Romans, 3

1. What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit [is there] of circumcision?

1. Mitä etuuksia on siis juutalaisilla, tai mitä hyötyä ympärileikkauksesta?

2. Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

2. Paljonkin, kaikin tavoin; ennen kaikkea se, että heille on uskottu, mitä Jumala on puhunut.

3. For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

3. Mutta kuinka? Jos jotkut ovat olleet epäuskoisia, ei kaiketi heidän epäuskonsa ole Jumalan uskollisuutta tyhjäksi tekevä?

4. God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

4. Pois se! Olkoon Jumala totinen, mutta jokainen ihminen valhettelija, niinkuin kirjoitettu on: "Että sinut havaittaisiin vanhurskaaksi sanoissasi ja että voittaisit, kun sinun kanssasi oikeutta käydään."

5. But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? [Is] God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)

5. Mutta jos meidän vääryytemme tuo ilmi Jumalan vanhurskauden, mitä me siihen sanomme? Ei kaiketi Jumala ole väärä, kun hän rankaisee vihassansa? Minä puhun ihmisten tavalla.

6. God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?

6. Pois se! Sillä kuinka Jumala silloin voisi tuomita maailman?

7. For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?

7. Sillä jos Jumalan totuus tulee minun valheeni kautta selvemmin julki hänen kirkkaudekseen, miksi sitten minutkin vielä syntisenä tuomitaan?

8. And not [rather], (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

8. Ja miksi emme tekisi, niinkuin herjaten syyttävät meidän tekevän ja niinkuin muutamat väittävät meidän sanovan: "Tehkäämme pahaa, että siitä hyvää tulisi"? Niiden tuomio on oikea.

9. What then? are we better [than they]? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

9. Miten siis on? Olemmeko me parempia? Emme suinkaan. Mehän olemme edellä osoittaneet, että kaikki, niin hyvin juutalaiset kuin kreikkalaiset, ovat synnin alla,

10. As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

10. niinkuin kirjoitettu on: "Ei ole ketään vanhurskasta, ei ainoatakaan,

11. There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

11. ei ole ketään ymmärtäväistä, ei ketään, joka etsii Jumalaa;

12. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

12. kaikki ovat poikenneet pois, kaikki tyynni kelvottomiksi käyneet; ei ole ketään, joka tekee sitä, mikä hyvä on, ei yhden yhtäkään.

13. Their throat [is] an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps [is] under their lips:

13. Heidän kurkkunsa on avoin hauta, kielellänsä he pettävät, kyykäärmeen myrkkyä on heidän huultensa alla;

14. Whose mouth [is] full of cursing and bitterness:

14. heidän suunsa on täynnä kirousta ja katkeruutta.

15. Their feet [are] swift to shed blood:

15. Heidän jalkansa ovat nopeat vuodattamaan verta,

16. Destruction and misery [are] in their ways:

16. hävitys ja kurjuus on heidän teillänsä,

17. And the way of peace have they not known:

17. ja rauhan tietä he eivät tunne.

18. There is no fear of God before their eyes.

18. Ei ole Jumalan pelko heidän silmäinsä edessä."

19. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

19. Mutta me tiedämme, että kaiken, minkä laki sanoo, sen se puhuu lain alaisille, että jokainen suu tukittaisiin ja koko maailma tulisi syylliseksi Jumalan edessä;

20. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law [is] the knowledge of sin.

20. sentähden, ettei mikään liha tule hänen edessään vanhurskaaksi lain teoista; sillä lain kautta tulee synnin tunto.

21. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

21. Mutta nyt Jumalan vanhurskaus, josta laki ja profeetat todistavat, on ilmoitettu ilman lakia,

22. Even the righteousness of God [which is] by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

22. se Jumalan vanhurskaus, joka uskon kautta Jeesukseen Kristukseen tulee kaikkiin ja kaikille, jotka uskovat; sillä ei ole yhtään erotusta.

23. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

23. Sillä kaikki ovat syntiä tehneet ja ovat Jumalan kirkkautta vailla

24. Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

24. ja saavat lahjaksi vanhurskauden hänen armostaan sen lunastuksen kautta, joka on Kristuksessa Jeesuksessa,

25. Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

25. jonka Jumala on asettanut armoistuimeksi uskon kautta hänen vereensä, osoittaaksensa vanhurskauttaan, koska hän oli jättänyt rankaisematta ennen tehdyt synnit

26. To declare, [I say], at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

26. jumalallisessa kärsivällisyydessään, osoittaaksensa vanhurskauttaan nykyajassa, sitä, että hän itse on vanhurskas ja vanhurskauttaa sen, jolla on usko Jeesukseen.

27. Where [is] boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

27. Missä siis on kerskaaminen? Se on suljettu pois. Minkä lain kautta? Tekojenko lain? Ei, vaan uskon lain kautta.

28. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

28. Niin päätämme siis, että ihminen vanhurskautetaan uskon kautta, ilman lain tekoja.

29. [Is he] the God of the Jews only? [is he] not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:

29. Vai onko Jumala yksistään juutalaisten Jumala? Eikö pakanainkin? On pakanainkin,

30. Seeing [it is] one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

30. koskapa Jumala on yksi, joka vanhurskauttaa ympärileikatut uskosta ja ympärileikkaamattomat uskon kautta.

31. Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

31. Teemmekö siis lain mitättömäksi uskon kautta? Pois se! Vaan me vahvistamme lain.
