred and fifty talents; silver utensils, one hundred; gold, one hundred talents;

27. vingt coupes d'or de la valeur de mille dariques, et deux vases d'un bel airain brillant, aussi précieux que l'or.

27. twenty golden bowls valued at a thousand darics; two vases of excellent polished bronze, as precious as gold.

28. Et je leur dis : "Vous êtes saints devant Yah-weh, et ces ustensiles sont saints, cet argent et cet or. sont une offrande volontaire à Yahweh, Dieu de vos pères.

28. I addressed them in these words: "You are consecrated to the LORD, and the utensils are also consecrated; the silver and the gold are a free-will offering to the LORD, the God of your fathers.

29. Soyez vigi-lants à les garder, jusqu'à ce que vous les pesiez devant les chefs des prêtres et des lévites, et devant les chefs de famille d' Is-raëI, à Jérusalem, dans les chambres de la maison de Yahweh."

29. Keep good watch over them till you weigh them out in Jerusalem in the presence of the chief priests and Levites and the family leaders of Israel, in the chambers of the house of the LORD."

30. Et les prêtres et les lévites reçurent au poids l'argent, l'or et les ustensiles, pour les porter à Jérusalem dans la maison de notre Dieu.

30. The priests and the Levites then took over the silver, the gold, and the utensils that had been weighed out, to bring them to Jerusalem, to the house of our God.

31. Nous partîmes de la rivière d'Ahava le douzième jour du premier mois, pour nous rendre à Jérusalem. La main de notre Dieu fut sur nous, et nous sauva des mains de l'ennemi et des embûches pendant la route.

31. We set out for Jerusalem from the river of Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month. The hand of our God remained upon us, and he protected us from enemies and bandits along the way.

32. Arrivés à Jérusalem, nous nous y reposâmes trois jours.

32. Thus we arrived in Jerusalem, where we first rested for three days.

33. Le quatrième jour, l'argent, l'or et les ustensiles furent pesés, dans la maison de notre Dieu, entre les mains de Mérimuth, fils d'Urie, le prêtre; il y avait avec lui Eléazar, fils de Phinées et avec eux les lévites Joza-bad, fils de Josué, et Noadias, fils de Bennui.

33. On the fourth day, the silver, the gold, and the utensils were weighed out in the house of our God and consigned to the priest Meremoth, son of Uriah, who was assisted by Eleazar, son of Phinehas; they were assisted by the Levites Jozabad, son of Jeshua, and Noadiah, son of Binnui.

34. Le tout fut livré selon le nombre et selon le poids ; et le poids total fut mis par écrit en ce temps-là.

34. Everything was in order as to number and weight, and the total weight was registered. At that same time,

35. Ceux qui revenaient de l'exil, les fils de la captivité, offrirent en holocauste au Dieu d'Israël douze taureaux pour tout Israël, quatre-vingt-seize béliers, soixante-dix-sept agneaux, douze boucs pour le péché, le tout en holocauste à Yahweh.

35. those who had returned from the captivity, the exiles, offered as holocausts to the God of Israel twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, and twelve goats as sin-offerings: all these as a holocaust to the LORD.

36. Ils transmirent les ordres du roi aux satrapes du roi et aux gouver-neurs d'au delà du fleuve, et ceux-ci soutinrent le peuple et la maison de Dieu.

36. Finally, the orders of the king were presented to the king's satraps and to the governors in West-of-Euphrates, who gave their support to the people and to the house of God.
