Genesis, 22

12. "Do not lay your hand on the boy," said the messenger. "Do not do the least thing to him. I know now how devoted you are to God, since you did not withhold from me your own beloved son."

Genesis 22 tells Abraham's story being tested by God when asked to sacrifice his son Isaac as a holocaust. Abraham obeys and prepares to do so, but at the last moment, an angel prevents the sacrifice and provides a ram to be sacrificed instead.
