Genesis, 15

1. And so, these things having been transacted, the word of the Lord came to Abram by a vision, saying: “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your protector, and your reward is exceedingly great.”

1. Poslije tih dogaðaja Jahve uputi Abramu rijeè u ukazanju: "Ne boj se, Abrame, ja sam ti zaštita; a nagrada tvoja bit æe vrlo velika!"

2. And Abram said: “Lord God, what will you give to me? I may go without children. And the son of the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus.”

2. Abram odgovori: "Gospodine moj, Jahve, èemu mi tvoji darovi kad ostajem bez poroda; kad je mojoj kuæi nasljednik Eliezer Damašèanin?

3. And Abram added: “Yet to me you have not given offspring. And behold, my servant born in my house will be my heir.”

3. Kako mi nisi dao potomstva - nastavi Abram - jedan æe, eto, od mojih ukuæana postati moj baštinik."

4. And immediately the word of the Lord came to him, saying: “This one will not be your heir. But he who will come from your loins, the same will you have for your heir.”

4. Ali mu Jahve opet uputi rijeè: "Taj neæe biti tvoj baštinik, nego æe ti baštinik biti tvoj potomak."

5. And he brought him outside, and he said to him, “Take in the heavens, and number the stars, if you can.” And he said to him, “So also will your offspring be.”

5. Izvede ga van i reèe: "Pogledaj na nebo i zvijezde prebroj ako ih možeš prebrojiti." A onda doda: "Toliko æe biti tvoje potomstvo."

6. Abram believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice.

6. Abram povjerova Jahvi, i on mu to uraèuna u pravednost.

7. And he said to him, “I am the Lord who led you away from Ur of the Chaldeans, so as to give you this land, and so that you would possess it.”

7. Tada mu on reèe: "Ja sam Jahve koji sam te odveo iz Ura Kaldejskoga da ti predam ovu zemlju u posjed."

8. But he said, “Lord God, in what way may I be able to know that I will possess it?”

8. A on odvrati: "Gospodine moj, Jahve, kako æu ja doznati da æu je zaposjesti?"

9. And the Lord responded by saying: “Take for me a cow of three years, and a she-goat of three years, and a ram of three years, also a turtle-dove and a pigeon.”

9. Odgovori mu: "Prinesi mi junicu od tri godine, kozu od tri godine, ovna od tri godine, jednu grlicu i jednog golubiæa."

10. Taking all these, he divided them through the middle, and placed both parts opposite one another. But the birds he did not divide.

10. Sve mu to donese, rasijeèe na pole i metnu sve pole jednu prema drugoj; ptica nije rasijecao.

11. And birds descended upon the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.

11. Ptice grabežljivice obarale se na leševe, ali ih je Abram rastjerivao.

12. And when the sun was setting, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a dread, great and dark, invaded him.

12. Kad je sunce bilo pri zalazu, dubok san obuzme Abrama, a onda se na nj spusti gust mrak pun jeze.

13. And it was said to him: “Know beforehand that your future offspring will be sojourners in a land not their own, and they will subjugate them in servitude and afflict them for four hundred years.

13. Tada Bog reèe Abramu: "Dobro znaj da æe tvoji potomci biti stranci u tuðoj zemlji; robovat æe i biti tlaèeni èetiri stotine godina,

14. Yet truly, I will judge the nation that they will serve, and after this they will depart with great substance.

14. ali narodu kojem budu služili ja æu suditi; i konaèno æe iziæi s velikim blagom.

15. But you will go to your fathers in peace and be buried at a good old age.

15. A ti æeš k ocima svojim u miru poæi, u sretnoj starosti bit æeš sahranjen.

16. But in the fourth generation, they will return here. For the iniquities of the Amorites are not yet completed, even to this present time.”

16. Oni æe se ovamo vratiti za èetvrtog naraštaja, jer mjera se zlodjela amorejskih još nije navršila."

17. Then, when the sun had set, there came a dark mist, and there appeared a smoking furnace and a lamp of fire passing between those divisions.

17. Kad je sunce zašlo i pao gust mrak, pojavi se zadimljen žeravnjak i goruæa zublja te proðu izmeðu onih dijelova.

18. On that day, God formed a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt, even to the great river Euphrates:

18. Toga je dana Jahve sklopio Savez s Abramom rekavši: "Potomstvu tvojemu dajem zemlju ovu od Rijeke u Egiptu do Velike rijeke, rijeke Eufrata:

19. the land of the Kenites and the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites

19. Kenijce, Kenižane, Kadmonce,

20. and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, likewise the Rephaim,

20. Hetite, Perižane, Refaimce,

21. and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”

21. Amorejce, Kanaance, Girgašane, Jebusejce."
