Psalms, 56

1. To the chief Musician upon Jonathelemrechokim, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath. Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.

Psalm 118:6: "The Lord is with me, I'm not afraid; what can make me a human being?" This verse expresses the psalmist's confidence in God and his security to know that he is with him, even before his enemies.

Psalm 140:12: "I know the Lord will defend the rights of the poor and the interests of the needy." This verse speaks of the psalmist's confidence that God will defend the poor and needy, which relates to the psalmist's concern in Psalm 56 to be protected from his enemies.

Psalm 146:7: "He defends the oppressed and feeds the hungry. The Lord frees the prisoners." In this verse, the psalmist speaks of God's righteousness to defend the oppressed and free the prisoners, which relates to their search for protection and liberation in Psalm 56.
