2 Samuel, 21

4. And the Gabaonites said to him: We have no contest about silver and gold, but against Saul and against his house: neither do we desire that any man be slain of Israel. And the king said to them: What will you then that I should do for you?

2 Samuel 21 describes how David faced hunger in Israel, which lasted for three years. Deuteronomy 7:9: "Thou shalt know that the Lord thy God is God, the faithful God, who keeps the covenant and mercy toward those who love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations."
