Deuteronomy, 31

1. Moses went and spoke to all Israel as follows,

1. Mose trat vor ganz Israel hin und sprach diese Worte.

2. 'Today, I am one hundred and twenty years old, and can no longer act as leader. Yahweh has told me, "You shall not cross this Jordan."

2. Er sagte zu ihnen: Ich bin jetzt hundertzwanzig Jahre alt. Ich kann nicht mehr in den Kampf ziehen. Auch hat der Herr zu mir gesagt: Du wirst den Jordan hier nicht überschreiten.

3. Yahweh your God himself will lead you across, he himself will destroy and dispossess these nations confronting you; Joshua too will lead you across, as Yahweh has said.

3. Der Herr, dein Gott, zieht selbst vor dir hinüber, er selbst vernichtet diese Völker bei deinem Angriff, sodass du ihren Besitz übernehmen kannst. Josua zieht vor dir hinüber, wie es der Herr zugesagt hat.

4. Yahweh will treat them as he has treated Sihon and Og the Amorite kings and their country -- he destroyed them.

4. Der Herr wird an ihnen tun, was er an Sihon und Og, den Amoriterkönigen, die er vernichtete, und an ihrem Land getan hat.

5. Yahweh will put them at your mercy, and you will deal with them exactly as prescribed by the commandments which I have laid down for you.

5. Der Herr wird sie euch ausliefern: Dann sollt ihr an ihnen genau nach dem Gebot handeln, auf das ich euch verpflichtet habe.

6. Be strong, stand firm, have no fear, do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is going with you; he will not fail you or desert you.'

6. Empfangt Macht und Stärke: Fürchtet euch nicht und weicht nicht erschreckt zurück, wenn sie angreifen; denn der Herr, dein Gott, zieht mit dir. Er lässt dich nicht fallen und verlässt dich nicht.

7. Moses then summoned Joshua and, in the presence of all Israel, said to him, 'Be strong, stand firm; you will be the one to go with this people into the country which Yahweh has sworn to their ancestors that he would give them; you are to be the one who puts them into possession of it.

7. Mose rief Josua herbei und sagte vor den Augen ganz Israels zu ihm: Empfange Macht und Stärke: Du sollst mit diesem Volk in das Land hineinziehen, von dem du weißt: Der Herr hat ihren Vätern geschworen, es ihnen zu geben. Du sollst es an sie als Erbbesitz verteilen.

8. Yahweh himself will lead you; he will be with you; he will not fail you or desert you. Have no fear, do not be alarmed.'

8. Der Herr selbst zieht vor dir her. Er ist mit dir. Er lässt dich nicht fallen und verlässt dich nicht. Du sollst dich nicht fürchten und keine Angst haben.

9. Moses committed this Law to writing and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of Yahweh's covenant, and to all the elders of Israel.

9. Mose schrieb diese Weisung auf und übergab sie den Priestern, den Nachkommen Levis, die die Lade des Bundes des Herrn trugen, und allen Ältesten Israels.

10. And Moses gave them this command, 'At the end of every seven years, at the time fixed for the year of remission, at the feast of Shelters,

10. Mose schrieb ihnen vor: In jedem siebten Jahr, in einer der Festzeiten des Brachjahres, beim Laubhüttenfest,

11. when all Israel assembles in the presence of Yahweh your God in the place chosen by him, you must proclaim this Law in the hearing of all Israel.

11. wenn ganz Israel zusammenkommt, um an der Stätte, die der Herr auswählt, das Angesicht des Herrn, deines Gottes zu schauen, sollst du diese Weisung vor ganz Israel laut vortragen.

12. Call the people together, men, women, children, and the foreigner residing with you, so that, hearing it, they may learn to fear Yahweh your God and keep and observe all the words of this Law.

12. Versammle das Volk - die Männer und Frauen, Kinder und Greise, dazu die Fremden, die in deinen Stadtbereichen Wohnrecht haben -, damit sie zuhören und auswendig lernen und den Herrn, euren Gott, fürchten und darauf achten, dass sie alle Bestimmungen dieser Weisung halten.

13. Their children, who as yet do not know it, will hear it and learn to fear Yahweh your God, all the time you live in the country which you are crossing the Jordan to possess.'

13. Vor allem ihre Kinder, die das alles noch nicht kennen, sollen zuhören und lernen, den Herrn, euren Gott, zu fürchten. Das sollt ihr so lange tun, wie ihr in dem Land lebt, in das ihr jetzt über den Jordan hinüberzieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen.

14. Yahweh said to Moses, 'And now the time is near when you must die. Summon Joshua and take your places at the Tent of Meeting, so that I can give him his orders.' Moses and Joshua went and took their places at the Tent of Meeting,

14. Der Herr sagte zu Mose: Sieh, deine Zeit ist gekommen: Du wirst sterben. Ruf Josua und tritt mit ihm in das Offenbarungszelt, damit ich ihn einsetzen kann. Mose und Josua gingen hin und traten in das Offenbarungszelt hinein.

15. and Yahweh showed himself at the Tent in a pillar of cloud; the pillar of cloud stood at the door of the Tent.

15. Der Herr erschien ihnen am Zelt in einer Wolkensäule. Die Wolkensäule stand über dem Eingang des Zeltes.

16. Yahweh said to Moses, 'You will soon be sleeping with your ancestors, and this people is about to play the harlot by following the gods of the foreigners of the country, among whom they are going to live. They will desert me and break my covenant, which I have made with them.

