Deuteronomy, 11

1. 'You must love Yahweh your God and always keep his observances, his laws, his customs, his commandments.

1. Darum sollst du den Herrn, deinen Gott, lieben und dein Leben lang auf seine Dienstordnung, auf seine Gesetze, Rechtsvorschriften und Gebote achten.

2. You are the ones who have had the experience, not your children. They have not had the experience, they have not witnessed the lessons of Yahweh your God, his greatness, his mighty hand and his outstretched arm,

2. Heute sollt ihr erkennen, dass der Herr euch erzogen hat. Denn nicht eure Kinder, die die Erziehung durch den Herrn, euren Gott, nicht kennen gelernt und nicht miterlebt haben, sondern ihr selbst habt alle großen Taten, die der Herr getan hat, mit eigenen Augen gesehen, seine Macht, seine starke Hand und seinen hoch erhobenen Arm,

3. the signs and the deeds which he performed in the heart of Egypt, against Pharaoh king of Egypt and his entire country,

3. seine Zeichen und seine Taten: was er in Ägypten mit dem Pharao, dem König von Ägypten, und mit seinem ganzen Land getan hat;

4. what he did to the armies of Egypt, to their horses and their chariots, by overwhelming them with the waters of the Sea of Reeds when they were pursuing you, and leaving no trace of them to this day;

4. was er mit dem ägyptischen Heer, den Rossen und Streitwagen getan hat - das Wasser des Schilfmeers ließ der Herr über ihnen zusammenschlagen, als sie euch nachsetzten, und er riss sie in die Tiefe, sodass sie heute nicht mehr sind -;

5. what he did for you in the desert, until you arrived here;

5. was er mit euch in der Wüste getan hat, bis ihr an diesen Ort gekommen seid;

6. what he did to Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when, with all Israel standing round, the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, with their families, their tents and all their supporters.

6. was er mit Datan und Abiram getan hat, den Söhnen Eliabs, des Sohnes Rubens - die Erde riss ihren Rachen auf und verschlang sie mit ihren Familien, ihren Zelten und ihrem ganzen Tross in der Mitte von ganz Israel.

7. All these great deeds of Yahweh you have seen with your own eyes.

8. 'You must keep all the commandments which I enjoin on you today, so that you may have the strength to conquer the country into which you are about to cross, to take possession of it,

8. Daher sollt ihr auf das ganze Gebot, auf das ich dich heute verpflichte, achten, damit ihr stark seid und in das Land, in das ihr jetzt hinüberzieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, hineinziehen und es in Besitz nehmen könnt.

9. and so that you may live long in the country which Yahweh promised on oath to bestow on your ancestors and their descendants, a country flowing with milk and honey.

9. Ihr sollt darauf achten, damit ihr lange lebt in dem Land, von dem ihr wißt: Der Herr hat euren Vätern geschworen, es ihnen und ihren Nachkommen zu geben, ein Land, in dem Milch und Honig fließen.

10. 'For the country which you are about to enter and make your own is not like the country of Egypt from which you have come, where, having done your sowing, you had to water the seed by foot, as though in a vegetable garden.

10. Denn das Land, in das du hineinziehst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, ist nicht wie das Land Ägypten, aus dem ihr ausgezogen seid. Dort musstest du, wenn der Same gesät war, den Boden künstlich bewässern wie in einem Gemüsegarten.

11. No, the country which you are about to enter and make your own, is a country of hills and valleys watered by the rain of heaven.

11. Das Land, in das ihr jetzt hinüberzieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, ist ein Land mit Bergen und Tälern und es trinkt das Wasser, das als Regen vom Himmel fällt.

12. Yahweh your God looks after this country, the eyes of Yahweh your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the end.

12. Es ist ein Land, um das der Herr, dein Gott, sich kümmert. Stets ruhen auf ihm die Augen des Herrn, deines Gottes, vom Anfang des Jahres bis zum Ende des Jahres.

13. Depend on it: if you faithfully obey the commandments I enjoin on you today, loving Yahweh your God and serving him with all your heart and all your soul,

13. Und wenn ihr auf meine Gebote hört, auf die ich euch heute verpflichte, wenn ihr also den Herrn, euren Gott, liebt und ihm mit ganzem Herzen und mit ganzer Seele dient,

14. I shall give your country rain at the right time, rain in autumn, rain in spring, so that you can harvest your wheat, your new wine and your oil.

14. dann gebe ich eurem Land seinen Regen zur rechten Zeit, den Regen im Herbst und den Regen im Frühjahr, und du kannst Korn, Most und Öl ernten;

15. I shall provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat to your heart's content.

15. dann gebe ich deinem Vieh sein Gras auf dem Feld und du kannst essen und satt werden.

16. Beware of letting your heart be seduced: if you go astray, serve other gods and bow down to them,

16. Aber nehmt euch in Acht! Lasst euer Herz nicht verführen, weicht nicht vom Weg ab, dient nicht anderen Göttern und werft euch nicht vor ihnen nieder!

