23. Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.
Psalm 74 is a lament of the people of Israel for the destruction of the temple and the city of Jerusalem. In the psalm, the author calls God to intervene and restore his land and his people. The following verses are related to the topics addressed in this Psalm:
Lamentations 5:20: "Why do you forget us forever and abandon us for such a long time?" This verse is a lament similar to that of Psalm 74, in which the author questions the apparent absence of God amid the suffering of his people.
Isaiah 64:11-12: "Our holy and glorious house, where our ancestors praised you, was burned; and all we had precious was ruined. Will you control you before all this, Lord? And you will punish us even more? " These verses also express the pain and frustration of the people before the destruction of their city and the temple of God.
Jeremiah 52:13: "They burned the house of the Lord, destroyed the walls of Jerusalem, set fire to all their palaces, and destroyed all that was precious to God's people." 2 Kings 25:9: "They burned the house of the Lord, the royal palace, and all the houses of Jerusalem; they set fire to all important buildings." This verse also describes the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple for the Babylonians, and is similar to the account in Jeremiah 52:13.
Psalm 79:1: "O God, the nations invaded your inheritance; they profaned your holy temple and reduced Jerusalem to ruins." This verse is similar to Psalm 74, for it also expresses the pain of the people before the destruction of the temple and the city.
