Tobit, 1

8. I gave the third tithe to the orphans and widows and to the pagan converts who had joined the Israelites. I gave them every three years and we ate according to the rules which had been laid down on this matter in the Law of Moses, and according to the recommendations made by Deborah, my father's mother, for my father had left me an orphan.

Tobias 1 describes the genealogy of Tobias and his loyalty to the Assyrian king. There are no specific themes in this chapter that may be related to other verses of the Bible. However, there is a mention of Sambalate, a Samaritan governor who is also mentioned in Nehemiah as an opponent of Nehemiah and the Jewish people. Therefore, the verses selected below address hostility between Jews and Samaritans and the importance of loyalty to God.

Ezra 4:1-3: "Now the opponents of Judah and Benjamin learned that the children of captivity built a temple to the Lord, God of Israel. Let them edify with us; for, as you seek your God, and we have offered sacrifices from the days of Esar-Hadom, king of Assyria, who made us come here. But Zerubbabel, Jesua and the other chiefs of houses Paternal of Israel said unto them, You have nothing to do with us in building the house of our God, but we will build it to the Lord, God of Israel, as King Cyrus commanded us, king of Persia. " This verse shows hostility between the Jews and the Samaritans during the reconstruction of the temple in Jerusalem.

Isaiah 44:21: "Remember these things, O Jacob, and you, Israel, because you are my servant: I graduated you, my servant you are, O Israel, I will not forget you." This verse emphasizes God's faithfulness to his chosen people.

Jeremiah 29:13, "You will seek me, and you will find me, when you seek me from all your heart." This verse shows the importance of God's sincere search and its purpose for our lives.
