Deutéronome, 6

1. Voici le commandement, les lois et les ordonnances que Yahweh,votre Dieu a ordonné de vous enseigner, pour que vous lesmettiez en pratique dans le pays où vous allez passer pouren prendre possession,

1. "These then are the commandments, the statutes and decrees which the LORD, your God, has ordered that you be taught to observe in the land into which you are crossing for conquest,

2. afin que tu craignes Yahweh, ton Dieu, toi, ton fils et le filsde ton fils, en observant, tous les jours de ta vie, toutes seslois et tous ses commandements que je te prescris, et afin quetes jours soient prolongés.

2. so that you and your son and your grandson may fear the LORD, your God, and keep, throughout the days of your lives, all his statutes and commandments which I enjoin on you, and thus have long life.

3. Tu les écouteras, Israël, et tu auras soin de lesmettre en pratique, afin que tu sois heureux et que vousmultipliiez beaucoup, comme te l'a dit Yahweh, le Dieu de tespères, dans un pays où coulent le lait et lemiel.

3. Hear then, Israel, and be careful to observe them, that you may grow and prosper the more, in keeping with the promise of the LORD, the God of your fathers, to give you a land flowing with milk and honey.

4. Ecoute, Israël: Yahweh, notre Dieu, est seul Yahweh.

4. "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone!

5. Tu aimeras Yahweh, ton Dieu, de tout ton coeur, de toute tonâme et de toute ta force.

5. Therefore, you shall love the LORD, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength.

6. Et ces commandements que je te donne aujourd'hui, seront danston coeur.

6. Take to heart these words which I enjoin on you today.

7. Tu les inculqueras à tes enfants, et tu en parlerasquand tu seras dans ta maison, quand tu iras en voyage, quand tute coucheras et quand tu te lèveras.

7. Drill them into your children. Speak of them at home and abroad, whether you are busy or at rest.

8. Tu les attacheras sur ta main pour te servir de signe, et ilsseront comme un frontal entre tes yeux.

8. Bind them at your wrist as a sign and let them be as a pendant on your forehead.

9. Tu les écriras sur les poteaux de ta maison et sur tesportes.

9. Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.

10. Lorsque Yahweh, ton Dieu, t'aura fait entrer dans le paysqu'il a juré à tes pères, à Abraham,à Isaac et à Jacob, de te donner: grandes et bonnesvilles que tu n'as pas bâties,

10. "When the LORD, your God, brings you into the land which he swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that he would give you, a land with fine, large cities that you did not build,

11. maisons pleines de toutes sortes de biens que tu n'as pasremplies, citernes que tu n'as pas creusées, vignes etoliviers que tu n'as pas plantés; lorsque tu mangeras ette rassasieras,

11. with houses full of goods of all sorts that you did not garner, with cisterns that you did not dig, with vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant; and when, therefore, you eat your fill,

12. garde-toi d'oublier Yahweh, qui t'a fait sortir du paysd'Egypte, de la maison de servitude.

12. take care not to forget the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.

13. Tu craindras Yahweh ton Dieu, tu le serviras et tu jureras parson nom.

13. The LORD, your God, shall you fear; him shall you serve, and by his name shall you swear.

14. Vous n'irez point après d'autres dieux, d'entre lesdieux des peuples, qui seront autour de vous.

14. You shall not follow other gods, such as those of the surrounding nations,

15. Car Yahweh, ton Dieu, qui est au milieu de toi, est un Dieujaloux; la colère de Yahweh, ton Dieu, s'enflammeraitcontre toi, et il t'exterminerait de dessus la terre.

15. lest the wrath of the LORD, your God, flare up against you and he destroy you from the face of the land; for the LORD, your God, who is in your midst, is a jealous God.

16. Vous ne tenterez point Yahweh, votre Dieu, comme vous l'aveztenté à Massah.

16. "You shall not put the LORD, your God, to the test, as you did at Massah.

17. Mais vous observerez avec soin les commandements de Yahweh,votre Dieu, ses préceptes et ses lois qu'il t'aprescrites.

17. But keep the commandments of the LORD, your God, and the ordinances and statutes he has enjoined on you.

18. Tu feras ce qui est droit et bon aux yeux de Yahweh, afin quetu sois heureux, que tu entres, pour le posséder, dans lebon pays que Yahweh a promis par serment à tespères,

18. Do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that you may, according to his word, prosper, and may enter in and possess the good land which the LORD promised on oath to your fathers,

19. lorsqu'il aura chassé tous tes ennemis devant toi commeYahweh l'a dit.

19. thrusting all your enemies out of your way.

20. Lorsque ton fils t'interrogera un jour en disant:«Qu'est-ce que ces commandements, ces lois et cesordonnances que Yahweh, notre Dieu, vous a prescrits?»

20. "Later on, when your son asks you what these ordinances, statutes and decrees mean which the LORD, our God, has enjoined on you,

21. tu diras à ton fils: «Nous étions esclavesde Pharaon, en Egypte, et Yahweh nous a fait sortir de l'Egyptepar sa main puissante.

21. you shall say to your son, 'We were once slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with his strong hand

22. Yahweh a opéré, sous nos yeux, des miracles etdes prodiges grands et terribles contre l'Egypte, contrePharaon

22. and wrought before our eyes signs and wonders, great and dire, against Egypt and against Pharaoh and his whole house.

23. et contre toute sa maison; et il nous a fait sortir delà, pour nous amener dans le pays qu'il avait promis parserment à nos pères.

23. He brought us from there to lead us into the land he promised on oath to our fathers, and to give it to us.

24. Yahweh nous a commandé de mettre en pratique toutes ceslois et de craindre Yahweh, notre Dieu, afin que nous soyonstoujours heureux et qu'il nous conserve en vie, comme il le faitaujourd'hui.

24. Therefore, the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes in fear of the LORD, our God, that we may always have as prosperous and happy a life as we have today;

25. Et ce sera pour nous la justice, si nous prenons gardeà pratiquer tous ces préceptes en présencede Yahweh, notre Dieu, comme il nous l'aordonné.»

25. and our justice before the LORD, our God, is to consist in carefully observing all these commandments he has enjoined on us.'