17. Yahweh's anger will be kindled against you, he will shut the heavens, there will be no more rain, the soil will not yield its produce and, in the fine country given you by Yahweh, you will quickly perish.

17. Sonst wird der Zorn des Herrn gegen euch entbrennen; er wird den Himmel zuschließen, es wird kein Regen fallen, der Acker wird keinen Ertrag bringen und ihr werdet unverzüglich aus dem prächtigen Land getilgt sein, das der Herr euch geben will.

18. 'Let these words of mine remain in your heart and in your soul; fasten them on your hand as a sign and on your forehead as a headband.

18. Diese meine Worte sollt ihr auf euer Herz und auf eure Seele schreiben. Ihr sollt sie als Zeichen um das Handgelenk binden. Sie sollen zum Schmuck auf eurer Stirn werden.

19. Teach them to your children, and keep on telling them, when you are sitting at home, when you are out and about, when you are lying down and when you are standing up.

19. Ihr sollt sie eure Söhne lehren, indem ihr von ihnen redet, wenn du zu Hause sitzt und wenn du auf der Straße gehst, wenn du dich schlafen legst und wenn du aufstehst.

20. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates,

20. Du sollst sie auf die Türpfosten deines Hauses und in deine Stadttore schreiben.

21. so that you and your children may live long in the country which Yahweh swore to your ancestors that he would give them for as long as there is a sky above the earth.

21. So sollen die Tage, die ihr und eure Söhne in dem Land lebt, von dem ihr wißt: der Herr hat euren Vätern geschworen, es ihnen zu geben, so zahlreich werden wie die Tage, die der Himmel sich über der Erde wölbt.

22. 'For if you faithfully keep and observe all these commandments that I enjoin on you today, loving Yahweh your God, following all his ways and holding fast to him,

22. Wenn ihr auf dieses ganze Gebot, auf das ich euch heute verpflichte, genau achtet und es haltet, wenn ihr den Herrn, euren Gott, liebt, auf allen seinen Wegen geht und euch an ihm fest haltet,

23. Yahweh will dispossess all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and more powerful than yourselves.

23. dann wird der Herr alle diese Völker vor euch vertreiben und ihr werdet den Besitz von Völkern übernehmen, die größer und mächtiger sind als ihr.

24. Wherever the sole of your foot treads will be yours; your territory will run from the desert all the way to the Lebanon; and from the River, from the River Euphrates, as far as the Western Sea, will be your territory.

24. Jede Stelle, die euer Fuß berührt, soll euch gehören, von der Wüste an. Dazu soll der Libanon euer Gebiet sein, vom Strom, dem Eufrat, bis zum Meer im Westen.

25. No one will be able to resist you; Yahweh your God will make you feared and dreaded throughout the territory you tread, as he has promised you.

25. Keiner wird eurem Angriff standhalten können. Dem ganzen Land, das ihr betretet, wird der Herr, euer Gott, Schrecken und Furcht vor euch ins Gesicht zeichnen, wie er es euch zugesagt hat.

26. 'Today, look, I am offering you a blessing and a curse:

26. Seht, heute werde ich euch den Segen und den Fluch vorlegen:

27. a blessing, if you obey the commandments of Yahweh your God which I enjoin on you today;

27. den Segen, weil ihr auf die Gebote des Herrn, eures Gottes, auf die ich euch heute verpflichte, hört,

28. a curse, if you disobey the commandments of Yahweh your God and leave the way which today I have marked out for you, by following other gods hitherto unknown to you.

28. und den Fluch für den Fall, dass ihr nicht auf die Gebote des Herrn, eures Gottes, hört, sondern von dem Weg abweicht, den ich euch heute vorschreibe, und anderen Göttern nachfolgt, die ihr früher nicht gekannt habt.

29. And when Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are about to enter and make your own, you must set the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.

29. Und wenn der Herr, dein Gott, dich in das Land geführt hat, in das du jetzt hineinziehst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, dann sollst du auf dem Berg Garizim den Segen und auf dem Berg Ebal den Fluch verkünden.

30. (These mountains, as everyone knows, are on the other side of the Jordan on the westward road, in the territory of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, near the Oak of Moreh.)

30. [Liegen denn beide nicht jenseits des Jordan, hinter der Straße, im Westen, im Gebiet der Kanaaniter, die in der Araba wohnen, gegenüber Gilgal bei den Orakel-Eichen?]

31. For you are about to cross the Jordan, to enter and take possession of the country given you by Yahweh your God. You will possess it, you will live in it,

31. Wenn ihr jetzt den Jordan überschreitet, um in das Land, das der Herr, euer Gott, euch gibt, hineinzuziehen und es in Besitz zu nehmen, und wenn ihr es in Besitz genommen habt und es bewohnt,

32. and you must keep and observe all the laws and customs promulgated by me to you today.'

32. dann sollt ihr auf alle Gesetze und Rechtsvorschriften, die ich euch heute vorlege, achten und sie halten.
