Osée, 5

1. Entendez ceci, ô prêtres; soyez attentive, maison d'Israël; maison du roi, prêtez l'oreille ; car c'est pour vous que la sentence est portée, parce que vous avez été un piège à Maspha, et un filet tendu sur le Thabor.

1. Hear this, O priests, Pay attention, O house of Israel, O household of the king, give ear! It is you who are called to judgment. For you have become a snare at Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.

13. When Ephraim saw his infirmity, and Judah his sore, Ephraim went to Assyria, and Judah sent to the great king. But he cannot heal you nor take away your sore.

14. Car je serai comme un lion pour Ephraïm, comme un jeune lion pour la maison de Juda ; moi, moi, je déchirerai et m'en irai ; j'emporterai ma proie, et nul ne me l'arrachera.

14. For I am like a lion to Ephraim, like a young lion to the house of Judah; It is I who rend the prey and depart, I carry it away and no one can save it from me.

15. Je m'en irai, je retournerai dans ma demeure, jusqu'à ce qu'ils se reconnaissent coupables, et qu'ils cherchent ma face. Dans leur détresse, ils me rechercheront,

5:1-2 - God's call to Israel's priests and leaders highlights their responsibility for the spiritual guidance of the people. Failure by these leaders to lead the people in faithfulness to God results in imminent judgment. The sin of the leadership is reflected in the behavior of the people (see also James 3:1 and Ezekiel 34:2-10).

5:3-4 - God observes that Israel's unfaithfulness is not just external, but internal, in the heart. Israel's sin is deep and can only be healed through genuine repentance and inner transformation (see also Jeremiah 17:9 and Matthew 15:19).

5:5-7 - Israel's approaching shame and destruction reflect the consequences of their turning away from God. Their pride and self-sufficiency led to their downfall, and now they face divine judgment (see also Isaiah 5:15 and Proverbs 16:18).
