Hebrews 8 addresses the theme of the priesthood of Jesus Christ and the superiority of his ministry in relation to the Levitical Priesthood. The chapter also highlights the new covenant established through Jesus Christ and the divine promises that were fulfilled through Him.
2 Corinthians 3:6: "He has enabled us to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter, but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit quickens." This verse highlights the difference between the new covenant established by Jesus Christ and the old law based on the law. The new covenant is governed by the Spirit, while the old covenant was governed by the letter of the law.
Jeremiah 31:31: "Time is coming," says the Lord, "when I will make a new covenant with the community of Israel and the community of Judah." This verse is quoted in Hebrews 8:8-12 to show that the new covenant established by Jesus Christ was prophesied by the prophet Jeremiah. This new covenant is superior to the old covenant established with Israel.
Jeremiah 31:33: "This is the covenant I will do with the community of Israel after those days," says the Lord. "I will put my law in their heart and write it into their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people." This verse is quoted in Hebrews 8:10 to show how the new covenant established by Jesus Christ is different from the old covenant. God's law is no longer written on stone boards, but it is written in the hearts of believers.
Hebrews 7:26: "Such a high priest was in his holy, Holy, inculpable, without macula, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens." This verse highlights the superiority of the priesthood of Jesus Christ in relation to the Levitical Priesthood. Jesus Christ is the Perfect High Priest who offered a unique and perfect sacrifice for the sins of humanity.
Hebrews 9:15: "Therefore Christ is the mediator of a new covenant so that those who are called receive the promise of eternal inheritance, since he died as a rescue by transgressions committed under the first covenant." This verse points out that the death of Jesus Christ was the price paid to establish the new covenant and fulfill divine promises. Through it, those who are called can receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
