Luke, 1

5. In the days of King Herod of Judaea there lived a priest called Zechariah who belonged to the Abijah section of the priesthood, and he had a wife, Elizabeth by name, who was a descendant of Aaron.

1 Samuel 1:11: "And made a vow, saying, Lord of hosts! " This verse presents an example of a sterile woman who prays to God for a son, just like Isabel and Ana, mother of Samuel.

Malachi 4:5: "Behold, I will send you the prophet Elijah, before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes." This verse is quoted by Jesus in talking about John the Baptist in Matthew 17:10-13, showing how the Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled with the birth of John and Jesus.
