26. The king said to Abiathar the priest: "Go to your land in Anathoth. Though you deserve to die, I will not put you to death this time, because you carried the ark of the Lord GOD before my father David and shared in all the hardships my father endured."

Chapter 2 of 1 kings deals with the death of King David and the succession of the throne by Solomon, his son.