16. Und der Herr sagte zu Mose: Sieh, du wirst jetzt bald zu deinen Vätern gebettet werden. Dann wird dieses Volk sich erheben; man wird in seiner Mitte Unzucht treiben, indem man den fremden Göttern des Landes nachfolgt, in das es jetzt hineinzieht, es wird mich verlassen und den Bund brechen, den ich mit ihm geschlossen habe.

17. That very day, my anger will blaze against them; I shall desert them and hide my face from them. A host of disasters and misfortunes will overtake them to devour them, and when that day comes they will say, "If such disasters overtake me, surely Yahweh my God cannot be with me?"

17. An jenem Tag wird mein Zorn gegen sie entbrennen. Ich werde sie verlassen und mein Angesicht vor ihnen verbergen. Dann wird dieses Volk verzehrt werden. Not und Zwang jeder Art werden es treffen. An jenem Tag wird es sich fragen: Hat mich diese Not nicht deshalb getroffen, weil mein Gott nicht mehr in meiner Mitte ist?

18. Yes indeed, I shall hide my face that day, on account of all the evil which they will have done by turning to other gods.

18. Aber ich werde an jenem Tag mein Angesicht nur noch mehr verbergen wegen all des Bösen, das dieses Volk getan hat; denn es hat sich anderen Göttern zugewandt.

19. 'Now write down this song for you to use; teach it to the Israelites, put it into their mouths, for it to be a witness on my behalf against the Israelites:

19. Doch jetzt schreibt dieses Lied auf! Lehre es die Israeliten! Lass es sie auswendig lernen, damit dieses Lied mein Zeuge gegen die Israeliten werde.

20. against Israel, whom I am bringing into the country which I swore to his ancestors that I would give him, a country flowing with milk and honey: against Israel, who will eat to his heart's content and grow fat, and will then turn to other gods and serve them, despising me and breaking my covenant.

20. Wenn ich dieses Volk in das Land geführt habe, das ich seinen Vätern mit einem Schwur versprochen habe, in das Land, wo Milch und Honig fließen, und wenn es gegessen hat und satt und fett geworden ist und sich anderen Göttern zugewandt hat, wenn sie ihnen gedient und mich verworfen haben und es so meinen Bund gebrochen hat,

21. When a host of disasters and misfortunes overtakes him, this song, like a witness, will give evidence against him, since his descendants will not have forgotten it. Yes, even today, before I have brought him to the country which I have promised him on oath, I know what plans he has in mind.'

21. dann wird, wenn Not und Zwang jeder Art es treffen, dieses Lied vor ihm als Zeuge aussagen; denn seine Nachkommen werden es nicht vergessen, sondern es auswendig wissen. Ich kenne seine Neigung, die sich schon heute regt, noch ehe ich es in das Land gebracht habe, das ich mit einem Schwur versprochen habe.

22. So, that day, Moses wrote out this song and taught it to the Israelites.

22. An jenem Tag schrieb Mose dieses Lied auf und lehrte es die Israeliten.

23. To Joshua son of Nun, Yahweh gave this order, 'Be strong and stand firm, for you are to be the one to bring the Israelites into the country which I have promised them on oath, and I myself shall be with you.'

23. Der Herr aber setzte Josua, den Sohn Nuns, in sein Amt ein und sagte: Empfange Macht und Stärke: Du sollst die Israeliten in das Land führen, das ich ihnen mit einem Schwur versprochen habe. Ich werde bei dir sein.

24. When Moses had completely finished writing the words of this Law in a book,

24. Als Mose damit zu Ende war, den Text dieser Weisung in eine Urkunde einzutragen, ohne irgendetwas auszulassen,

25. he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of Yahweh's covenant:

25. befahl Mose den Leviten, die die Lade des Bundes des Herrn trugen:

26. 'Take the book of this Law and put it beside the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your God. Let it lie there as evidence against you.

26. Nehmt diese Urkunde der Weisung entgegen und legt sie neben die Lade des Bundes des Herrn, eures Gottes! Dort diene sie als Zeuge gegen euch.

27. For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If today, while I am still alive and with you, you rebel against Yahweh, how much more will you rebel against him after my death!

27. Denn ich kenne deine Widersetzlichkeit und deine Halsstarrigkeit. Seht, schon jetzt, wo ich noch unter euch lebe, habt ihr euch dem Herrn widersetzt. Was wird erst nach meinem Tod geschehen?

28. 'Gather all your tribal elders and scribes round me, so that I may be sure that they hear these words, as I call heaven and earth to witness against them.

28. Versammelt um mich alle Ältesten eurer Stämme und alle eure Listenführer, damit ich ihnen diesen Text vortragen und Himmel und Erde gegen sie als Zeugen anrufen kann.

29. For I know that after my death you are certain to grow corrupt; you will leave the way which I have marked out for you; in the final days disaster will befall you for having done what is evil in Yahweh's eyes, for having provoked his anger by your behaviour.'

29. Denn ich weiß: Nach meinem Tod werdet ihr ins Verderben laufen und von dem Weg abweichen, den ich euch vorgeschrieben habe. Dann, in künftigen Tagen, wird euch die Not begegnen, weil ihr tut, was in den Augen des Herrn böse ist, und weil ihr ihn durch euer Machwerk erzürnt.

30. In the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel, Moses then recited the words of this song to the end:

30. Und Mose trug der vollzähligen Versammlung Israels den Wortlaut dieses Liedes vor, ohne irgendetwas auszulassen:
