Leviticus, 11

1. Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron and said to them,

2. 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "Of all animals living on land these are the creatures you may eat:

3. "You may eat any animal that has a cloven hoof, divided into two parts, and that is a ruminant.

3. Alle Tiere, die gespaltene Klauen haben, Paarzeher sind und wiederkäuen, dürft ihr essen.

4. The following, which either chew the cud or have a cloven hoof, are the ones that you may not eat: you will regard the camel as unclean, because though it is ruminant, it does not have a cloven hoof;

4. Jedoch dürft ihr von den Tieren, die wiederkäuen oder gespaltene Klauen haben, Folgende nicht essen: Ihr sollt für unrein halten das Kamel, weil es zwar wiederkäut, aber keine gespaltenen Klauen hat;

5. you will regard the coney as unclean, because though it is ruminant, it does not have a cloven hoof;

5. ihr sollt für unrein halten den Klippdachs, weil er zwar wiederkäut, aber keine gespaltenen Klauen hat;

6. you will regard the hare as unclean, because though it is ruminant, it does not have a cloven hoof;

6. ihr sollt für unrein halten den Hasen, weil er zwar wiederkäut, aber keine gespaltenen Klauen hat;

7. you will regard the pig as unclean, because though it has a cloven hoof, divided into two parts, it is not a ruminant.

7. ihr sollt für unrein halten das Wildschwein, weil es zwar gespaltene Klauen hat und Paarzeher ist, aber nicht wiederkäut.

8. You will not eat the meat of these or touch their dead bodies; you will regard them as unclean.

8. Ihr dürft von ihrem Fleisch nicht essen und ihr Aas nicht berühren; ihr sollt sie für unrein halten.

9. "Of all that lives in water, these you may eat: "Anything that has fins and scales, and lives in the water, whether in sea or river, you may eat.

9. Von allen Tieren, die im Wasser leben, dürft ihr essen; alle Tiere mit Flossen und Schuppen, die im Wasser, in Meeren und Flüssen leben, dürft ihr essen.

10. But anything in sea or river that does not have fins and scales, of all the small water-creatures and all the living things found there, you will regard as detestable.

10. Aber alles, was in Meeren oder Flüssen lebt, alles Kleingetier des Wassers und alle Lebewesen, die im Wasser leben und keine Flossen oder Schuppen haben, seien euch abscheulich.

11. You will regard them as detestable; you must not eat their meat and you will regard their carcases as detestable.

11. Ihr sollt sie als abscheulich ansehen; von ihrem Fleisch dürft ihr nicht essen und ihr Aas sollt ihr verabscheuen.

12. Anything that lives in water, but not having fins and scales, you will regard as detestable.

12. Alles, was ohne Flossen oder Schuppen im Wasser lebt, haltet für abscheulich!

13. "Of the birds these are the ones that you will regard as detestable; they may not be eaten, they are detestable for eating: "The tawny vulture, the griffon, the osprey,

13. Unter den Vögeln sollt ihr Folgende verabscheuen - man darf sie nicht essen, sie sind abscheulich: Aasgeier, Schwarzgeier, Bartgeier,

14. the kite, the various kinds of buzzard,

14. Milan, die verschiedenen Bussardarten,

15. all kinds of raven,

15. alle Arten des Raben,

16. the ostrich, the screech owl, the seagull, the various kinds of hawk,

16. Adlereule, Kurzohreule, Langohreule und die verschiedenen Falkenarten,

17. horned owl, night owl, cormorant, barn owl,

17. Kauz, Fischeule, Bienenfresser,

18. ibis, pelican, white vulture,

18. Weißeule, Kleineule, Fischadler,

19. stork, the various kinds of heron, the hoopoe and the bat.

20. "All winged insects moving on four feet you will regard as detestable for eating.

20. Alle Kleintiere mit Flügeln und vier Füßen seien euch abscheulich.

21. Of all these winged insects you may eat only the following: those with the sort of legs above their feet which enable them to leap over the ground.

21. Von diesen Kleintieren mit Flügeln und vier Füßen dürft ihr aber jene essen, die Springbeine haben, um damit auf dem Boden zu hüpfen.

22. These are the ones you may eat: the various kinds of migratory locust, the various kinds of solham locust, hargol locust and hagab locust.

22. Von ihnen dürft ihr die verschiedenen Arten der Wanderheuschrecke, der Solam-, der Hargol- und der Hagab-Heuschrecke essen.

23. But all other winged insects on four feet you will regard as detestable for eating.

23. Alle übrigen Kleintiere mit Flügeln und vier Füßen aber seien euch abscheulich.

24. "By the following you will be made unclean. Anyone who touches the carcase of one will be unclean until evening.

24. An diesen Tieren verunreinigt ihr euch; jeder, der ihr Aas berührt, wird unrein bis zum Abend.

25. Anyone who picks up their carcases must wash his clothing and will be unclean until evening.

25. Jeder, der ihr Aas trägt, muss seine Kleider waschen und ist unrein bis zum Abend.

26. Animals that have hoofs, but not cloven, and that are not ruminant, you will regard as unclean; anyone who touches them will be unclean.

26. Alle Tiere mit gespaltenen Klauen, die aber nicht Paarzeher sind und nicht wiederkäuen, sollt ihr für unrein halten; jeder, der sie berührt, wird unrein.

27. Those four-footed animals which walk on the flat of their paws you will regard as unclean; anyone who touches their carcases will be unclean until evening,

27. Alle Vierfüßler, die auf Pfoten gehen, sollt ihr für unrein halten; jeder, der ihr Aas berührt, wird unrein bis zum Abend,

28. and anyone who picks up their carcases must wash his clothing and will be unclean until evening. You will regard them as unclean.

28. und wer ihr Aas trägt, muss seine Kleider waschen und ist unrein bis zum Abend. Ihr sollt sie für unrein halten.

29. "Of the small creatures which crawl along the ground, these are the ones which you will regard as unclean: the mole, the rat, the various kinds of lizard:

29. Unter dem Kleingetier, das auf dem Boden kriecht, sollt ihr für unrein halten den Maulwurf, die Maus und die verschiedenen Arten der Eidechsen,

30. gecko, koah, letaah, chameleon and tinshamet.

30. nämlich den Gecko, die Koach- und die Letaa-Eidechse, den Salamander und das Chamäleon.

31. "Of all the small creatures, these are the animals which you must regard as disgusting. Anyone who touches them when they are dead will be unclean until evening.

31. Unter allem Kleingetier sollt ihr diese für unrein halten. Jeder, der sie berührt, wenn sie tot sind, ist unrein bis zum Abend.

32. "Any object on which one of these creatures falls when it is dead becomes unclean: wooden utensil, clothing, skin, sacking, any utensil whatever. It must be immersed in water and will remain unclean until evening: then it will be clean.

32. Jeder Gegenstand, auf den eines dieser Tiere fällt, wenn sie tot sind, wird unrein, jedes Holzgerät, Kleid, Fell, grobes Zeug und jeder Gebrauchsgegenstand. Man muss einen solchen Gegenstand in Wasser tauchen; er ist unrein bis zum Abend und erst dann wieder rein.

33. If the creature falls into an earthenware vessel, the vessel must be broken; whatever the vessel contains is unclean.

33. Jedes Tongefäß, in das ein solches Tier fällt, müsst ihr zerbrechen und sein Inhalt ist unrein.

34. Any edible food will be unclean if the water touches it; any drinkable liquid will be unclean, no matter what its container.

34. Jede Speise, die man essen will, wird unrein, wenn Wasser aus einem solchen Gefäß darauf kommt; jedes Getränk, das man trinken will, wird durch ein solches Gefäß unrein.

35. Anything on which the carcase of such a creature may fall will be unclean: be it oven or stove, it must be destroyed; for they are unclean and you will regard them as unclean

35. Alles, worauf ein Aas von ihnen fällt, wird unrein; ein Backofen und ein kleiner Herd müssen niedergerissen werden, denn sie sind unrein und als unrein sollen sie euch gelten.

36. (although springs, wells and stretches of water will remain clean); anyone who touches one of their carcases will be unclean.

36. Nur eine Quelle und eine Zisterne mit angesammeltem Wasser bleiben rein. Jeder, der ein Aas von jenen Tieren berührt, wird unrein.

37. If one of their carcases falls on any kind of seed, the seed will remain clean;

37. Wenn ein Aas von ihnen auf irgendeinen Samen fällt, der gesät werden soll, so bleibt er rein.

38. but if the seed has been moistened and one of their carcases falls on it, you will regard it as unclean.

38. Wenn aber das Korn mit Wasser befeuchtet war und ein solches Aas darauf fällt, sollt ihr es für unrein halten.

39. "If one of the animals that you use as food dies, anyone who touches the carcase will be unclean until evening;

39. Wenn eines der Tiere, das euch zur Nahrung dient, verendet, so wird der, der sein Aas berührt, unrein bis zum Abend.

40. anyone who eats any of the carcase must wash his clothing and will remain unclean until evening; anyone who picks up the carcase must wash his clothing and will remain unclean until evening.

40. Wer von solchem Fleisch isst, muss seine Kleider waschen und ist unrein bis zum Abend; wer solches Aas trägt, muss seine Kleider waschen und ist unrein bis zum Abend.

41. "Any creature that swarms on the ground is detestable for eating; it must not be eaten.

41. Jedes Kleintier, das sich auf dem Boden bewegt, ist abscheulich und darf nicht gegessen werden.

42. Anything that moves on its belly, anything that moves on four legs or more -- in short all the creatures that swarm on the ground -- you will not eat, since they are detestable.

42. Alles, was sich auf dem Bauch oder auf vier und mehr Füßen fortbewegt, kurz alles Kleingetier, das sich auf dem Boden bewegt, dürft ihr nicht essen, denn es ist abscheulich.

43. Do not make yourselves detestable with all these swarming creatures; do not defile yourselves with them, do not be defiled by them.

43. Macht euch nicht selbst abscheulich mit all diesem Gewimmel von Kleintieren und macht euch durch sie nicht unrein, indem ihr euch durch sie verunreinigen lasst.

44. For it is I, Yahweh, who am your God. You have been sanctified and have become holy because I am holy: do not defile yourselves with all these creatures that swarm on the ground.

44. Denn ich bin der Herr, euer Gott. Erweist euch als heilig, und seid heilig, weil ich heilig bin. Verunreinigt euch daher nicht selbst durch alle diese Kleintiere, die auf dem Boden kriechen.

45. Yes, it is I, Yahweh, who brought you out of Egypt to be your God: you must therefore be holy because I am holy." '

45. Denn ich bin der Herr, der euch aus Ägypten heraufgeführt hat, um euer Gott zu sein. Ihr sollt daher heilig sein, weil ich heilig bin.

46. Such is the law concerning animals, birds, all living creatures that move in water and all creatures that swarm on the ground.

46. Das ist das Gesetz über das Vieh, die Vögel, alle Lebewesen, die sich im Wasser bewegen, und alle Lebewesen, die auf dem Boden kriechen.

47. Its purpose is to distinguish the clean from the unclean, the creatures that may be eaten from those that may not be eaten.

47. So soll man das Unreine und das Reine unterscheiden, die Tiere, die man essen darf, und jene, die man nicht essen darf.
