1. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

1. By faith we have received true righteousness, and we are at peace with God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

2. By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

2. Through him we obtain this favor in which we remain and we even boast to expect the Glory of God.

3. And not only [so], but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

3. Not only that, we feel secure even in trials, knowing that trials produce patience,

4. And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

4. from patience comes merit, merit is the source of hope,

5. And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

5. and hope does not disappoint us because the Holy Spirit has been given to us, pouring into our hearts the love of God.

6. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

6. Consider, moreover, the time that Christ died for us: when we were still sinners and unable to do anything.

7. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

7. Few would accept to die for an upright person; although, for a very good person, perhaps someone would dare to die.

8. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

8. But see how God manifested his love for us: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us

9. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

9. and we have become just through his blood. With much more reason now he will save us from any condemnation.

10. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

10. Once enemies, we have been reconciled with God through the death of his Son; with much more reason now we may be saved through his life.

11. And not only [so], but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

11. Not only that; we feel secure in God because of Christ Jesus, our Lord, through whom we have been reconciled.

12. Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

12. Now, sin entered the world through one man and through sin, death, and later on death spread to all humankind, because all sinned.

13. (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

13. As long as there was no law, they could not speak of disobedience, but sin was already in the world.

14. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

14. This is why from Adam to Moses death reigned among them, although their sin was not disobedience as in Adam's case - this was not the true Adam, but foretold the other who was to come.

15. But not as the offence, so also [is] the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, [which is] by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

15. Such has been the fall, but God's gift goes far beyond. Multitudes die because of the fault of one man, but how much more does the grace of God spread when the gift he granted reaches the multitudes, from this unique man Jesus Christ.

16. And not as [it was] by one that sinned, [so is] the gift: for the judgment [was] by one to condemnation, but the free gift [is] of many offences unto justification.

16. The gift of God more than compensated for sin. The disobedience that brought condemnation was of one sinner, whereas the grace of God brings forgiveness to a world of sinners.

17. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

17. If death reigned through the disobedience of one and only one person, how much more will there be a reign of life for those who receive the grace and the gift of true righteousness through the one person, Jesus Christ.

18. Therefore as by the offence of one [judgment came] upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one [the free gift came] upon all men unto justification of life.

18. Just as one transgression brought sentence of death to all, so, too, one rehabilitation brought pardon and life to all;

19. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

19. and as the disobedience of only one made many sinners, so the obedience of one person allowed a multitude to be made just and holy.

20. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

20. The Law itself, introduced later on, caused sin to increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,

21. That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

21. and as sin caused death to reign, so grace will reign in its own time, and after making us just and friends of God, will bring us to eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
